Best travel insurance for a Canadian?Travel

I’m backpacking to SEA in June for 2-3 months (I do not have an exact return date yet) and I’m wondering what are some good travel insurances to look into for a Canadian. I’m planning on renting motorbikes when I’m there and doing lots of different activities (snorkling, volcano hikes, surfing, etc). Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Backpacking with degenerative disc disease or other back issues - 2 week tripWilderness

Hey All,

Not sure I need too much of a background on my trip but I am going to be going to backpack the UK, will be 2 to 3 days max at each site, get in a car and go to the next spot.

I am doing a 2 week solo trip and I am trying to see what you all recommend. My base back weight is currently around 18 pounds including tent, clothes, blanket, thermarest neo-air sleeping pad, accessories. I am checking to see if a cot is worth it, a particular sleeping pad that's worth it? I haven't tried my sleeping pad yet, but camping one night this weekend to try it out. With that, it is my only opportunity I will have before my trip so I would want to get whatever else I need beforehand.

Thanks in advance!

Best water filter to drink tap water abroad?Travel

Does anyone have a recommendation for a portable filter that will allow you to drink tap water in countries where it might otherwise be risky?

Questions on saving space: 1 month in SE Asia with a carry-on.Travel

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had tips regarding what to pack vs. what to purchase in SE asia when I have just a carrier on for space. I have spent significant time abroad (mostly Latin America) but I have never bounced from place to place. Ill be spending 2-5 day stints in Vietnam, Cambodia, thailand, and indonesia. Here are the specific questions:

Should I pack toiletrees (shampoo, etc) or just buy it everytime I get to a new location? Most the places I will be staying don't provide it. Would this get too expensive?

Towels. I really don't want to pack a towel. I know there are microfiber/quick drying versions you can get on amazon. Do I purchase one of those, or will a towel be relatively easy to find in stores in an urban area.

Clothes: What have you guys done about clothes in the past? Is it common for hostels in the region to have machines or do you use laundromats? Let me know.

My first trip. Looking for people to go.Wilderness

Hello,

Omaha, ne. I want to go wilderness backpacking but don’t want to go alone. I am in good physical shape and I have the equipment.

Destinations in USA, Canada, or USA territories?Travel

How is the best way to check what is public land and expectations and regulations Say if I prefer to not spend $1k at hotel for a week Or I could maybe find other subs to ask more aspects I could go midwest where there's some city and wooded areas proper for staying short term

Any idea about islands or places that may be ok for some brief camping? Or colder regions also, etc Northeast isn't great for much besides maybe huddle somewhere for a night, even in warmer seasons is not accessible much

Is there a bikepacking subreddit? Or for train or flight and to go on foot, etc Any places to avoid...for gun laws, animals, dangerous terrain, I mean maybe read some Guide for where is known to be safe and acceptable But not something overdone. To trek a little, but also stop into town in some cases

Choosing a backpackTravel

I’m going on a backpacking trip around SEA at the end of the year and I need to choose a good backpack.

I want something I can take as a carry on so I’m looking at a 40L one. Just wondering if this will be big enough?

I also noticed most backpacks come in mens and womens. Can someone tell me what the difference is and if any women have purchased a mens bacpack did you have any issues?

Thank you!!

Should I re-waterproof my tent footprint? Wilderness

I have a EMS brand tent that comes with its own footprint. I just used Nikwax spray to re-waterproof the tent (floor, sides and fly). Should I do the same for the footprint? If so, which side should I spray or should I use a wash in product?

Or is the footprint more for physical protection from abrasion than water?

For context, I am taking the tent to Iceland for a multi day backpacking, expecting rain and wind.

Can you “backwash” a sawyer filter with a bit of air to try and dry it out a little bit to help prevent freezing or is that going to ruin itWilderness

Also I sucked from the other end then the propped end and got a bit more liquid out that way, would that ruin it, I want to maintain my filter as best as possible. Also will it dry out a little on its own

Looking for Travel YouTube ChannelsTravel

Do you have any advice on some good travel Youtube Channels? Both for getting inspiration for new destinations or planning / knowing what to expect on a trip you've booked? I usually read some blogs but I'd prefer videos but all I can find is cinematic stuff that doesn't really tell much about a place

Strugling to wear my backpack "correctly" while also being comfortableTravel

As the title says, whenever I wear my pack the "correct" way, I end up with bad shoulder and neck pain. The thing that I've been doing "incorrectly" is leaving a slight gap between my shoulders and my shoulder straps. Now, the gap isn't terrible, but I truely can't do anything lower than this. I've watched numerous youtube videos saying that there should be no gap, and even a lot of my firends that backpack with me do just fine with no shoulder gap. For context, I was born with relatively bad shoulders, and I have dislocated my left shoulder in the past, which contributes. However, I'm pretty young, so I'm assuming it has mostly to do with an improper fitting. What could I be doing wrong here? Also, what are the downsides of wearing my pack like this?
