[BST] May 2024 Buy, Sell, Trade Thread.

Welcome to the monthly r/flashlight Buy, Sell, Trade thread, a r/flashlight tradition since 2015!

The Rules
Requirements
  1. Prove possession with a timestamp: a piece of paper placed under your sale item(s) with your Reddit username handwritten and the posting date (no more than 2 weeks old).
  2. Top-level comments must be WTS or WTB comments. Anything else will be removed. Begin your top-level comment with WTB (Want to Buy), WTS (Want to Sell), or WTT (Want to Trade). Remember, trade items require timestamps, too!
  3. A price is required.
  4. Take necessary precautions; trading over the Internet is risky. Moderators hold no control over deals, good or bad.
  5. Reposting WTS or WTB items from previous BSTs is fine. Do not repost within the same month!
  6. Mark items sold with a strikethrough of the entire sale item; e.g. $75 Use double tildes to accomplish this: ~~75~~ (This helps greatly with scanning the BST to find items for purchase!)
Suggestions
  • Your location
  • Emitter details
  • A bunch of photos of your items
Reminder: Buy the Seller

If an interaction seems sketchy to you, run away! Scams can and do happen through the BST! Some tips:

  • Timestamps. If the person you're dealing with isn't quick to provide timestamps on the images, or a photo of the flashlight in a shoe or whatever, don't deal with them.
  • Reverse image searching is a great way to catch scammers.
  • Excuses for not sending photos are a red flag.
  • Using a platform other than Reddit's private messages for communication is a red flag.
  • Don't use Reddit chats. Chats can be deleted!
  • Giving you a hard time about any hesitation you show is a red flag.
  • Check post history. Brand new accounts or accounts with long pauses in activity, etc., might not be trustworthy.
  • It's good practice to comment on this post before sending a PM; scammers often won't comment publicly (and banned users can't comment here.)

If you're dealing with someone who might be sketchy, take screenshots of your interactions and report them to the mods! We care about this thread's integrity and will ban those threatening it.

Do not let a scammer be more diligent than you!
More Tips
  • PirateShip is a great shipping option. https://ship.pirateship.com/ship/single
  • "Shipping included" items tend to sell more quickly.
  • USPS Priority Flat Rate at ~$8 is adequate packing for a light or two or ~$14 for many more. Weight is not a factor when you use the official Flat Rate packing, and the packaging is free through the USPS website.
  • There are a few options for trading outside of this current BST:

PSA for flashlight fans in germany - Do not buy weapon lightsDiscussion

Most of you already know about this, BUT:
So, no matter how old you are and how much you know, you never stop learning. You can even forget things you used to know, imagine that xD

In case you are not aware: It is illegal in germany to purchase, import, or own a flashlight (or laser) which is specifically designed to be mounted to a firearm.
Example in this case: The Sofirn PL09. Even if you do not own any gun, not even an airsoft gun, it is illegal for you to import or own this light. Even if you just wanted this to mount it to a workbench.

I have checked back with my local police and my lawyer today and they confirmed this.

Below are the two original law texts in german. They basically describe the function and form of the illegal item.
https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/waffg_2002/anlage_1.htmlSee section 4.1
https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/waffg_2002/anlage_2.htmlSee section 1.2.4.
There is another one that ties all this together, but I cant find it...and it doesnt matter.

I actually knew about this from a long time ago, but I forgot. So let this be a reminder or a general PSA for everyone in germany....and all other countries for that matter.
Check your local laws if you want to buy something like this. Excuse my poor english, its 4 AM, its been a very long day and Im tired xD

Need headlamp suggestions

Hi folks, I found this sub and thought "hey, these guys will know what they're talking about". I am a general contractor and I'm frequently in attics and crawlspaces. I've had random headlamps in the past but their light has been anemic at best. I picked up a little wurkkos wk03 light and it works great but I'm carrying it around in my teeth. Any suggestions for something al least as bright, in a headlamp configuration though? I don't care about runtime or weight. Max it's going to be on is a couple hours. Thoughts?

Oveready Customer Service

Hey all. I've been a longtime lurker on this sub. I don't really post on Reddit, but I've had a terrible experience with Oveready customer service, and figured I'd post my experience.

5 years ago I purchased my first Oveready Boss Light in titanium. It arrived defective and customer service was quick to help exchange the emitter for a functioning unit. I enjoyed the light so much that over the last 5 years I've purchased a second BOSS in aluminum, two scout heads / emitters, and loads of parts. For my budget, this has been an insane amount of money spent on flashlights, but I justified it with the fact that they were ultra high quality, made in the USA by a small company I would want to support.

7 months ago, I was changing the clip on my Ti Boss, and the screw head sheared clean off. The body of the screw was stuck inside the light, making it impossible to remove. I'm very careful when I do maintenance on my gear, so I'm nearly positive I didn't over-torque the screw. Regardless, I was the one doing the work so I take full responsibility for the results. I reached out to Oveready via email, explaining the situation, and asking if there was any chance they could help. They said they'd be happy to take a look at it, so I sent it off to them.

After two months, I hadn't heard anything. So I reached out asking if they had ever received my light and had a chance to evaluate it. No response.

A month later I reached out again asking the same question. No response.

Two months later I reached out again. This was 6 months from the time I sent out the light. I was genuinely worried USPS had lost my light, despite the tracking info indicating it had been delivered.

I received no response, so I posted on r/controlthedark explaining the situation. Almost immediately I received an email from Oveready stating they thought they had taken care of this and they had missed my previous emails. They said they had my light, it was fixed, and they were sending it back. They gave me a tracking number.

I watched the tracking number and USPS continued to indicate they had not been given the package. After two weeks I reached out to Oveready, asking if they were going to send the light. No response.

A week later I emailed again, asking if they could update me on the status of my light, as USPS still didn't have the package. No response.

That was a week ago. I sent another email this morning asking if they would be sending the light out anytime soon. It's been a month since they provided me with a tracking number. 7 months since I sent them my light.

I understand Oveready is a small company, with limited time and manpower. But I don't think that justifies the customer service experience I've been through. I've dealt with many small, family run businesses that have absolutely incredible customer service. I know Oveready has had a reputation for having great customer service in the past, but that hasn't been my experience. I've sent them emails in the past 5 years that I never received responses to, but I didn't care, as they were not critical questions.

I'm incredibly grateful that Oveready wanted to help fix my light, despite the fact that I'm the one that screwed it up. They were not obligated to help, and I recognize that. Despite this, once they took possession of my light, it was on them to get it back to me, whether they were able to fix it or not. This experience has made me question how much trust I have in their customer service. If my light breaks in the future, it may never get fixed, or if it does, it may be a year before it's returned.

TL;DR: Oveready has had my light for 7 months and doesn't respond to my emails.

Am I in the wrong here? Am I expecting too much from Oveready's communication? Has anyone else experienced lack of communication from Oveready, or is this just a fluke?

Fist mod: Manker E05 II emitter, driver and tailswitch swapUpdated

This is my first mod. Donor is a Manker E05 II Titanium. The original led was CW, it features a forward switch (which I hate) and a simple driver with 3 light modes: low-medium-high. Low is far too bright to be considered Moonlight.

New components are FFL351A 5000K as emitter, a Convoy reverse switch, and convoy 17mm 3V 5A buck driver with 12 groups.

The first problem was to unscrew the glued tailcap, as it had a ton of glue and ended scratching the body. Damn it, Manker, stop gluing your shit together! Had to use heat gun to soften the glue.

After that, I removed the pill with driver and MCPCB and desoldered it. The second problem was that the driver was 17mm diameter (it's the smaller driver available at convoy store) while the pill is 15.8mm, so I had to trim down both the outer diameter of the driver PCB and the inner of the pill to make the driver fit.

Next step was to reflow the new emitter. I'm not very prowd of how the reflow ended, but since I don't have a thermal plate, I had to use the heat gun. It's my first reflow ever, so I chose to call it a day.

Finally, applied thermal paste (artic MX-4), soldered the MCPCB, and swapped the switch. Since the reverse switch is 1-2mm shorter than the original one, I had to glue a small piece of PCB to avoid the switch being too mushy.

And that's it. The spot seems perfect, it's very throat, and now I have a high CRI neutral beam, with a multimode driver and reverse switch.

[Help] Need some solid recommendations for first flashlight

Hi, I'm looking for some solid flashlights and I came across this page that has a lot of educated users.

I have just purchased the LedLenser MT14 and after browsing some posts here, I realised that maybe I've made the wrong choice and that better options exist. I bought this because the battery life looked incredible compared to their more expensive models, and I don't want to worry about carrying spare batteries everywhere. In comparison, the P7R Signature has an awful battery life at only 2 hours on max and is much more expensive.

I'm looking for two flashlights.

  • Hiking/outdoors that I'll travel with so it needs to be somewhat light and robust. Should easily fit in a backpack but still pack enough power and have insane battery life.
  • A powerful flashlight for home/night purposes, more powerful than the above and can be a bit heavier

Ideally, all should have the following properties

  • Great battery life
  • Very bright with multiple settings
  • Long distance beam
  • Durable build quality and good warranty

Price is not an issue, but would still like some good deals and to not overspend.

Thank you for any recommendations.

Convoy L7 extension tube for 26800 batteriesQuestion

I bought a L7. I also bought the extenders to use 26800 batteries. But I can’t make them work.

The batteries work in other flashlights, including my M26D .And the flashlight works with the 26550s that were shipped with it.

I’m using the button disks between the batteries and in between the top battery and the head, same as with the 26550s.

It’s almost like they’re just isn’t electrical connection being made from the tail switch through the extenders and the body.

Anybody else deal with this?

Q8 Plus - is there a stepped ramp level that will sustain without throttling?Discussion

In stepped mode, is there a particular ramp level that will sustain while out hiking without thermal throttling? Assume 90% humidity and 25°C weather

Help meRecommendation

I just recently got a job as a maintenance tech and I need a small edc light that I can use sometimes all day that won’t die. I would like something under $50, easily pocketable, rechargeable, and at least 500 lumens.
