This is the second time I've heard of dorcy today. How weird. Esp considering I haven't heard of it until today
Dorcy is sort of the cheap flashlights they sell at the grocery store, sort of like rayovac or energizer. I’ve bought several but they’d die after a couple months of sitting in a drawer and then they’d leak. I actually found 2 of my old flashlights this weekend in my junk drawer, covered in old acid One of those lights is an ultra fire from like 2010 lol
I figured that out. And that's why I stay far away from alkaleaks :D
Word My mom asked the other day why I’d collect flashlights and why spend any kind of money on them.. I showed her why when I pulled that out of the drawer. Never there when you need them.
these ones look even older! and they use regular AA and C cells respectively. no worries about leaks! (provided they are stored without the batts installed, which these ones were.) the bulbs are dim incandescents though. maybe a candidate for LED replacements..?
Can't imagine why you'd convert these. LED PR base bulbs are generally not great. I've put them in some very old lights, but almost any $5 throw away LED light will perform better. Besides, have you priced c/d batteries lately?
So maybe lithium batts and $5 leds? LOL Sorry if i sound ignorant, ive never modded a flashlight before. These ones basically found me
By all means, experiment away! I'm just putting it out there that you may be disappointed with the results, and then you've put money into some very cheap, borderline disposable, flashlights. Jmho
hey, they're my flashlights and thats what really matters!
They make a lot of flashlights and license the former Sears DieHard brand for their line of disposable and rechargeable small consumer batteries. They also make LifeGear. Even if you don't think you own one of their flashlights, brands like Rayovac sell branded versions of white label Dorcy flashlights. Wal-Mart is a very common place to acquire either.
Suggestive XL lol
Nice find.
Why is this a Reddit post?
Cause its about a flashlight and this is a subreddit about flashlights :3
This isn't r/sinkpissers, it's r/flashlight, so unless posts about flashlights are now prohibited in the sub, that's why.
Why is that a thing. Just why.
The sub, as I understand it, is a joke. But, like every other thing, there are people for whom that thing is an actual interest. Add the Reddit strike, some mentions from prominent YouTube creators discussing the hilarity of what subs were still active, a subreddit without moderators to participate in the strike, and now it's the household name no one asked for.
Oh god, the perfect storm gave birth to a writhing pile with a well placed lightning strike... why do humans do this? Why are we like this!?!?
I just want to return to møth.
If it weren't for the fact that content on the internet is what keeps me sane during the hours of driving I do in between bouts of fixing everyone's everything at varying places in my state, I'd say burn it all.
That sub is both disturbing and hilarious, I ain’t even mad at the downvotes now lmao
Lol I'm glad I turned it into a positive experience. I was over on the USPS sub, where someone posted one of the antique sinks that looks like a birdbath/fountain and a number of different people can step on the little pedal to get water. (Edit: These are common in 1930s and 1940s large federal buildings) The aforementioned sub was brought up repeatedly, and ever since the Reddit strike where it was one of the only subs still active, it is one of those mildly disturbing subs that's a riot to peruse. It got a LOT of followers thanks to Mutahar of SomeOrdinaryGamers discussing it repeatedly during said strike. 🤣
Tl;dr: You're welcome, glad you enjoyed.
I found the blue one at a thrift store in the same city i originally found that green flashlight. Apparently the brand is “dorcy.”
