Cute Restaurants, Coffee Shops or Shops in Joshua Tree

Hello! I'm planning a girls trip to Joshua Tree in June and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on places to go for brunch, lunch or dinner. If they are cute places, even better. Also, looking for any little shops or anything of interesting like that. We have an airbnb and will likely spend most of our time there, but hoping to find something to do on our first day before check in.

Trailheads parking

If I have a park permit and want to check out some trails, can you just park on park boulevard near the trailhead? I know it’s hot.

Night photography in JTNP - Rattlesnake safety tips (Late May)

I'm going to be headed to Joshua Tree next week to shoot under the full moon, and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts/ tips about rattlesnake safety.

This is something I do fairly frequently in other places (where rattlers aren't an issue) so I'm comfortable with being out in nature at night, and take all the needed safety precautions (Sat. SOS transponder among other things). I'm also very familiar with JT, taking multiple trips to the park a year (usually winter or late summer/fall)

BUT, this happens to be my first time in May shooting at night. I've read that not only is this rattlesnakes most active time of year, but also that they tend to be nocturnal as well.

I'm going to be in the Northwestern part of the park between Quail Springs and Hidden Valley.

Should I be especially worried about the snakes, or will this be similar to any other time of year? (minus winter) any tips/best practices are appreciated!

Travelling from LV to 29 Palms at night

Hello,

I'm excited to be joining this group and looking forward to my upcoming trip from Las Vegas to Joshua Tree National Park. I'll be arriving in Las Vegas around 8 PM and anticipate departing around 9 PM through rental car, aiming to reach my destination by approximately 1 AM.

I've planned my route via Cal-Nev-Ari using US 95S. However, as I'll be driving during the night, I want to ensure that the journey is safe and understand what to expect along the way. Any insights or advice on the safety and conditions of this route during nighttime would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for any guidance you can provide.

Barker dam this week?

Hello all,

About to go hiking at Joshua Tree. Last time I went Barker’s Dam was completely dry. Any chance the Dam is full this week? How’s it looking?

Thanks!

Just ran into a massive rattlesnake on the maze loop while trail running

Today was my first day solo trail running in Joshua Tree. It's my first time visiting the park. I was running the maze loop clockwise. Towards the end of the loop, at the longer flatter section, out of the blue I heard the signiture maraca sound. It was surprisingly loud and sudden. I didn't even have time to really react, I turned around as I continued running away from the sound and I saw this massive snake coiling up. It happened around 3:30 pm.

How common is it to run into rattlers at the park on trails?

Alternative to Mojave WiFi

I live in Flamingo Heights next to Giant Rock Meeting room and at the time Mojave WiFi was the only ISP serving the area. Thing is, it’s just so expensive. It’s been reliable, but we’re spending $130/month.

Does anyone know of cheaper, reliable alternatives that service the Flamingo Heights neighborhood?

Should I come in August?

TL;DR I want to come to JT with my girlfriend in August. I know it gets ridiculously hot but we weren't going to hike or do any exhaustive activities, just relax and swim and if anything explore early in the morning. I've seen people's thoughts about coming to JT in August but it's mixed -- looking for some more input.

I was trying to plan a trip to JT for me and my girlfriend. She is finishing up with school in early August and my plan was to book an Airbnb with a pool and AC for a few days. I have been reading up on people's travel warnings during this month but the plan wasn't to hike or be outdoors. I just wanted to take her to a place so we can both relax and be as lazy as possible (i.e., be in the pool, lay in the shade, enjoy the AC, eat, and drink) I wouldn't see us doing much during the day and would probably stay far away from any hiking during the day. I haven't booked anything yet, I'm just looking for some more opinions before I do so

Has anyone been to a place called La Casa Del Oro resort in Borrego Springs?

Thinking of spending a few days there on a little vacation but never travelled that far south of JT.

Northern Lights
