What are the “ketchup and mustard” condiment pairings of your country?Food

Doesn’t necessarily have to be paired together on a meal just that they tend to appear alongside one another

How good is social mobility in your country? Are there any reliable social lifts left?Work

For example, if someone is born into a struggling family of manual laborers (or a discriminated minority), but is smart and ambitious, how easy is it for them to get a good education and become someone important?

And speaking of social lifts, are there any that work better than trying to get a white-collar job if you're someone from a family of nobodies? For example, joining the army to become a general, or joining a trade union to become its head, or becoming a priest to become a bishop?

How popular are "spotted" accounts in your country?Culture

For those unfamiliar, there are profiles on Instagram and Facebook called something like "(city name)_spotted" where people anonymously post either descriptions of people they saw in public, or pictures they secretly took of them, in order to find out their social media without asking in person. It's quite popular here in Croatia, though primarily with high schoolers.

In countries where bicycle travel is more common is there a lot of bike thievesTravel

I'm in a big US city. I use a bike to get to work. Luckily I can keep it inside. I'm scared to bring it more places like grocery stores pharmacy ECT because bike thieves are common. In your country is there any level of courtesy? More bike security? Here bike racks are rare and cheap crap. Even if you have a good lock the rack can be broken into easily

What is your country’s most annoying/irritating song?Culture

In America and the rest of the Anglosphere for that matter, we have a few songs that have a reputation for being really annoying or irritating. Either because they are badly written, or have really whiny or unpleasant tones or other cheesy licks that manage to get in our heads, etc. Many people genuinely hate the music when they hear it, but some of it is also a little irony. And the music doesn’t necessarily have to be badly written or be rated poorly by critics. But it would be well known and agreed by many people that the music is infamous for being annoying.

Songs that come to mind for example back home would be “Who Let the Dogs Out?”, “Barbie Girl” by Aqua, “I’m Blue (Da Ba Dee)”, etc.

I understand that YMMV when it comes to music and what is annoying to someone may be really enjoyable to someone else. I think my goal here is to ask if there is music or songs in your culture that many or most people say is considered “annoying.”

What is considered to be Europe’s best train ride? Travel

Figured I asked because my family and I will be traveling by train across Ireland next week from Dublin to Limerick and to Galway and back and I’m super excited. But I’m curious to know which train ride people would say is Europe’s most scenic railway ride and why?

What are small phrases in French/German that I should use during my trip?Language

I’m having a trip in ten days to both Germany, France and England, and I completely forgot to learn some basic French and German phrases in order to seem less awkward. I know I’ll have a heavy accent since I know little to nothing about the languages, but it’s better than nothing.

For the record, this trip was for handpicked AP students, and I was chosen even if I didn’t know anything about French or German, we will have a guide so I won’t have to do much talking but it’s better to get some phrases learned just in case.

Are tourists a big problem in your area?Travel

I'm curious. I work in an extremely tourist facing job (Francophone tour guide for the Guinness brewery) and as a result have probably met every single nationality in the history of the human race (a few Elamites or Sumerians probably!). Now, I'm biased obviously because my livelihood depends on tourists, but I don't find them too annoying though plenty of Irish people and especially Dubliners will certainly disagree with me, usually citing Spanish students. How is it in your respective country?

What is ratio between student pay in fast food industry and prices of fast food Food

In Serbia, it's usually 2-3,5€ (most usually 2,5-3€ (300-350rsd)) and you have to work 2-3 hours for a meal. For example, KFC pays 3€, one person bucket (5 strips and mini (micro?) fries) costs 5€, Zinger menu is 7€ and similar

How was the airport experience in Europe before September 11 2001?History

I was born in Prague in the 90's, so it's difficult for me to remeber the pre-terrorist scare days. Is it true that there were no security checkpoints at all and that it was possible for airport visitors to accompany their loved ones all the way to the gate? Was it possible to take an intra-Schengen flight with only a paper ticket without producing an ID or passport of any kind?

Does your country use jury trials? If not, would you want them?Misc

The Netherlands doesn't use jury trials, and I'm quite glad we don't. From what I've seen I think our judges are able to make fair calls, and I wouldn't soon trust ten possibly biased laypeople to do so as well

How sustainable is pension system in your country?Politics

Hi all!

As a young man living in Slovakia all I hear about is that by the time I get old there won't be any reasonable pensions in my country because the whole system would fail. So I'm just wondering.. What is the situation in your country?

Of the languages you know, what is the grade (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, Native Language) you have with each of them, and which ones do you want to improve?Language

Native English speaker here, and I am an A2, or maybe an A1, in French, especially when I am reading it as opposed to speaking or writing in it, know a few phrases in German and really basic ideas about German, but certainly not even A1. I guess that technically also makes me qualified to read a small amount of Luxembourgish given it is so similar to Plattdeutsch and French, but no grade level can be assigned to that knowledge. I am hoping to get better at French in the next few years.

How “stupid” is it to visit Russia now?Travel

I want to travel to all countries of Europe and Russia is one of them. Although I don’t support the politics, I think it’s a beautiful country.

Do you guys think it’s going to cause me problems later while traveling to other EU countries?

I have a Serbian passport btw.

I would like you to tell me which is the least popular sport that exists in your country in terms of fans or general viewership ?

Are there any online banks EU citizens/residents can open an account at, which can be used without their smartphone app?Personal

I have an account on two online banks, but they both require that I use their smartphone app, which is not compatible with my phone.

I'm looking for a bank which I can use through my computer.

I'm happy to use email, SMS, OTP or other similar mechanisms to authenticate, if necessary, but not their app limited only to some versions of Android/iOS.

EDIT: I live in Germany. I thought I would be able to open an account in any EU bank, but after reading the answers I'm guessing that's wrong?
