Who has done a long-distance hike with your dog? Lessons learned?

I've done a couple of 1-2 weeks hikes with my dog and tent. Now I plan on doing the GR11 with him, a 900km trail across the Pyrenees in Europe.

Welcoming tips and lessons learned on doing longer hikes with your furry friend :)
I'll also share mine as I go.

1st backpacking trip in Eagle's Nest Wilderness Colorado

Hi all, I'm doing my first backpacking trip in August with my 2 border collies. We're no strangers to hiking and camping in Colorado, but we just want to venture out a little more. I'm looking for recommendations on gear or trails if you've been there before. I posted the same thing in one of the Colorado subs and got nothing but rudeness and people saying I should leave my dogs home. I'm hoping you guys can help.

Inflatable Pad?

I day hike with my dog all the time, and want to start taking her on overnight trips. My concern though is with an inflatable pad. Has anyone had issues with dogs nails puncturing or tearing your inflatable pads? tia

Cookware

What’s the best lightweight cookware for campfire cooking? 3-7 day travel don’t want to have to carry canisters to cook on.

Replacement Harness for ruffwear palisades pack

Does anyone know of a good replacement harness for the ruffwear palisades pack. I was able to find the saddlebags for $20 but unfortunately it was missing the harness. It doesn’t seem that sell that part separately which really sucks. Thanks.

100 Pound Dog Backpack

Hi,

I’m looking for a backpack that can carry a 100 pound dog or a stroller that can be used on trails?

Thanks!

SMD lunar solo vs. durston xmid 1/2 for 1person + dog

I’m adding to all the 1p vs. 2p tent discussions, but I’m not finding a great answer for my situation. I’m 5’5 and want a tent that’s light enough for solo trips, but has enough space for my dog (45 lb cattle dog mix) to occasionally join me. I like the double wall but am really tempted by the weight savings of the SMD.

Im considering:

SMD lunar solo

Durston xmid 1

Durston xmid 2

Couple points: -I saw one comment from Dan Durston that he thought a dog would fit in a xmid 1 if you were shorter than 5’6. Has anyone done this?

-I saw some vids of the SMD lunar solo and the wall on the triangle looks to angle pretty sharply. Does it actually have enough room for a dog? Or even gear?

Other considerations - I’m in Texas, mostly camping here or in Oklahoma/Arkansas, but I have a trip planned to the superior trail this summer. Also I can’t put my dog in the vestibule - she is a super Velcro cuddler and is not to be trusted when left to her own devices.

I also was eyeing the Tarptent stratospire - it seems heavy for a 1p tent, but I like that it can fit two sleeping pads if you need it to.

Clip-on bowl recommendations?

Hello! Hopefully this sub is the right place for this question. Does anyone have any recommendations for a brand that makes a silicon collapsible dog bowl that clips on/uses a carabiner/etc that won't just rip if you actually USE it like its designed? I like this kind of bowl because they're easy to clean and I like being able to clip it onto my dog's harness or my backpack if its wet. But every one that I've bought has the little hole part where the clip or carabiner goes rip in half, so the clip or carabiner can't stay there anymore. I've tried what feels like a thousand of these bad boys, they rip so quickly! Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks in advance!

Question: Cold Weather Camping & Senior Pup

Hello, just found this subreddit and it seems the best place to ask! I have an almost 13yo poodle terrier named Pan. He's my old man but has plenty of spunk and mischief left in him, and he's still going strong. He's never been camping and I was considering taking him for one night tonight (my fiance has a campsite with his siblings in Joshua Tree right now and I'm not far, just stayed home for work). Honestly not sure how much he'll like it but that's why I figured one night is a good trial to see if he'd like future trips or if it's not his thing.

Since he's older his hair is very thin. The temperature tonight in Joshua Tree is going to be an expected low of 36 degrees F. He has sweaters and jackets and if y'all think he would be okay to go with certain supplies, I'd make a trip to the pet store before taking him. My question: do y'all think there are any supplies that would help and make the trip comfortable for him, so it would be safe? Or is that weather too cold in general no matter what supplies I bring/get? I'm not willing to risk his safety for the night and so am really debating whether to go or not. It just snowed in Joshua Tree last night and was colder, but weather is supposed to be getting better over the day. I'd at minimum bring his warmest sweater/jacket, some blankets for him, and one of his beds. He'd sleep in the tent with my fiance and I at night and would hang out with us by the fire before bed (on leash). Basically I'd love for him to experience camping but if it isn't the right trip for him I don't want to go, but I don't know if I'm being over paranoid!

Thanks if you read all that and I'm happy to answer any questions. My boy is my little baby and I'm just trying to give him some adventure while being safe.

Best pack for my dog

I'm looking online and didn't know where to start. Would love any recommendations you have, thank you.
