According to altitudecontrol.com, the three stages of acclimatization to high altitude are preparation, ascent, and descent. Preparation: Spend your first night at a lower altitude. For example, Aspen Valley Hospital recommends staying in Denver, which is about 3,000 feet lower than Aspen, for your first night.

The day before, go up to altitude and hike around for several hours. Go back down and sleep at a lower altitude. Drink lots of water.

I feel your pain. It’s hard to meet people in LA. Volunteering is one good way to meet people. There are great meet up groups for a variety of interests. Also, if you like to hike/camp or are interested in learning the Sierra Club (Angeles Chapter) had a Wilderness Travel Course that is a great way to meet people and learn how to backpack.

I agree w the above. Just be. Also you may be too ultralight to do this but I am wondering if journaling on the trail would help. It pulls you back into yourself and also might get the negative thoughts to take a hike.

Thank you for this great explanation. I was pretty sure standard backpacking filtration/purification systems would not eliminate chemical contamination but this was a fantastic and informative explanation

Have your insurance company pay so you get the care you need. You can sue your employer for the cost of your medical expenses (typically even if paid by insurance -although you might need to pay back $ to the insurance company), pain and suffering, wage loss for any time spent off work. And report your employer. WC insurance protects the employer too from being sued out the kazoo by employees injured on the job. So sue them. Your insurance company also might be interested in suing them to recover medical expenses paid. A contingency plaintiff’s attny may be interested.

You will be ready! Sleeping at altitude is no longer recommended for acclimatization and in fact is believed to contribute to altitude sickness because your breath while sleeping is more shallow hence less oxygenation. See how you do on Mt Baldy and the other higher peaks in the Southland. If you are struggling then u know u will have an issue on Whitney. I finally broke down and used Diamox. It had me running up Baldy when before it was a struggle. Good luck.

Why isn’t there a constructive parking easement since people have been parking on the easement for over 40 years? This seems to be a very different situation than rocks recently put up by the neighbor. Doesn’t usage over time w/o modify the existing easement to now allow parking?

Mob figures. They all say in court staring down Cohen. Apparently that happens in mob trials
