Leave No Trace Social Media Guidelines & the Adirondacks

How do you think we can use social media as a tool to help, not hurt, our public lands?

I wrote a blog post on this topic, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Early morning ride options

Does anyone have any information they can share on how to arrange a ride from Roostercomb to the Loj? There would be 3 of us and I would love a lift early in the morning. I’m sifting through old posts here and there and trying to get a list of names to contact. I appreciate any help!

Cranberry 50 first timer

Came from Colorado as an avid hiker and camper. I was the queen of finding the most remote back country home bases where I could park my Jeep. But, after trying it out last summer, I’m ready for a backpacking trip to explore new parts with minimal people.

I’m hoping to spread the trip out to three days to not rush the first week of June. Any tips on camping, water, any extra supplies?

Any tips would be helpful! I thought this would be a great trail to start on and get lost in nature!

Trailhead Shuttle

Hey All! I'm looking to do a point-to-point hike this June in the Adirondacks, and I'm looking for a good shuttle from the Marble Mountain TH (near Whiteface) to the Seward Mountain Trailhead some time around June 16th/17th. I'll be leaving my car at Marble and walking back to it. If anyone knows of a shuttle service that can do this, or if there's a reliable way to just call a taxi service from Marble/Wilmington, please let me know!

Hotels and town to stay in?

So I'm thinking of taking my wife down to the Adirondacks. We plan to stay in either Saranac Lake or Lake Placid. No matter which one we stay in we will travel over to the other for the day. The visit will only be for the weekend. Leave on a Friday, arrive there that afternoon. Leave on Monday morning.

  1. Which one do you recommend out of the two towns?

  2. Can you recommend two hotels that you think would be good ( one in either town)

Thanks kindly

Bear cans required for silver lake wilderness?

Was going to go with an ursack/rope on Monday but I forgot they were required up at high peaks. Wondering if they’re required park wide or only at high peaks?

Places to camp near top of mountain for short sunset/sunset hike?

Hey, I'm coming to the Adirondacks soon. I'm looking for suggestions for places to camp near the top of a mountain. I'm looking for this because I'm looking to do a sunrise/sunset hike and I don't want to have to wake up super early for a sunrise or hike in the dark too late after a sunset.

Few things I'm looking for:
- Ability to camp near the peak

  • 360 view (or at least a sunset/sunrise view)

  • Lake view at top (nice to have not mandatory)

Few things I don't mind:
- Does not have to be the tallest peak. (I personally also enjoy when the mountains I'm looking at also appear very big which I think gets lost when at the tallest peaks like Marcy and Algonquin.)

  • Does not have to be a High Peak (can be)

  • I don't mind a long hike if necessary. I'm splitting it in two days anyways

Through my research, I've found a few names but I'm not sure how they fit into my criteria.

I've found:
- Lean to near Lake George
- Pharoah Mountain
- Sno-bird (with mixed opinion on whether it's a legal site)
- Slant Rock (unsure with how close to the peaks this one is)

I'm open to other suggestions too. Thanks!

Paddleboarding/Kayaking to trails

Im going to the Adirondacks at the end of next month and im wondering if it is normal and ok to paddleboard or kayak to trails at Lake George, leave them and go for a quick hike? My ideas were paddleing to around the shore of Shelving Rock Mountain and then connecting to the trail and hike up or paddle to montcalm point area and hike up to first peak. Looking around I havint seen enough information on this and I want to make sure im not violating any rules or my stuff wont likely be stolen ect.

Lake placid bachelorette

I’m looking to find a company that does boating rentals and none of the girls have to drive. 8 girls, late June, going for more of a booze cruise vibe than tour of the asks. Any suggestions?

Obviously not mirror lake, but lake placid/saranac or other nearby lakes are all fair game

Corey’s Road gate/Seymour range conditions?

Does anyone know if the gate to Corey’s Road is open yet? Anyone hiked out there recently and know how the snow situation is?

Saranac or Tupper Lake trivia?

hey guys!! does anyone know of any restaurants or bars that do weekly trivia nights in the Saranac Lake or Tupper Lake areas?

we’re going to miss the May 22 trivia at Hotel Saranac & it looks like Raquette River Breweing only does trivia through the 22nd as well, so we’re looking for another spot

thanks so much!!
