Looking for Terlingua Locals

We're Texans, live in Howard County. I moved here from Houston and had the privilege of a couple patients out in Terlingua who became the loves of my life ❤️ since then, about 5 years ago, it's been my dream to live out in the Terlingua area so I could serve as many locals as possible because I just adore the people. So we recently bought 40 acres in Brewster Co.not far from town. R/Terlingua doesn't seem to be active, I'm wondering if there's another board I'm missing I can join ? We have to get water etc etc set up so it'll be a couple years before we're living on our land full time but In the meanwhile I still want to get to know the neighbors. Tia for any info anyone might have!

Langford Hot Springs

Planning a visit. Is there enough riverflow right now to sustain the hot springs? Is it worth visiting right now?

River Road/Mariscal Canyon

This will be my fourth trip to Big Bend so I have a pretty good lay of the land. However have never been down River Road from Rio Grand village. (We will be going in late February next year). My sister and I plan on leaving early from Rio Grand Campground, driving down River Road and camping 2 nights near Mariscal Canyon or Cross Canyon as well as hiking. I know we need permits for the primitive sites but if anyone has been down that way before would love your input on road conditions, preferable camp sites down there, or any tips for us. Thanks!

Staying at Chisos Mountain Lodge

Hello, we'll be staying at the Chisos Mountain Lodge for a few nights on May 24th.

It's the first time I'll stay inside the park (all my previous visits we stayed nearby).

Any recommendations on what to do early/late in the park? I know those particular nights won't be good for stargazing since it's going to be a full moon but was planning on doing some moonlight hiking.

Evening / night hiking?

My visit to Big Bend is coming up and I'm seeing that the temperature is very high for hiking during the afternoon. We'll give some of the shorter hikes (less than a couple of hours) a try during those hours, but for the Rim hikes and anything longer, we're thinking of starting in the late afternoon and ending in the evening. We'll still bring appropriate amounts of water and flashlight gear.

Are evening hikes that end around 9pm (sunset times) encouraged or a bad idea? The alternative would be starting around 5-6am and trying to finish before early or mid afternoon, although we're targeting sky parties and trying to get some sleep.

Of all the primitive roads, which is the most passable?

Looking for views and remoteness. Not Black Gap. Would have 4WD and high clearance vehicle.

Searching for a location off of the Maxwell Scenic Drive.

I found this image on an Instagram post and the only information they shared was that it was along the Maxwell Scenic Drive. Does anyone have any information on this location? I'm looking for a name, coordinates, directions, photos of the surrounding area, or anything that can help me find this spot

4 Day / 3 Night Itinerary Help

Going to Big Bend for the first time and really excited. Have been wanting to make this trip for years and finally coming to fruition.

A few things I would like to do while I’m there is:

  • Lost Mine Trail Hike
  • Hot springs
  • River tour / kayak
  • Slot Canyon Hike
  • Mexico visit / lunch / beer
  • Black Gap Trail drive (4x4)
  • Ghost town / bar

I’m trying to plan out the ideal itinerary for this trip and looking for any advice.

From what I can tell most of my wants are in the Rio Grande Village Basin inside the national park

Does it make sense for me to also go to the state park?

We will be in Jeeps / 4Runners

Any feedback is much appreciated!

Headed down to Big Bend next weekend

As the title mentions, my bf and I are heading down to Big Bend next weekend. We are novice hikers and were wondering if you guys had any hike recommendations or tips.

We are fully aware that hydration should be the top priority. Also due to our inexperience, we will not be camping.

Any advice is appreciated!
