Volcano Sushi's lunch special is a dollar more than a Big Mac meal
Yeah, I was in OKC for about 3 months and couldn't believe the value at Volcano. Don't get me wrong, I like my occasional McDonald's, but I was mostly posting this because fast food has gotten so expensive.
Oh absolutely it’s ridiculous. I saw that Jack in the Box had wings and I wanted to try them and it was twelve bucks for SIX.
I moved 45 minutes away from a Volcano and still think about it all the time! They are the best!
Uhhh filling if you barely eat i guess …? Perhaps your version and my version of portion sizes are different.
I guess! I eat pretty often but for lunch it def fills me up until dinner time! Im not saying you’ll walk out stuffed, and yeah everyone’s threshold is different! But even if you get the 9.99 special you can throw in an app (I recommend the crispy crab) its still a very cheap lunch!
Okay I agree with you on the lunch thing.. especially if I have to work after .. now dinner I can easily kill between 12-14 rolls
Just me .. lol
Lol YES! I am the same, could slam some rolls but for lunch it’s perfect to go back to work and not want to nap! Doesn’t weigh you down liken fast food
My friend and I would have a regular argument with the boss about this same exact thing years ago... He always ate Whataburger for lunch and spent like $15 and I could spend $12 have a bento box with miso soup and a drink and have more food and healthier food.
Exactly my thought, at least this is real food not fast food
The crazy part is once you go on a more unprocessed diet and cut out a bunch of sweets, carbonated sodas, ect and then go back and try some of the stuff 6 months later it tastes like absolute trash and you wonder why you even ate that
I like to eat out at nice places for lunch all the time. But you know what else I like. Fucking Braum’s burger and fries!
That’s because Braum’s is encoded in an Okie’s DNA.
I got i got I got loyalty, got braums 4 piece inside my DNA
I mean I try to eat pretty damn healthy, however I still have a craving for burgers and fries as well from time to time
Hey carbonation is incredible okay.
True it is mostly all the corn syrup and sugars in most carbonated beverages that is bad for you. The co2s isn't incredibly good for you, however in moderation I don't see where it would cause a huge problem
Water with dissolved CO2 is an acid and damages your teeth. Also, I drink approximately 50 cans of zero calorie soda per week.
Plus you feel like ur abt to die for a few days 😂
I didn't realize fast food had gotten that expensive.
Yeah it's not much cheaper than eating at Chili's off their discount menus.
I mean… Chilis is pretty much fast food you just wait longer for, right?
I mean, basically. That's the whole point of the fast casual category it's in.
I’d put it near the bottom of that category just above Applebees. Both make most meals using microwaves
My son and I are in the middle of a road trip right now, and we spent $24 at Wendy’s today! Just two #1s…just cheeseburger, fries, and a drink. How the hell is it now cheaper to eat at a sit down restaurant?
That's insane. The quality and quantity isn't good enough to justify those prices.
That’s not even that bad, I went to grab lunch for my coworker she had a chicken sandwich, fries and shake and it’s freaking $12.88
At Mcdonald's?
It’s so fucking annoying how they don’t include lettuce and tomato by default on the burger unless you pay fucking 11 bucks, pieces of shit company
I've never ordered a fast food burger from anywhere except In & Out, Shake Shack, and Five Guys. If the latter two had charged extra, I would've done the big t-word.
Yes it has; the trick to saving on fastfood and getting FREE items is to download their APP! For example Taco Bell, McDonald's, starbucks, the list goes on. The only downside is that some of the deals/rewards expire quickly. Uh I do not eat fastfood often so most of them go to waste but if you do, Download the APPS!
I love Volcano Sushi so much.
Yes I would eat these things.
I love 1 but I don't like raw fish
I feel the same but you can get beef chicken or cooked sushi rolls as well. My family likes to eat there all the time
For this bento, I like the salsa sauce and sushi roll. The chicken and rice seems not worth it because I know how to make it.
Is it a texture/flavor thing?
Nope. Just don't like to eat raw fish because of the risk
The first one
It literally depends on the mood I'm in.
Totally
Depends on what I'm in the mood for. They both taste good in their own categories.
I would absolutely take a bento box over a burger and fries every time

Who’s going to McDonalds and getting a meal these days? If I’m going to McDonalds, I’m eating off the value menu and that’s it lmao
10 piece nugget meal is $6 if you use the app. I don’t know about other people, but that seems inexpensive to me. I also eat out a lot and spend $50 - $100 (including tip) on a meal for two a few times a week.
Yeah I just commented about downloading the apps. It only takes a second to do so. I refuse to pay FULL price for fastfood; absolutely not!
For how many people?
I go McDonald’s if I feel like getting robbed for the most subpar sandwich possible
Honestly, the only downside of the sushi is the time it would take to get it. I don’t have a long enough lunch break for it.
I don't care for sushi, so I'd take the McDonald's.
Folks will go to Taco Bell and spend $12 on three crappy items vs stopping at Mexican spot or taco truck and spending $8 on 5 tacos
Not really a good comparison though since you have to tip for the sit down meal. You also don't receive a drink.
That being said, I would still choose the volcano over McDonald's.
And with free refills and zero ice you could easily be looking at a 2 liter of soda. And thats of course compared to getting zero soda. In most contexts I can imagine I'd definitely want caffeine with this. Neither of these meals is really something I'd get a few hours before bed.
Then moving on to the other meal. Wow a cup of plain white rice. Is this a joke? We're comparing value here? This is almost a no contest. Especially these days in my opinion rice is cheaper than ever. A cup of plain white rice is literally nothing. Maybe a ten cent value seriously.
Sushi. All day everyday.
Big Mac has never been a good value, even 20-years ago when I was a kid.
Sushi looks fine, but I'll be real and say there is a time when you just want nostalgia and McDs. A Quarter Pounder with cheese, fries optional, and no drink will be cheaper than this sushi.
This sushi special also doesn't look very filling or tasty - to me. A lot of rice filler, maybe 4oz of chicken and 3 pieces of nigiri. It isn't a great deal.
You’ve got vegetables, a salad and soup as well. If you just like McDs, it’s okay. But the sushi combo is actually real food and not just a massive bomb of fats, trans fats and carbs..
I’d take the bento box every day of the week. Don’t care for McDonald or fast food.
Do you know what the call a a quarter pounder with cheese in Paris?
The McDonald’s near me has it for 9.29 so it’s even more expensive. Lmao
Also, to be fair that’s a lunch special at Volcano and the big Mac costs the same all day every day not just a few hours a day.
The bento for sure 🤤
They are such wildly different foods you can't really compare it. If I'm in the mood for a burger, sushi is not going to cut it.
I'd just go to a better burger place
Man.. I wish I liked sushi 😂
Well, it's a bento box so you can select from a choice of like a dozen items. You can get all cooked items too.
Oh nice!
That looks so good. There’s 0 incentive to hit up places like McD’s anymore at those rates when there are so many good local places in the same price range but way better quality.
T&T you can feed two people with one meal for 11.95. Taste amazing too.
Paid $10.99 for a Whataburger combo at lunch today in Weatherford. Would much rather had a bento box and a 12 oz Sapporo.
Volcano
Bento for health. Mcdonald for pleasure.
I prefer the first one, at least I know it’s healthier 🤭
The volcano lunch special >>>
Don’t you have to still tip though? That adds on to the price
To be fair, Volcano lunch does not include a drink. That's $2.75 more (I'm guessing). Plus a tip. On $12.75 at 20% (don't be a cheap bastard) that's $2.50 more. Now we are over $15.
Sushi is my favorite food so this is an easy choice for me. burgers are also one of my favorite foods, definitely top 5 but imho McDonald’s is almost never worth it. Insanely overpriced for what you are getting. Sometimes I’ll get a 1/4er from mickeyDs and it hits pretty good but probably only because it’s 3am and I’m stoned but realizing how much it cost for what I got always leaves me disappointed. Tangentially related I went to Qdoba the other day and spent like 15 bucks on a burrito and drink and the burrito was the dinkiest little thing I’d ever seen, like half the size of what I remembered. I maybe would’ve taken McDonald’s over that
The first one every time! McDonald’s is gross 🤢
Replace the sushi with some crab rangoons and I’m in
damn the special was like, 7.99 just a year or 2 ago. still an amazing deal, and dont forget to tip your server!
Actually you bring up a big point that tip probably puts it over McD. So at that point it is if you value the food type and paying a service worker or not.
I’ll take the Big Mac and fries
McDonalds.
Sushi lunch for sure
If I had to chose, I'd have to pick McD's. I don't like fish at all.
McDonald's is trash.
Deathly allergic to mushrooms, with a psychological block about eating fish (I had fish as pets), so I guess I'm headed to McDonald's.
I think the point of the post is that a lot of local places have good lunch specials that are cheaper than fast food. My favorite is Cous Cous on May and 63rd. Their gyro is pretty big, delicious, and I think like $6.99.
Ah, but the question in the title is "Which would you rather" and with the choices presented, the $10 Volcano sushi special is inedible for me, which leaves one option.
I understand your taking OPs question entirely as is, which is fine, but I do want to say that while OPs bento box may be inedible for you, I'm pretty sure with different options the special would be edible for you (assuming no other dietary restrictions, and that you're not opposed to eating at a place serving a lot of fish).
Haven't been to volcanos specifically in a while, but Im pretty sure that is a bento box special and I'd be surprised if there were no fish and mushroom free options. I don't eat fish (besides some shellfish) or mushroom, I bet there is an option with chicken or pork for the main item and a soup/salad with no mushrooms.
I GET that there's a lot of great local places to eat at that doesn't involve fast food. My husband and I, with it being summer and all, aren't cooking at home right now - I'm going to the little restaurants up and down south Sooner Road, or Air Depot to grab us lunch/dinner.
I just happen to be that person that, if my husband took me to a sushi place, I'd grab fast food on the way home if I couldn't find a katsu or teriyaki on the menu.
Volcano?
The one on the right, because I wanna know how you got it for so cheap!
Nationally, McDonald's has been lowering their prices recently because they've been getting some hate eversince they jacked up their prices due to the pandemic and not lowering them afterward with record profits. So you may see some locations doing that. However, franchises can independently set their own prices. I think inflation is just big companies taking advantage of us.
The one on the right,
Because I wanna know how you
Got it for so cheap!

Yes
Plus $2 tip for the sushi so really it’s $12 vs $9. Still not bad. Didn’t know OKC was next to the ocean though.
McDonald’s because that coke
The food
The former. All day, everyday.
Hands down the first option
Bento fosho
A rotisserie chicken for 5 bucks
2
I'd eat the real food every time.
Didn’t McDonald’s just come out with the (temporary) $5 meal deal?
Sushi
Volcano all day.
Honestly it depends on my mood. Sometimes I’m in a McDonald’s mood sometimes I’m in a bento box mood. Just depends on what I’m craving
1
Bento erryday babbbyyyy
The bigger question is who sits down and eats at a McDonald’s?
Depends on my mood that day, Either or is fine with me lol.
Neither
This right by my house I need to go more often
McDonald's
First pic only 9.99???
Not even a question. One of these is a meal of edible food. The other is McDonald's. If a hell exists, that's what they serve.
I'd prolly get the burger and drink, throw away the fries.
McD's
To be fair, neither one is a great deal. I understand restaurants are expensive to operate so I’m not being critical. Obviously the bento box looks better. But when you get right down to it there isn’t much there. The fish and the chicken are really the only thing of any substance and there isn’t much of it. A tablespoon of lettuce with 3 or 4 slices of cucumber and some soup that is probably 98% water as far as ingredients. Rice is dirt cheap and very unhealthy pure simple carb starch. (Not as bad as french fries but let’s not fool ourselves.) I feel like it’s kind of an optical magic trick to make not that much food look like much more than it is.
All that said, its all the calories most people should have and still better food than McD so I’m not saying you’re wrong….just saying it’s still not that great.
I think sushi rolls are less healthy than people think. They’re 80 to 90% rice.
Yeah, surprised someone was touting it comes with a salad… looks more like garnishment
I wasn't aware that some people think rice was anything but healthy
It has a high glycemic index. It’s mostly starch and turns to sugar in your body. It’s basically like pasta, potatoes and white bread. Is it “bad” for you? Like everything its about balance and moderation but most of us eat too much of these kind of carbs and it contributes to obesity and diabetes when you eat too much. Like I said, it’s not worse than french fries and if you eat a small amount as part of a balanced diet it’s fine. But it is basically cheap filler food with empty calories.
Oh good tip!
You know, it's actually roughly the same weight of food, but the fish and rice won't leave me feeling like I just ate playground sand for breakfast, without any milk.
I LOVE the Volcano lunch special! It is super filling, especially if you get two rolls. For two sushi rolls, rice, salad, and soup, for $9.99, its an amazing deal. I usually get a roll, then the three pieces of sashimi that I use the rice with. I almost never finish it all. I hope they never get rid of this!
