Posting

Review the subreddit rules before posting. If this is a question regarding the Michigan SOS, the majority of their answers can be found on their FAQ.

Questions about goods and services will likely be referred to a local subreddit. A list can be found below in the wiki. For example, if you're looking for restaurant recommendations in metro Detroit, then you'd likely want to use the r/Detroit subreddit. We are not Yelp, Zillow, or Craigslist.

Rules

Please note that your account must be at least 30 days old before you can post.

  1. Racism, hate speech, and threats will not be tolerated. This includes suggestions or celebrations of violence, suicide, or death on others.

  2. Foul, rude, or disrespectful language will not be tolerated. This includes any type of name calling, disparaging remarks against other users, and/or escalating a discussion into an argument.

  3. Brigading, astroturfing, and vote manipulation are not allowed. This includes users who spam identical topics across multiple subreddits with little or no participation in the community.

  4. Self-promotion and social media posts are not allowed - this encompasses all social media including YouTube videos.

  5. Soliciting, surveys, fundraising, and advertising of any kind is prohibited. This includes GoFundMe requests, buying, selling, and ISO posts designed to benefit the poster.

  6. This subreddit is intended to be a place to showcase & discuss the best state in the nation. While all views and opinions are welcome, this is not a soapbox or a stage. Keep the focus on Michigan.

  7. The headline of your post must be the headline of the article you are posting. No AMP or other aggregator links - all links must be a direct link to your submission. If the article is paywalled, please do your best to summarize it.

  8. Posts should be from fact-based sources. Before submitting, please use a site like Media Bias Fact Check, AllSides, or Ad Fontes Media. If it's skewed heavily to one side, has a low credibility rating, or is an opinion piece masquerading as news, then the post will likely be removed. The same applies if the domain is not ranked or if content is obviously AI-generated.

  9. Photography, illustrations, and artwork should be used to illustrate the beauty of our great state. Photos of political signs, selfies, t-shirts, illegal activities, and other non-nature items will likely be removed. Photographs must include a general location in the title, e.g. "Beautiful Sunset in Grand Haven, MI".

  10. Information and statistics contrary to accepted scientific opinion must be accompanied by a verifiable source. Misinformation and misleading posts will be removed.

  11. Requests for legal, medical, insurance, or financial advice will be removed. It is inadvisable to request this type of information from a group of random and likely unqualified strangers.

  12. Questions for the moderators should go through modmail (Message the Moderators button). Public posts made to ask moderation questions are likely to be removed.

  13. No Moving/Vacation threads on main page, they must be in the megathreads. Members voted, and we have re-instituted the moving/vacation megathread. Please use it.

All enforcement of rules is as neutral as possible. Remember that the moderators can't read every single post, so we also rely on users to report any rule-breaking. Please keep in mind that the "report" button is for reporting offenses that are against the rules, not because you disagree with someone. Abuse of the report system can result in a ban. Rule enforcement is up to the mods, and bans are likely for repeated or egregious rule-breaking.
