High water bill

Newish homeowner and never dealt with this before. My bill has been consistently at ~$200 every cycle for the few years I've been here. The most recent one that is due next week is almost $500. Can't think of any changes in water usage in the past 3 months. Any chance the meter read is wrong and can be disputed?

Looking for moving boxes

Moving soon and on the lookout for moving boxes and bubble wrap if anyone has any they are looking to get rid of (would be ok with plastic totes/crates)

Crunch Westland, Anyone?

So, I live in Livonia, but I work out at Crunch in Westland. I used to have a workout partner, but I wasn't losing weight fast enough. Frustrated with my lack of progress (I prefer to do it without anavar), they moved out and moved on, working out with new people now. I prefer lifting to classes. It's more fun with someone. Anyone who works out at Crunch looking for a gym buddy?

Emergency Vet near Livonia Who Takes Payments?

Morning, Michigan! Awkward and embarrassing post ahead:

I have a 7 month old Cane Corso who woke up with eye cherries yesterday. I spent every dime I had (until next payday) to get him seen. They were able to give us drops and cleaning solution, but I can't get approved for Care or Scratchpay due to the current financial situation. It's been a rough few years. Divorce, large storms bringing trees down on to the house, two cars (lemons. An engine blown 2 months after purchase and another in an accident), and a kid who plays sports. Trying to keep all of the financial balls in the air has been a challenge, but I'm damned determined to make it all work.

I have been trying to find a vet in the area who will allow me to may bi-weekly payments when I get paid. So far I haven't had any luck. Does anyone have any insight? I am not looking for handouts. I will sign whatever I need to, to include a wage garnishment, to make it happen, I just need to get our pup better. He's the sweetest dog in the world; loves every dog, person and cat he comes across. He's so hard to see him like this. My son is 15. This is his first dog and I have never seen a more loved animal. My hip attachment during the day, my son's cuddle bug all night. Right now I can only afford $100 every 2 weeks. I know the surgery total with pre-op and meds and such is around $3,000.

School of Choice in Niji Iro

Please don’t hate me for trying to find better opportunities for my son. With that being said, I am looking to move to an affordable city around Niji Iro immersion school. I am trying to school of choice my son into the school and wondering the best ways to go about it. Please look at and consider or correct my assumptions below

  1. I am first wondering if anyone here has experience school of choice raffle with Niji Iro or if niji even gets to the point of raffling? If there’s always plenty of seats I don’t even need to worry.

  2. I am considering enrolling my son in a Livonia 3 or 4 year old program in Livonia public schools like the Jackson early childhood center (edit:or an equivalent Livonia public preschool). I want to try this because I read once enrolled in Livonia public schools, the student has a guaranteed spot moving forward in the district. (Or is this a guaranteed spot in just that school moving forward?)

  3. Finally I am considering working at the Livonia Public school district. A job listing says “additionally, the children of employees working 20+ hours, living outside the district’s attendance boundaries, are eligible to attend Livonia public schools via school of choice” The way I read this is as a guaranteed school of choice. Not the same school of choice option that any other school of choice, out of district, student would get?

Again correct or help me figure this out as much as you can!

Thank you! Again, first time parent so please be nice because I know Reddit can be rough.

Eloise Asylum Escape

Just wondering if anyone here has done the escape room(s) at Eloise Asylum. My group basically finished off the place we had been going to and I'd love to try Eloise, but I'm pretty much the only one in my group that does horror, so I'm curious as to how bad the scare factor is here.

Grief Support Camp for Children

Hi.

I volunteer for a non-profit that organizes free, grief/bereavement support camps for children, age 7 - 17, who lost a parent, sibling, care taker, or other loved one/family member.

It's called Comfort Zone Camp. They are based in Virginia, and they have camps throughout the country and throughout the year.

The co-founder is originally from Michigan, and later this year, September 20 - 27, they will have their first Michigan camp in partnership with Herbert Adelman Foundation.

Here's a news article:

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2024/03/12/comfort-zone-camp-michigan-oakland-suicide/72840734007

More info about Comfort Zone Camp:

Feel free to check their social media @comfortzonecamp (IG, FB, etc.).

Here's an article from TIME Magazine -

https://time.com/6286420/suicide-bereavement-camps-kids

Most of their camps are open to kids who suffered a loss of a loved one from any form of death / passing -- but their Michigan camp in September is focused on suicide loss.

If anyone knows a child who lost a family member (or friend) to suicide or if you know anyone interested in volunteering -- please feel free to share this.

https://comfortzonecamp.org/event/michigan-weekend-camp-for-suicide-loss-programs-for-ages-7-17-in-partnership-with-herbert-adelman-foundation

The camp location is north of Detroit and east of Lansing.

The camps starts on Friday afternoon and continues until Sunday afternoon. Volunteers are expected to stay for the entire duration.

So yeah, it's a time commitment -- and many people are busy...but for those who are able to attend -- it's truly a special and worthwhile experience (for both the adult volunteers and especially the children).

The following videos are old, but show what the camp is about -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLF7KWgfwfg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dbk2Pigfb_U

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLwYyfpwfHU

Regarding the camping aspect...this is not tent camping.

Think of it like a summer camp where school children go and stay in cabins...so they usually use established/developed venues.

Cabins with bunk beds, restrooms with flush toilets, sinks with running water, showers, a dining room where the kitchen staff prepares meals, etc.

Volunteers typically bring their own sleeping bag, pillow, blanket, etc...but there's no need to bring other camping equipment/gear (e.g. tent, air mattress/mad/pad, stove, etc.).

If anyone is new and interested in helping, they require attending an orientation and passing a criminal background check. Children's safety is important, and multiple adult volunteers and staff will be present (in other words, no child is ever alone with an adult).

To attend their online training meeting, click the aforementioned website above to sign up (click "Register to Volunteer" button) and they should provide a zoom meeting link.

Some volunteers are young adults (college students, recent graduates, etc.) and some are middle age to older adults too. Kids tend to like volunteers who are friendly, fun, positive, silly, etc.

Many people are busy, and committing an entire weekend is challenging, but maybe someone out there is good with kids, can be a positive role model (like a big brother/big sister), and is interested in helping some kids deal with grief and loss.

They sometimes are low on male volunteers -- so if you know of any exceptional men out there -- please feel free to help spread the word.

If anyone is serious or curious about learning more, check out their website and videos.

If interested in helping, follow their instructions on how to sign up at https://comfortzonecamp.org/volunteers

Attend the new volunteer training.

Pass a criminal background check.

And have a fun time during camp. It's a life-changing experience for both kids and adults imo.

p.s.

If anyone knows a parent with a child(ren) who has experienced loss, please feel free to share with them about this camp (again, it's free to attend), and it can be very beneficial for kids to not feel alone in coping with their sadness, pain, grief, etc.

FAQ

I don't speak on behalf of Comfort Zone Camp, and can't give any official answers, but sometimes people ask common questions, so these are my opinions on how to answer such questions -

Q: Is there a cost to attend?

A: It's free for kids/parents due to generous donations and partnerships.

Q: Can I help for just a day?

A: They usually prefer volunteers stay for the entire weekend, Friday until Sunday.

Q: Does the camp have any religious affiliation / association?

A: No. Some attendees might have personal faith / beliefs, but the camp is open to anyone & everyone. I think of it like public school, where kids come from different & diverse backgrounds.

Q: Do volunteers need to have experienced a personal loss?

A: No. Some volunteers have lost a parent, sibling, grandparent, etc. at a young age, but some volunteers have not. It's not a requirement nor expectation.

If anyone has other questions or wants an official answer to anything, please feel free to reach out to Comfort Zone Camp on their website or social media.

Their email is [email protected]

Thank you.

I know this don't do nothing but it is on par with the PD. Must be nice to have a sitty expensive car and you are so privileged. You get to do over 60 from Plymouth rd to 8 mile. Then turn left thru a parking lot onto 8 mile all while yapping on your phone. Everyday 7am! Ever see a cop? I heard they wear blue?! I may have to swerve for a dog or something someday.

Internet?

Moving to 48150 soon. Looking for people's experience with wow internet. What else are you using? Prices? Is xfinity not available in livonia?

To who misplaced their welding helmet.

I just left the shell gas station (chillbox) at 7mi and Inkster. There was a welding helmet still in the plastic on top of the garbage bin at the pump. I took it inside and gave it to the employees behind the desk.

Do you even speak rāndakēļ

I really thought this was for the rāndarahva, but why in this Ukos green earth is there a Livonia in Michigan USA.... of all places.
