No regrets until you ass catches fire next morning.
if you are Mexican it doesn't do anything to your body
I'm sure the spicy butt thing is a Reddit trope. My ancestors never went further than the next northern English village for as long as we can search back and clearly there's not a single spicy thing grows there, but I'm fine with spice.
I think it's because they have hemmorhoids
I'm not so delicate as to get spicy butt from chorizo and a single jalapeño slice lol but it can definitely happen if the food is super spicy. Usually feel it when I make jerk chicken (we live in a Caribbean neighborhood in Brooklyn and the rubs I buy are way spicier than anything I've ordered in a restaurant run by white people), and there's this one Sri Lankan place in manhattan that will set your whole body on fire. So delicious, though.
Jerk spice is definately another level of spice. I used to go to a little Caribbean place in South London on the drive home from work.
Went every Friday and after about two or three times the lady asked if I wanted some spicy sauce this time, like I was ready for it or something. I usually stick hot sauce on the side anyway so said yes.
Couldn't feel my face for about 3 hours. It was amazing and delicious but christ that was a spice I wasn't expecting.
I think it's a genetic thing. It's definitely a thing for me. :(
I'm fine with spice to a certain point. Most Mexican, Indian and South East Asian food is fine... Some of the spicier stuff in these cuisines do get into the ring of fire zone, though. Still, most food that's cooked without the intention of being a spice challenge is acceptable to me.
That being said, I've eaten a fresh ghost pepper before on a dare, and I can tell you firearrhea is very real. If you don't get a bout of burning colitis and a searing sphincter after eating something like that, you are blessed genetically. That's if you can keep it down, I immediately started hiccuping and dry heaving after the spice set in-- so much so I had to go lay down for a bit to avoid spewing enzyme drenched fire-balls lol
My body has recently acquired this super power. I've been testing it with increasing volumes of increasingly spicy food, and apparently it's no longer a pain in the b-hole.
I don't know how it happened, but I feel so blessed at this moment.
try to make your own salsa with dried chiles, a whole new level of flavor and spiciness
Can confirm, half mexican, nothing spicy makes my butt hurt, nothing I've eaten so far
To include very spicy chili and curry.
nice, do you live in the US?
That I do, northern midwest.
Not true. It usually comes out of your mouth in the form of, "puta madre!" after you realize you bit off the one jalapeno that had all of the seeds in it.
Been there. Done that
Nah man 15
Would recommend dicing the jalapeño next time, instead of having once slice in one spot per taco, unless you like it then keep doing it c:
I recommend redacting the jalapeño, because I’m a boring bastard who hates heat.
if you cut out the white stuff of the jalapeno, there's barely any heat left
You could use Poblano or Mulato, they're very close to green bell peppers in the heat department, just tastier.
Something that you could try if you wanted to would be a lower heat chilli, as well as cutting out the seeds and white stuff. Cooking them in a sauce (I usually do tomato base) helps a bunch, and my girlfriend who thinks black pepper has too much heat can handle it
Thanks! I’ll consider it next time I cook. It would be nice to be able to try all the spicy food I’ve been missing out on.
White people historically cannot handle heat. Take a look at British cuisine.
Don’t be ridiculous, the reason for us not using many spicy ingredients is because none of it grows in our country naturally ( yes it’s possible to grow a chilli in our country , it’s not particularly easy or practical as a food crop in the U.K. unless you’re on the south coast or the south east )
It’s completely preposterous to say “white/British people can’t handle heat” it’s just not something we eat a huge amount of traditionally but I haven’t come across huge swathes or English people that won’t/can’t eat spicy foods ( and yes I cook for a job )
If you want to be like that then look at the distribution of dairy consumption before 2005~ or so , Asia didn’t consume much at all and they didn’t have any tolerance to lactose , in just 10 years or so it exploded in Asia and especially China where the population is quickly gaining tolerance to it ( hence butter being so much more expensive since 2005 and especially recently ) , it’s been just a bit more than 10 years we’ve been eating spicy food in England and we’ve gained a liking for it even so to say we can’t/won’t eat it is just bullshit
And on the “white people” thing aside from England that’s completely null , you have country’s predominantly Caucasian that eat spicy food traditionally for a long time now
Ain't nothing to do with being white. You just baby flavours.
It makes me feel better to think it’s genetic tho
I used to live with x3 friends. Dinner time was always dinner for x3 and a separate dinner for our mate Kev, who forevermore will be known as baby flavours for the spicy reason. Although he basically couldn't eat anything with strong flavours - "baby flavours" was born.
I like to think I’m not a Kev but I probably am. Cannot tolerate spice, it hurts! I don’t taste anything it just hurts and makes my mouth itch. I’m gonna try milder peppers to see if i could work up to spicier food but we’ll see.
Apparently eating spicy foods releases happy chemicals. Although not so happy at the other side.
I've eaten some disgustingly hot stuff in my time. Theres definitely limit!
Eat well friend!
It's something you can easily try out at home
here's some scientific fact https://cooking.stackexchange.com/questions/15932/what-is-the-hottest-part-of-a-chili-chilli-chile-pepper
There's barely any capsaicin in the flesh.
Just use the green stuff
Don’t be a coward... put some salsa verde (aguacate, chile habanero, tomate verde, sal y pimienta) in your tacos... so tasty...
Manchester City give Liverpool their guard of honour
Jalape~os normally arent sliced like that in chorizo tacos... to be accurate they are not at all noticeable or part of the chorizo tacos... just saying.
Spicy part comes from Salsa.. good salsa makes the difference
I like this comment; you seem friendly.
I agree but many people don't enjoy homogeneous foods. You probably don't even like all of your food homogenous. Best example that comes to mind is that a pretzel with large coarse salt on it tastes far better than if you just mixed the same amount of salt into the dough before hand.
I recommend having an extra jalapeño to eat between the bites of the taco
There used to be a taco spot near my place that gave you a whole pickled jalapeno with every order. It was perfect between tacos as a palette cleanser, and it only got hotter as you got closer to the stem, so you could cage how much pain you were getting into before you got all the way there.
we do that too, but we call it jalapeño en escabeche instead of picked jalapeño
Is homogon food the next organic food? Never heard of it
No homogeneous is just a fancy word for something being the same all the way through. A cube of tofu is very homogeneous. A salad is not homogeneous at all; it is heterogeneous because some parts of it are croutons and some parts of it are lettuce.
Well, I wouldn't put one big grain of salt on a single bite of pretzel, either.
Your example of the pretzel isn’t great. Part of the reason the salt works is it’s on the outside and gives a bit of a crunch. It’s all about that texture (and taste!).
What?
Having differences in texture is exactly the type of thing I'm talking about. Homogeneous means it's the same all the way through. Differences in texture are example of heterogeneity not homogeneity.
I mean that when you dice the jalapeño, it doesn’t get mixed into the chorizo in the same way that salt would mix into the pretzel dough.
Edit for a bit more clarity: your example is a great example of homogenous/heterogenous food, but doesn’t compare well with jalapeños in a taco.
I used an extreme example to illustrate a point. Not everyone wants the same bite of food every bite and that includes the distribution of jalapenos in a taco. Stop being obtuse.
Salsa verde would be my choice.
Salsa Picada/Pico de gallo
No weyyy, habanero
It’s the kind of dish you would get at a restaurant and they’d give you the little plastic containers of salsa and you’d pour on the salsa verde.
Sometimes the lime juice is all you need
Salsa Machacada/Salsa Ranchera is a must
salsa molcajeteada
Yes. Looks lovely, but dry.
In méxico we dont eat parmesan cheese , we use "queso fresco" totally different from parmesan cheese.
This might be an odd question, but where do you get legit Chorizo? I have attempted to find some, but it doesn't seem to be the real stuff, it tastes similar to kielbasa.
The grocery store near me sells raw Spanish chorizo sausage (as opposed to cured). Just cut the meat out of the case, and fry it in a pan. I suppose it's not "legit" Mexican chorizo, but it's good enough for me.
Mexican grocery store.
Where do you live? Any Portuguese or Spanish small grocery or corner stores they would carry it.
Portuguese- and Spanish-style chorizo are both very different from what you’d want to use in tacos
Go to any Mexican grocery store that sells meats etc. Many of them make their own chorizo that’s definitely a step up from the $1.50 chorizo in plastic lol
Majority of Portuguese and Spanish chorizo is very high quality definitely not 1.50. Toronto is multicultural so many options to buy I guess. Depends what's local to you.
I’m not talking about quality and I have no idea how much proper Spanish/Portuguese chorizo costs.
I’m referring to the fact that those two varieties are cured and are often eaten raw, vs. Mexican chorizo is sold completely raw and is grilled in its casing or opened and fried in a pan. It’s also seasoned differently.
If ya only like a little spice in ya tacos (Guessing by only 1 jalepeno slice) Cut them length wise so you can get a little bit in every bite!
I love chorizo tacos
Try going to a local Mexican market. The chorizo they have there is way better than anything you find at Walmart or whatever
Make the chorizo yourself. Game changer.
it's super easy to DIY, and you can adjust everything to your liking. I like this recipe https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2014/01/easy-fresh-mexican-chorizo.html
Hey thanks for this!! I don’t have the meat grinder but I was stoked to see the “you can use ground pork” nite at the bottom.
Cheers - I think even I can manage to make this and then the tacos! I’m a new cook (aged 50 - long story) and these look fantastic and delicious. And oops there goes my heartburn but I’ll take it for awesome Mexican food. And I will dice my jalapeños as they’ll be mixed into my own pico!
I made soyrizo tacos today. Maybe you can try out soyrizo.
Store brand chorizo is not that good honestly. Should go to a Mexican grocery store that makes it in house and it will be way better or make it yourself. Should try longaniza. I prefer it over chorizo tbh
Chorizo tacos are my favourite to make at home. You get all of the authentic flavors, without spending hours making carnitas or barbacoa. Just quickly brown some chorizo.
Funny story. As a kid, I'd had chorizo on a flauta once before and I liked it a lot. About a month later, my uncle takes me fishing. While at Walmart getting bait, he suggests we get drinks and snacks or a light lunch.
I was thinking precooked brats so we get over there and I saw chorizo! It was packaged just like a large kielbasa or summer sausage so I was like, I Love this stuff! I want to get this for lunch.
It wasn't until we'd been on the water for two hours before I opened it up, took a bite, and realized it was raw and not actually a sausage at all...
I was so disappointed that my uncle gave me half of his sub out of pity, lol :)
Why would your uncle let you buy and eat raw meat?
Old northern white guy. He didnt know what it was and just trusted me to pick out what I wanted. It really did just look like a long red sausage the way it was packaged.
So no recipe?
*Smashes phone
*Breakes skateboard
Sits down and cries on the curb because can’t get home now
That's a nice looking plate but that jalapeño isn't very functional 🤔
It's better to use serrano instead of jalapeño
I don't care about your tacos.. I like your plate
Yes I also want 7 of your chorizo tacos
Lit-o!
Now try adding chorizo to spaghetti, it really makes it nice and spicy.
I recently made a chorizo lasagna and it was amazing. Whoever invented chorizo is a legend in my book.
Are you my husband? He never had chorizo before I introduced it to him. I liked making chorizo breakfast burritos or chorizo tacos...
I can never keep chorizo around long enough anymore because it ends up in lasagna, spaghetti, anything that uses ground beef/pork he ends up tossing in chorizo too. lol
PS a small amount of chorizo mixed in for burgers is actually amazing.
Probably not, though I certainly share his feelings towards chorizo. I just made some chorizo spice mix so I can add it to more stuff.
Ohh that’s a thought!
Thanks
Land of the Lost reference!
Chaka!
Just came in here to tell everybody about how fucking EASY it is to make your own corn tortillas! Masa, water, mix, ball up, press, and fry! Do it!
Also if you're in the UK and not near a Mexican supermarket (there's a few in London I know of). You can buy online easily enough.
The price of a bag of masa flour is around £3-4 ish but worth it for the amount of tortillas you get and how delicious they are (good brand ones are like £1.60 in the supermarket ready made anyway).
Forgot the eggs
I always see chorizo tacos on the menu, but it just seems to strong, and I think eggs would make it better.
ooo look lovely
call Danny Devito! This guy needsa egg!
I also had chorizo tacos tonight. Very nice.
Can’t wait for chorro
Perfecto
Is that coriander
Finally someone that doesn't murder their tacos with cebolla! Looks good!
You monster
Dude, that looks fresh!
A+ looks amazing ! You did a good job of making this pro on the plate!
Yum
Those look amazing. I would eat those and ask for three more lol.
These look insane! Was this your first time? They look incredible
Looks great. I just bought chorizo for another dish and have extra!
Hasta que por fin veo una foto de unos verdaderos tacos ❤️❤️❤️ y no la absurda versión de los gringos 🤮🤮🤮
Ill make the horchata, Ill be over for lunch!!
I think I stumbled into heaven 😍 🍽
Eggs and green salsa
Those look lovely!
Chop up those jalapenos. Makes now sense to have a big ring in something so small
Now I'm hungry
nice tacos my gringo, the jalapeño 👌
I made some yesterday! They were delicious.
Good work. Chorizo and Chorizo y papas are my favorite tacos to make when paired with a really good and spicy salsa verde.
Queso Fresco? To me, that is all its missing.
I can’t tell but there’s something on the tacos. Either salt or the most conservative dusting of queso fresco
i can always tell when white people make something with chorizo because they dont cook it with other meats/ingredients. it’s meant to add spices and flavor, it’s not meant to be eaten on its own like chicken or steak
Wow! Nice
Nice 👍🏼 Take it to the next level, add frijoles refritos
Make tortillas, fry up the chorizo, add onion and cilantro, add jalapeno, squeeze some lime on it. I personally would add a fried egg, it balances the strong flavor of the chorizo.
I love how you didn't overdo the toppings like most people. I hate it whenever I have taco parties with friends, and they put so much meat that half of it falls out after the first bite. The tortilla is the best part, why overwhelm it.
Nicely made! very picturesque! With eggs and cheese please? :)
My favorite taco meat
Half a dollop of sour cream on each and chop the jalapenos please.
I'll wait.
Imagine eating homemade tacos and not filling them to the brim, so that you can’t possibly ever eat them and not make a mess but it tastes much better
I would eat about 12 of these.. with 0 regrets
