[Adrian Wojnarowski] The Knicks are sending four unprotected picks (2025, 2027, 2029, 2031) a 2025 protected Milwaukee first, a 2028 unprotected pick swap and a 2025 second-round pick for Mikal Bridges and a 2026 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.
Pretty wild how much this was discussed during the year, and actually ended up happening. Feels like most of the heavily-discussed potential trades never pan out.
Crazy right? It’s like the Knicks are building Villanova 2.0. What a haul!
At least we'll get some Nova basketball next year that isn't coached by Neptune
Dude he somehow ($$$) convinced Eric Dixon to return, got a couple decent transfers, kept Longino, and he's still gonna miss the tournament. Hate that guy. This is a top 25/30 roster and I can already tell it's NIT bound.
Dixon coming back will put us above DePaul at the very least. He's also on pace to be #4 all time in Villanova scoring and potentially crack the Top 5 in rebounding, which should be fun to watch.
The Bamba, Hausen, and Armstrong departures are brutal. I have no idea what Armstrong is smoking trying to go pro. Would totally understand if he transferred, but he is absolutely not going to succeed whether it's in the G-League or overseas. Really should've played out his college career.
The transfers this year are all mid major guys who basically put up the same stats and efficiency as the transfers from last year who basically all came from Power 5 schools, who were pretty underwhelming. Obviously I'm hoping for the best, but it's bleak out here. I hate NIL, I hate the transfer portal rules, I hate that it all made Jay leave. For a team that was so dependent on and successful with multi-year development of local underrated players, it's the death of the program.
As a Villanova alum and rockets fan I’m doubly excited
Who’s gettin regulated to D1 lol
The Detroit Pistons
I feel like D1 schools should have higher standards than that.
Relegated
Brooklyn reloading their stash real quick. Good for them
They needed to do something. This is great for them. Great haul
I love Mikal but I’m stunned Marks actually did this and picked a direction. God bless. Very content with the haul, but again, even more happy they actually picked a direction
Im happy for you guys too. Was actually listening about what the nets have...and i was thinking what exactly of value do they have to get someone next to mikal. Seemed like a good time to trade him. Still a good retutn though. Cant say that im sure they wouldve gotten more if they traded him earlier cause this is a lot too
Makes me real curious who else we are gonna ship out. The Mikal to the Rockets to get our picks back has been floated around for well over a year now but it never seemed like it was the full story and the reporting was all over the place.
My flair is gonna be the weirdest Easter egg lol
Cam Johnson and DFS are the most likely up next. CJ just might be more difficult because he was buns and took too much shooting advice from Reddick.
Claxton S&T seems more likely. Cam T has the reins to this franchise. Ben will seemingly just expire. No point in trading him unless he gets something nice back.
Might be able to swap Ben for a longer bad contract and a pick now that he's expiring.
Depends on what team values him. I can see Marks dangling him for a situation where he gets bad, but cheap contracts and a pick in return. Basically what he did before the Kyrie and KD era.
At this point anyone is available for you guys.
Even Simmons could be sent to some team who is looking to unload a big contract. Cam Johnson probably is the priciest one but he would be a great salary filler to meet the cap floor.
Ben Simmons contract might actually be somewhat useful this year bc there’s a lot of teams that want to completely clear cap space. But I’d rather that contract just expire to open up more options. Let the dude sit out all year, it works out either way lmfao.
Cam Johnson is a good player. His contract isn’t that bloated, he should fetch some assets. DFS and Schroder as well.
Marks dug himself out of a massive hole before, interested to see if he can do it again. Getting to trade all 3 of their big 3 definitely seems like it’ll accelerate the rebuild this time, instead of all those old men moving on and truly having to start from scratch
They turned durant into 9 unprotected frps and 2 pick swaps that's crazy
The KD trade was magnificent. This is the main source of bringing about all of this. If KD operated like Kyrie or Harden did, our franchise woulda been killed worse than it ever has been. But he got us a haul.
This is some fantastic work by Marks and I’m excited to see him finally be able to draft not in the 20s
What is that, like, 9 first rounders from the KD trade? He might get you that ring after all!
nothing worse than being a middling team drafting 15th every year
We haven’t used a lottery pick since Derrick Favors in 2010, it’s either been late 1sts or no picks at all for well over a decade. Marks has done great with late 1sts like Cam Thomas, Jarrett Allen, Clax, and Noah Clowney but I’m curious how he does with better picks.
Unless your the nuggets and draft porter jr. But that's the exception.
What happens with Claxton now? Do you guys keep him for the tank or trade him somewhere for even more picks?
They’ve said they want to bring him back but don’t want to overpay. He will most likely be signed and traded
Very curious to see what happens, definitely the start of a new chapter for Brooklyn. 👍
I finally feel free from the big 3 era 😭😭😭😭
Yeah I’m still iffy on Cam but know they have nothing to lose and can hand him the keys
Yeah, they made the move they needed to make. It’ll sting going into rebuild mode again but they need to decide what this roster is gonna be
I hope they can use those picks or Suns picks to get their picks back.
5 first??????
a true market altering trade
no stars are getting traded after this
I'm baffled with what the Pels are going to do
trade ingram for 3 picks or good players
Lol the sixers were gonna go for him potentially but no way for 3 picks. We’re gonna end up with Embiid maxey and no other players
Tobias Harris is out there I hear
It's closing time at the bar and the Sixers are going on a year+ long dry spell. Once again it's either Jimmy Butler or Tobias Harris, and they just saw Jimmy making out with a toilet seat.
Price of Dejounte for LA just went up
Price of the Brick went up
You mean D'lo is on the market???
I see no problem with this. Also this makes Trae’s price higher than this which no one will do.
This is actually a really important thing to bring up. Obviously you need to grossly overpay to get someone from a cross-town rival, but you know that any of the GMs on the team trading away the next big player will try and use this trade as a comparison.
Didn't GMs blame the Gobert trade for why they had a hard time trying to trade for Lauri?
This stuff always feels like bullshit to me. People never say the trade market value is down after stuff like the Siakam trade.
No stars got traded during this either lol
Mikal is the new Gobert
It's wild that a *checks bio* 1x All Defense 1st team player is worth 6 FRP + more.
But also like the Timberwolves at least in the short term they are going to be a very good team after this.
Usually that’s why teams do trades
Yes so he’s the new Gobert thanks for confirming
He is 100% exactly the player we needed without shipping off anyone important
for a guy with no all star appearances
with the swap its basically 6
The anti-Presti lmao
If Mikal is worth 5 first, what are guys like Jokic and Giannis worth?? Holy lord. That’s absurd.
Entire franchises
You joke, but this is literally the truth. These are players that cannot only bring a chip, but also bring so many fans (old and new) to the stadium and on TV.
4 unprotected, 1 protected, 1 swap and 2 seconds
Like holy shit. No major players though. But still
But 3 of those picks are guaranteed to be very late in the 1st (which is actually worse than an early 2nd because the players aren’t much better and the contracts are worse). And let’s be honest – no way the Nets are better than the Knicks in 4 years, so the swap is useless.
Even the pick 5 years from now, Brunson and Bridges will both only be 32. If they can re-sign them, they will easily be a playoff team.
So it’s basically 4 2nd round picks and an unprotected first 7 years from now, when Brunson and Bridges are both 34. Not a bad price.
But 3 of those picks are guaranteed to be very late in the 1st
let’s be honest – no way the Nets are better than the Knicks in 4 years, so the swap is useless.
It's insane we haven't learned not to make sweeping predictions like this.
If Mikal is worth 5 firsts then the wolves got Gobert at a discount
Jokic is worth one second round pick, that's what the Nuggets got him for.
Don’t try to make sense of NBA trades, they are not equal. Boston got KP and 2 first round picks in the same deal.
They gave up player though, why are you leaving that part out
they are quite literally priceless. imagine lebron in his prime. what amount of first round picks would genuinely replace him? there's no number. what team is trading jokic for 10-20 first round picks? no one.
All that for Mikal is wild
Unprotected is the key
Knicks banking on being really good for the next 5 years. Not a bad bet (still obv a fuck ton they gave up for just Mikal) with that team plus Mikal. But lord help them if they have some catastrophic injuries
It’s not a great bet to be honest.
Brunson is 6 feet tall and 28. Randle turns 30 this year. Role players will naturally roll off. In 5 years this team could easily be a shit show.
Giving up an unprotected 2031 first is insanity. SEVEN years away.
Some 6th grader just got traded across NYC
Or some kid in Eastern Europe who won’t touch a basketball for another 5 years lol
some Uzbek 12 year old with a pituitary gland problem
12 yr old, today: Goat herder
7 years from now, same kid: GOAT prospect
Hey, you leave Kyrgytstanslovimal Ruchitelihshfone out of this!
In 5 years this team could easily be a shit show.
So we get 5 good years and then a shit show? I will take it.
Just don’t be like the clippers and continue kicking the shit show can down the road.
Like bro, don’t you know our history the last 20+ fucking years or are you Rip van Winkling this? 5 great yers would be a godsend at this point.
You're missing one key Ingredient tho.
Thibs.
That man dragged playoff teams with Dj Augustine at the point. That man won a PLAYOFF SERIES with Jake Paul's first victim as their best offensive player.
Thibs is 66. He will probably try to coach this core as long as it lasts, maybe for 5-6 years and retire before trying to rebuild without picks.
Yeah we were just 1 game away from the ECF and that squad will be adding Randle, OG, Mitch, and now Mikal Bridges (assuming we re-sign OG and IHart)
Brunson’s height hasn’t stopped him from cooking everybody, hardly see how that’s relevant. And they have more than enough defenders to cover for him on that end now.
brunsons not 28 either, hes turning 28 before next season. and he does rely on speed/athleticism like the players that usually burn out early
Small guards tend to fall of hard and fast compared to other players in the league. There are exceptions, like Chris Paul, but there's a ton of shorter guys who really drop off a cliff in their early 30s.
Those guys are usually explosive athletes that cant seem to change or adapt.
Brunsons got that old man game and hes not really athletic. I think he will be OK
He's also a way better shooter and doesn't rely entirely on lay ups
Because undersized guards have a long history of falling off a cliff after 30.
Always go in unprotected
Nets fleeced but it’s worth it for the Nova Knicks
Bridges is awesome and as we have seen if you don't go big in recent years you go home but this seems like a huge gamble.
we've traded our picks for the last 2 years anyway. We have a ton more. We are going all in
Adding two premier locks to an already good team is great. Looking forward to these games next year!
Hmm so maybe the Bulls shoulda got a draft pick.
Yea this makes us look like fools and Sam Presti the fucking godfather wtf
Honestly tho what is OKC doing hoarding picks right now? Their team is young, good, and cheap. Go grab a star vet who can help you take that next step in the playoffs.
This is a massive overpay lol
Realistically the Nets weren’t trading him here unless we over paid.
Gobert set the market
Gobert is a better player though
Danny Ainge is a trading terrorist. This is going to hurt the Knicks so badly
Wait until Ainge gets these all from the Nets for a package of 3 heavily used stars
I’d rather give up the picks than give up the players.
Our core is strong and this just makes us a shit ton better
In a vacuum but it’s pushing all the chips in. They believe in the group and I like it when teams do that
i never wanna hear about the gobert trade ever again
You never should never have to hear about it even before this trade. Gobert helped you guys get to the WCF already
Youd be surprised
seriously. That trade was a huge W for the wolves franchise.
I mean at least Gobert was a 3 time all-star and a 4 time defensive player of the year, but this trade is fucking crazy.
They got like 9 firsts for KD
Pretty much what the nets turned down from the grizzlies, not that insane imo, he is on a good contract still and definitely wants to be there
But they got a 2026 second in return so it’s all good lol
5 PIECES OF KNIXODIA HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED
Kaiba is so fucked now
Time to throw the Knicks into the ocean
Only 4 unless they pick up omari spellman or eric paschall
*KNIXNOVIA
8 fucking picks?
My jaw dropped. Mikal is a good player but fucking hell the Knicks must think the fit is absolutely perfect
If only we knew how Mikal would look playing with Brunson, Hart, and DiVincenzo
the world may never know
They’re going all in baby they said FUCK the Celtics
The fit is absolutely perfect
5 picks and 3 swaps
Where did you get 8 from
Didnt know the thunder allowed the nets to loan sam presti
They still have the 24th and 25th picks in this draft
No one wants those picks, good lord
That’s an absurd haul Jesus…

If we had done the dumb thing and traded JB this is the type of shit I'd expect for a 24 year old top 15 guy. Not a 28 year old 3&D.
If they think Brunson is good enough (which this postseason showed perhaps he is?) then they have an awesome core around him now
They traded Jesus for him too??
Fuck man at this point they may have
yeah that’s a lot of picks but fuck it
Defense is going to be insane. And Mikal is so durable, this is really huge injury insurance for a team like the Knicks
Fuck the picks and enjoy the fun basketball! That's what it's all about.
Man he is gonna be awesome for you guys. Fuck those picks. Your squad is stacked now.
It’s a lot of picks that Thibs wouldn’t want in the rotation anyway lol. We’re looking at Brunson, Bridges, OG, Randle, Mitch/iHart (pls god). I don’t care about draft picks anymore.
That’s the thing. None of those picks were going to be playing as long as Thibs was coach, haha
2038 NBA champions Brooklyn Nets you heard it here first
Nah Boston will trade 36 year old brown and 35 year old Tatum for 2 unprotected first and they will fall off a cliff
RemindMe! 14 years
Crazy 2038 is only 14 years away. Just reading that number feels like it should be 20+
VILLY BOYS ARE BACK
Knicks traded 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031 unprotected 1sts
Jalen Brunson is 27
Julius Randle is 29
Mikal Bridges is 28
all these guys will be mid 30s for those latter two years of 1st round picks
2031 feels like an eternity from now
If you wanna feel old, 2031 and 2017 are the same time apart from 2024 even though 2017 feels like yesterday lmao
god i hope i have my life together by then
Everyone get in here
Good on Brooklyn, a lot of shit talked about them declining 4 firsts and how crazy they were and would sell low, but they got a tremendous haul.
I like the move for the Knicks too, that’s a serious team
BANGGGGGGGG THANK FUCK THEY DID THE RIGHT THING
5 first is wild but those 2025 ones will be late (and hopefully 2027)
yeah both of those 2025 picks don’t have a ton of value — and that 28 swap doesn’t feel like a lot either, I don’t think the Nets are going to be drastically better than the Knicks that year.
Worried about 2029 and 2031 for sure, but by then I’ll be dead from celebrating a Knicks title too hard and it won’t matter
yeah people get stuck on the numbers of picks, but the quality of picks matters way more. after this trade the Knicks shouldn’t sniff the lottery for at least 4 years unless something drastic goes wrong. 29 and 31 picks are gold, and the quantity gives the Nets a bunch of shots at sleeper picks, but I def don’t think it’s massively unbalanced
That’s a massive haul jesus
Bulls: Wait, you can get picks in a trade???
Lauri is about to command laurmillion picks
Just won’t get traded now. Ainge asking for Lauri and 3 picks
Is friendship really worth 5 firsts
4 unprotected firsts just seems like terrible idea gonna be honest here
I mean, Brunson is getting a max extension next year. OG is about to get re-signed. Bridges and Randle will both get extensions. Do we think that team will bottom out? They will all be picks in the 20's. Plus we have even more.
Brunson is extending this offseason to save the team money. He's not going to be a supermax player.
build his statue already
EDIT: Wait, I thought waiting to sign gave him more money?
If he waits until 2025 he'd be eligible for a supermax. If he extends this offseason with 1 year remaining, he maxes out at $37MM/year.
At some point during the negotiation, the Knicks actually said, "Throw in a 2026 second round pick, and we've got a deal."
This is a fucking insane haul for a dude coming off an unimpressive season who has never shown he can be the number one option.
To be fair, he doesn’t have to be in New York. At least that side of the city
Mikal is the perfect role player for a contender
I think everyone agrees but 5 firsts is crazy
Most picks in the NBA past the first 4-5 are straight dart throws. For every Giannis or Jokic there are 500 Rondale Hollis-Jefferson’s
Five firsts for a role player seems like a lot
in NY he only has to be the 3rd, some nights 4th, best offensive player, just like in Phoenix
Four unprotected picks for anything other than a superstar feels crazy.
Four unprotected picks, 1 protected, 2 swaps and 2 seconds 😮
But he's so freaking durable and Knicks neeeeed that injury insurance. They already have a roster who could challenge the Celtics but just need someone who can stay healthy and take them over the top.
Nova Knicks
LFG
Bridges and OG is gluttonous
that's a lotta picks
What else would we use them for
For this exactly. Thats a good trade
Yeah this is a team who was heavily hurt and one game away from the ECF. It’s a all in move for a team that was one step away last year
All of that for a 3rd/4th option
Yo nets did nice here
Man they flipped kd into like 10+ picks
That’s too much imo.
that’s a lot of unprotection!
Lauri is about to command laurmillion picks
Lfg we ride
You wouldn't even be allowed to make this trade on 2k.
This time around Nets robbed the cradle!
Villanova have been promoted to the NBA
