Like other people said.. try coop games. Horrified is a great coop game. And if someone's turns are taking an inordinate amount of time it's ok to set limits. And lastly, don't focus on winning or losing. It's the journey, not the destination.

I have a group of 9. We rarely have that many show up. It can get harder when you get up in the 6+ player range. I'm good with splitting into 2 tables, but some members have more fun playing a 7 player game.

Don't play the suggested first scenario as it is harder than the others. Feast for Umordoth is a good first scenario.

I had one playthrough with a very competitive player and it was chaotic; but my group is pretty casual, so I wouldn't consider it particularly contentious. So I guess it depends on if your players are out to pillage, or more focused on treasure hunting.
