(TLDR pretty straight forward on the bottom)

So I got a question… I found a copy of Root in the secondhand market online for a decent pricetag: 50$ with an Upgrade kit.

The game took AGES to get here, to the point where the selling service decided to refund me the total amount of the game even though I told them the pack isn’t lost, I just wanted to hold the payment off until I get it. Didn’t matter, I got a full refund and the seller got his full payment.

So now the game finally arrived, I was so surprised to win « the lottery » and then I check out the game. I look into it. And stuff feels off. So I go and check online… turns out there’s a lot of counterfeit copies and I got one… and obviously the person knew about it ( they kept the errata pack boards for riverfolk and Mechanical Marquise, which means they probably still have the game/expansions. noticed they had a counterfeit and changed it for a real game)

Anyway, kind of an underhanded move to not warn buyers about it, but that’s not the topic.

What I’m wondering is: given that there is an errata pack for the base game in here ( the 4 base clans)… is this game usable? Like could I at least use it to play the game with friends, and see how we like it?

The idea would be to try it if it’s good enough to do that, and if I like it, I would just go and buy it off Leder Games website when/if available, and avoid counterfeit BS alltogether.

I have a feeling that Leder Games and also Cole Wehrle are right up my alley, loved Fort, Ahoy, and man do I hope I can get my hands on ARCS…

So yeah, sorry for the tangent!

EDIT: I sure am glad that I got that refund because even with that refund I’m pretty bummed. Had I gotten scammed into losing out 50$ for counterfeit… oh boy.

TLDR: can I play a counterfeit Root copy with an Upgrade Kit and would that equate the intended experience balance wise etc. at our current date (april 2024)?
