What you need to know is Canada is so fucked when it comes to healthcare workers, by 2032 Canada will be lacking 40% of nurses in workforce. What I'm saying, unlikely for anything to happen.

This is happening way too much omg!! My nursing friends are telling me horror stories, I’m currently studying for my NCLEX. These fake nurses are literally so dim. I already have some comments regarding this in my history. It is terrifying and so evil. They buy a fake degree from India and come and do the NCLEX here. Then they start working. At that point, getting rid of them is difficult. They are making dangerous lethal mistakes daily that are common sense. Imagine being so used to scamming you are willing to risk the lives of others! It makes me so upset. Immigrate here by all means, but don’t risk the lives of others in the process, wtf! If your family members get sick now PAY ATTENTION. If you or anyone you know/care about has a nurse that seems to fit this criteria ask for a new nurse!

Report to your director and the cno. So many cases like this popping up. Frustrating that people can come in with fake RN certs but Canadians have to struggle to get into school.

This is why I don’t agree just getting international nurses to work here without a degree from Canada. Because in many countries people just buy degrees. This terrifies me!!

We had same thing at our facility. When we looked up the name on the college site, it listed 50 + individual with the same name. It was ridiculous! And none really matched her name; None indicated that this name was at this particular facility. She was terminated. But was practicing for almost a whole year !!!!!! WHOLE YEAR! She would find ways to get staff to “help her” whenever certain interventions were requested. She couldn’t even use the vital machines without freaking out.

There’s a public registry of nurses that includes all information (including restrictions). If she is not on it, she is fraudulently impersonating a nurse.

This scares the crap outta me. I think reporting it is the best way. Taking care of those who are ill/vulerable/elderly is probably one of the most important jobs you can be tasked with. It's a job I could never do - these people are angels.

That said, I am accredited at my professional organization in my married name. I use my birth surname professionally. Could it be possible? Yes. Either way, better to be safe.

I would also recommend notifying your unit manager or LTC manager so while this is being investigated, this person won’t be able to harm patients in the mean time.

i'm an RN and i've heard from coworkers who were internationally trained that it's WAY easier to start working in ontario as a nurse as opposed to bc (where i currently work). we had someone on our unit a while ago who was internationally trained, and worked in ontario briefly before coming to bc in order to bypass bc's requirements somehow 🥴

What the hell is Canada doing with these foreign credentialed nurses from places with notoriously high amount of scamming? Sorry, I would never trust an international nurse from India. They should have to go through the IEN BScN program. York seems to have a pretty decent one.

Report her and document everything. Down to the timeline of how and when these queries are responded to. If you need to whistleblow the media, do that when it’s appropriate and when you have exhausted all options. This MUST be stamped out.

If you can’t find her on CNO’s “Find a Nurse” there could be a problem - or not. Complete safety reports and let your manager know of your concerns. Ask what the follow up is with the agency. Be factual in your report: AGENCY RN asked for colleague (writer) to administer insulin for her. I asked her why she could not administer the insulin. She did not respond. Agency RN then requested patient to administer their own insulin. patient unable to safely inject insulin to self due to arthritis (or whatever). This resulted in uncertainty in dosage given. Safety issue identified related to practice. Include the RNs name and the agency they work for. Safety reports are not meant to be punitive; they are meant as tools to learn from. Keep it factual and keep submitting them so that there is a theme identified with this nurse. CNO will ask if safety reports have been filed because they need documentation. Your manager or director of nursing is responsible for following up. Also, aside from the safety report, send your manager an email with your concerns. As a nurse, it is your job to flag your concern but it is your manager’s role (or DON) to follow up. Truthfully, it’s their job. They are responsible for every nurse that works on their unit- their own staff AND agency staff. Source: I am a nurse manager and deal with practice concerns regularly. Document, document, document. Honestly, this exact same issue happened at a location close by. You know what finally did it? One of the residents parents complained and had a close relative who’s a journalist who called the Manager and Director and Administrator asking for a quote to fact check an article… then they moved quickly…

As an RN, this is terrifying to me. In my unit, even a new grad RN cannot function at full capacity until they are trained for quite a while. And then it’s at least 5-8 years full-time experience to be able to work all roles in my unit. Being a nurse is not a joke and you can’t just walk in and work.

Let your manager and educator know. Be serious that you don't think they are safe and could lead to a major event. At least the onus to take her off the schedule will be on them.

I experienced this working for a major IT company. Temp workers were hired that supposedly had an IT background. Turns out that there was a lot of forgery of paperwork. It was very noticeable when working. All people from India. This was 15 yrs ago...seems like it's still a problem. What a total piss off!

I doubt the rates you posted since the government made changes to nursing agencies in ontario... Secondly, she might have come in through another province.... Thirdly, if she's practicing in a way that causes safety issues, report it. You can report to the facility ADON, DON, reach out to the agency if you know it, the CNO, the ministry....someone will listen

I'm not shocked by this. You should see who they are hiring in Nunavut. They are so fraudulent that it disgusts me. They have a fake resume and the Canadian government just falls for it, every single time. We absolutely have to do better in this country. This is pretty important to vet (is that the proper spelling in this case? I'm not sure) this person, and make sure they have proper accreditation to do a job as important as RPN. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this lady be on point for a code blue? That's horrifying especially working at a LTC home.

You and your coworkers are doing a very good thing, if management dropped the ball, or just turned a blind eye, they should catch serious shit for it.

This is unfortunately happening alot. I used to work for a PSW/ Caregiver company that specialized in elderly care. The amount of times the psws/ caregivers randomly got nursing jobs in the hospital and would leave us was insane. They didn't have the skillset to say the least. Many of them felt they were too good and prideful to learn basic ADL or personal care techniques. Too much to say on this other than this is my personal experience and I'm sure there are some cases that aren't like this but I am avoiding the hospital to say the least, I have a few friends that are nurses and their experience has been quite similar.

If you don't report, you are on the hook yourself, and can be reprimanded by CNO

You need to reach CNO… and also speak to your manager. I was charge nurse and I had an RN who didn’t know the difference between a hemodialysis line and PD line. Pt needed blood work for a hep drip and she was talking to me about doing blood work from PD line. I immediately reassigned her patients and reported her immediately to our manager and nurse educator, there were too many similar situations with that RN, and I said that they needed to make her learning plan or consider if she would not be a good fit beyond her probation period.

Might be worth reporting to IRCC as well. Deportation would take years but at least it might prevent them from becoming a permanent resident and citizen.

So before any healthcare service or hospital hires a nurse, we do a check with CNO to ensure they are registered and in good standing. Call the DOC of the home and tell them if you are truly concerned.

Did you already checked her name in our find a nurse page? Regardless of when they passed all our credentials from different countries should pop up there.

If not there is a line for the public and a reporting page within the CNO. ( Which might be anonymous? Not sure)

Also i suggest when calling them, dial on, put on speaker phone.. go about your business and someone will pick it up on theor end. Its kinda frustrating especially during and after covid.

Teah, i think Story is kinda sus too, cause if she just got here, even if she took the USRN route then transfer credentials ot still takes a good while to let her and CNO get their ducks in row.

If you work for a hospital do not go to the police. Go to the one of the following departments- legal, bioethics or even Human Resources and report … they will take it from there.

We have to pressure hospitals and institutions themselves with class action lawsuits if needed. Money talks and the only way these fraudulent people get reprimanded is if institutions start to lose a lot of money. I don’t want people to die before it gets to that point, but historically there has had to be a trail of bodies before institutions took things like this seriously. And the healthcare field is more protected from stuff like this too so the bodies will pile higher.

I worked with a consultant who would have had to start uni at 11 for the years to add up given his alleged education and experience, and no difference in education systems could explain. It's took 18 months for him to be caught despite everyone who worked with him raising questions regarding his competence. The consultant company did take responsibility.

Correct me if I'm wrong or missed an info piece here (I don't work in Healthcare and have v limited knowledge) but don't all nurses have a "practice/registration number" associated to them? Who is in charge of hiring and isn't the first question, as obvs as it gets, "are you a nurse? What is your number?" ? Curious as the blame also expands to the hiring party imo.

You're required to report this. Just use your actual name and file a report with the CNO. I've had to do it before and I'm glad I did. Nurses act as witnesses against their coworkers all the time. 

She doesn't even know how to give insulin. It's even if, but when, someone dies because of her.

You're also required by CNO to inform your manager.

Forget about her getting mad at you. Clearly your coworkers are concerned too. I'm concerned that no one has made a complaint yet.

I'm a nurse in Canada.

The process for reporting practice concerns is quick and simple and every licensed nurse knows it.

You report to your manager, DOC, CNL, charge nurse or whoever is your direct supervisor.

Then you call your local nursing college or licensing body and report to them. They will take it from there and initiate an investigation.

What you don't do is ask reddit for advice.

This isn’t your business to pursue beyond reporting your concerns to the appropriate bodies. Don’t google or pursue anything more yourself or you could be PHIA violating.
