I do think if you put that aside and are in it to learn the industry and see if it’s the right fit for you to start a business. It is a good idea. I’ve always been interested in starting a business of my own but could never land on what. Fora gave a low risk way of exploring something I was passionate about and see if I could turn it into something good. I will say until you make a conscious decision to set business goals and make progress towards them, it is hard to make forward progress unless you happen to naturally have a lot of family and friends who like high end travel as well. It’s definitely not easy but if you like travel and are good at understanding the needs of others, and willing to put yourself out there to get the business it’s a good path to pursue.

Im going to break down why if you are ONLY doing fora for personal travel, it is not worth it. I’ve been a fora advisor for over a year so I’ve come along a journey from being someone who started with a similar mindset to someone who is really making a go of it as a career. Let’s say you have a nice healthy travel budget of $50k a year. But of that $50k you spend $20k on business class flights and let’s just lump transportation into here too. Ok still a good budget of $30k, well you are gonna have to eat and do things around town, spa etc, ok so $20k for hotels alone. You make 10% commission. $2000 but you don’t actually get that amount because 70/30 split. So $1400 goes into your pocket but now Uncle Sam wants taxes on that $1400 ok so let’s say you’re down to $1100. But wait, fora has an annual fee of $300 ok now you are down to $800. That’s about 1 night rate at a 5 star hotel. You just earned one free night with a $50k travel budget. (Also before you say oh but think of the tax deductions, that’s not easy either. You’ll need to get an accountant (which also costs money) or do it yourself and risk audit. Also if you have a $50k travel budget, chances are your time is worth more than your money. I’m not sure if the number of hours you put in to get this amount out is gonna net a positive ROI just for your own travels. If you are just wanting perks, find yourself a killer TA that can get you perks with less hassle.

We used to stay at grand residences puerto Morelos when my son was little. We would upgrade to the beachfront rooms. They would pick us up with a car seat in private SUV and would do the check in process in the car. The trip was usually about 30 min. When we got there if your room wasn’t ready, they had another room prepared so our son could nap while we waited for our room. They would also let us have dinner in our suite from any of the restaurants. We got the master suite which came with a large kitchen which is nice for warming up some milk or making a bit of baby food. AI is optional but we always got it for simplicity. The balcony was great and we had a great view when my son would nap. The resort was small, no golf cart needed to get around. I liked that we were a bit further away from Cancun hotel zone but not too far away.

I haven’t used a babysitter at this FS but I have used one at the FS Florence so my husband and I could go out to a dinner date. My son was 6 at the time and it worked well, she just put him to bed mostly. I’ve used this service previously at a Mexican resort not, FS also had a good experience. It was nice because it was one of the ladies at the kids club so my son was already familiar with her.

I just booked a friend there off season 1500 euro a night lowest category room. High season is 3000 euro a night. If you double up and don’t mind going over on food and only do one night. Might work.

Dreams playa mujeres might fit the bill. They have smaller splash pad/water park and kids club. Keep in mind most kids clubs don’t allow children under 4 in without adult supervision.

What about Terranea in Palos Verdes?

I would take a look at other options. Maybe check out dreams playa mujeres. The property has not been kept up as well and service will struggle if it’s a busy time like during school holidays. Everything looked fine until upon closer inspection. Our room you could see rust and mirror cracks in the bathroom. The outside lounger cushion had a big rip in it. The second room the outside lounger had a big stain. We went during Christmas one year and food was bad-average. If you do go, upgrade to excellence club so you get access to additional restaurants and a special section of beach. We would have trouble finding spots at the normal area. I would imagine this is an issue at most resorts in the area during Christmas time though so upgrade was worth it.

Mia Reef in Isla mujeres has a very nice beach and calm waters but it’s not very luxurious. Worth checking out for the beach though. You fly into Cancun and take a ferry to the island.

There are kids flying business class all the time. You will be fine. I think there is just this perception but once you start noticing, there are definitely families in first class and business class.

Just FYI on palace resorts (moon palace, beach palace, etc), I find their food not the best. They prioritize appearance over flavor. I echo those that suggest hotel xcaret if food is a priority and things to do.

If you plan on eating on site at a 5 star resort, that might cover dinner no drinks if you are set on having an entree and share an appetizer with taxes and tip included. If you go off site for lunch and get complementary breakfast, I would budget another $50 a day just to be safe or add another $100 a day if you plan on spending more on food at the resort.

Take a look at Belize. Snorkeling is great and it’s more affordable.

Have you looked into Amanpulo in the Philippines? That could be a good alternate Aman.

I also thought the same about Singapore airlines food. I’ve flown on Qatar and Emirates and the food is definitely better on their business class flights.

What about Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico (no passport required)? I’m seeing starting rates under $500/night and you can probably upgrade to a suite if your budget allows. I can get free breakfast, upgrades and $100 credit add if you’d like.

I get this. But there are so many travel advisors out there that chances are there are some that may also have a good palette. I think that good food like luxury are both very subjective and what one person considers being a “foodie” is not the same as another. Tastes are also very personal. I think OP is tired of personally digging through websites and watching documentaries. If they could find someone who travels for food like they do, it would be helpful to have that person recommend and book their travels.

I just returned from Singapore and I was honestly a little underwhelmed. Partly because I went into it with such high extra-expectations. It felt a little bit like Vegas on steroids for good food. Like you can find almost every famous chef restaurant and almost any kind of food. Everything was good but not mind blowing. I honestly thought Tokyo was better for food.

I'm seeing some good options for Hyatt Ziva cancun (if your child likes dolphins), Paradisus Playa Del Carmen, Royalton Splash (if your child likes large water parks, trampoline park, laser tag) all are right around $2k (+/- $200) with flights and hotels for your dates.

This is the best advice. We went right after our wedding for a relaxing honeymoon for 10 nights and still were feeling the stress from the wedding. We went back 6 months later for 4 nights and had a much better time. This is what we called our real honeymoon. Even though both were relaxing beach vacations it was hard to truly relax right after the wedding. I’d either suggest you plan 2 vacations or wait 6 months and do your honeymoon.

Are you guys jimmy and Chelsea from love is blind? J/k of course. Why would she be worried people in a city you are not from would ask why you are out without your newlywed wife. Literally no one will know either of you or know you are newlyweds but don’t use this logic with your fiancée I doubt it will go in a positive direction. I would not suggest you sneak out though if you know she will be upset. It’s a great way of ruining the honeymoon. Maybe find ways to relax in the room or suggest some activities. She may be too stressed planning the wedding right now to think about what she wants to do on the honeymoon. I would just keep your expectations low on your ability to go out alone and think of other ways to enjoy your vacation.

Definitely something to consider is Maldives will be in the tail end of monsoon season. This means probably half your days will be rainy but other half will be sunny. Pro is pricing will be the lowest and it’s about half the normal price when you travel during this time. It would be cool to do both or if you want to be in Maldives, stay at cheval blanc and you get the French ambience with the tropical beaches. I can say the food at cheval blanc is 🧑‍🍳💋 and they will cater to your every whim. My husband mentioned he liked Indian food and they got their Indian chef to cook us a special dinner that was the best Indian food we’ve ever had! Their French restaurant was also fantastic for a fine dining tasting menu experience.

I would suggest you work with a travel advisor you vibe with. You have a healthy budget that can go a long way with someone good, they can help you plan something epic and it may cost you the same as planning it yourself since they will get commission from the hotels and not charge you anything additional. It’s going to save you so much time than trying to research everything yourself or crowdsource the info.

It could have been when I was looking too but I agree if those prices definitely worth the upgrade to Aman.
