Hi everyone, Going to Chania in September for 7 nights and are renting a car from the airport with which we are planning to visit most of the popular beaches out west mentioned here. I am seeing a lot of attractive hotels in the city center but unfortunately I believe we’ll have a hard time with parking. Is it wise to lean more towards the outskirts (15-20 min walk away from city center)? Are their general areas that are preferable? Nea Chora side? South of old town? East of old town? We are not into clubbing. Just want to relax and eat good. Thank you.

Has anyone ever taken a private transfer or taxi from Heraklion to Chania?

The way the ferries are working out we’d either arrive in Heraklion at 6am or at 5pm (we’d rather not stay the night) and we want to avoid making that drive while fatigued.

Did you book ahead of time or just asked a cab upon arrival?

Is a car rental necessary in Milos? We will be staying for four nights in Adamas. We also heard ATVs are useful.

What is the best kind of car to rent in Crete? We will be doing all the classic beaches from Chania. Sedan, SUV?

We are currently hesitating between two ferry option between Milos and Heraklion in September.

Option 1: Ferry depart Milos at 11:50am, 2 hour ride to Santorini, 1 hour layaway, 2 hours to Heraklion, arrive at 16:50. Stay the night in Heraklion. Wake up, go to Knossos, then make way to Chania. My concern here is that we lose a day due to the mid day ferry and have to stay a single night in Heraklion.

Option 2: Ferry departs Milos at 1am. Straight 5 hour ferry to Heraklion. Arrive at 6am. Drive to Knossos and then to Chania. No overnight stay in Heraklion. Concerned about overnight ferry, straight 5 hour trip and having to arrive in Heraklion at 6am having to drive after a questionnable night.

Boyfriend and I are travelling to Greece this September for a 2 week vacation for the 1st time. I am half greek so my speaking proficiency is pretty decent.

Our goals for this trip are to do a lot of beaches and relaxing, and most importantly of all, eat very well. We are not interested in night life/clubs.

Athens (2 nights) - We plan to arrive in Athens and take the metro or cab from the airport to a hotel in Plaka or by Syntagma square. We will spend the 2 days exploring and doing all the museums and sites by the Acropolis.

We then want to ferry and spend 3 nights in Milos. Places to stay and things to do are welcome.

Crete (we will rent a car) - From Milos, we will ferry to Heraklion and spend 1 night so that can visit Knossos and a beach down south. Then we will drive and spend the rest of our time in Chania. We will be driving to different beaches and hiking spots every day. Again, any beaches, activities, restaurants, hotels are welcome.

We will fly back from Chania to Athens and head back home at the of our 2 week trek.

As a reminder, we want to relax on nice beaches and eat great food with the locals.

Does this sound like a good initerary? What are some good areas to stay in Milos, Heraklion and Chania? Any restaurant recommendations to eat with the locals?
