Car Rental in Milos/Crete

Hi everyone,

Is a car rental necessary in Milos? We will be staying for four nights in Adamas. We also heard ATVs are useful.

What is the best kind of car to rent in Crete? We will be doing all the classic beaches from Chania. Sedan, SUV?

Edit: also, when looking to rent a car on bookings.com, there is always a full insurance protection offered for an additional $100, should I take this or is it a scam?

Car prob not necessary if only staying 4 nights . Bus is pretty good .

Can’t ever recommend atv due to how dangerous they are , how road accident rate is very high in Greece & how many people i know who have been injured.

Crete smallest i’ve has is a Toyota argo. It’s was fine for the Chania to south side beaches . Never rented SUV in Crete , over 25 yrs of going , some yrs for 5+ weeks. Not necessary

Cretan driving can be a bit daunting for a lot of people as many rules of the road are ignored , causing a lot of accidents & sadly deaths

Is there anything I can do as a driver to avoid these difficulties driving in Crete? I know the obvious answer is to not drive but this doesn’t seem like a solution…neither does getting in the car and praying I don’t die today driving.

Be extremely alert when driving . Don’t drive if tired or under any i influence .

Overall we all know accidents can happen in cars but we do it anyways ,just be very careful and drive defensively. If someone is trying to be stupid and tail gate , honk , pull aside let them pass

Be extra careful around motor bikes they seriously drive with the force and have even more disregard for safety and rules ( going up wrong way on road , driving thru red lights , passing on left even if no lane , etc)

Be careful on bend , drivers will often pass on double solid line even on a curve . They use the hard paved shoulder as an extra lane , dangerous if someone is actually stopped in it around a bend

Where you see the memorials that the Greeks have put up for their loves ones , be extra careful

Make sure you have good insurance in case

After all these warnings i have to say I drove in Greece ( Athens & islands incl Crete with no accidents at all ) was freaked out when i first started even though I had over 20 yrs of driving experience. And when i mean drive , i was having to do 120km a day minimum
