This is actually a natural reaction from the Turkeys. If a turkey hears a gobble (or something close enough it perceives as another turkey gobbling), every single one in ear shot will respond and try to gobble louder. i have tested this at a local petting zoo by playing a youbtube video of a turkey on my phone and set the entire enclosure off. works every time.

Could someone help diagnosxe what might have been wrong with my laptop? (or still might be)Open | Hardware

OK, so this is a wierd one.

I have a UK MSI GE62VR 7RF Gaming Laptop, bought new exactly 3 years ago last week. The laptop was bought as a basic VR machine to run a then new Oculus Rift. (pls no hate about getting a gaming laptop, i have a proper rig also and it was bought at the time i was living in a tiny flat)

Anyway, this was my main gamer for about a year and a half with no problems at all, then i moved into a house and built my current rig so fell out of use almost completely.

Since then, steadily, the laptop would not boot. It would power on with a black screen and go no further. Completely black as it not on, not powered but showing black. It would happen sporadically at first, say 10% of the time and a simple hold power would fix it. Then, it would start happening more and more frequently until one time it just wouldnt do anything else.

I managed to get it on once to try a format and it didnt work, so i then plugged it into a monitor aand i found then that it was booting up every time, but the onboard intel graphics card wasnt being recognised whatsoever (not even showing in devices list). I would assume it was broken, but once in a blue moon it would come on and work fine so it must be operationally OK.

At that point i kinda gave up on it, and put it on top of a wardrobe on which it stayed for about a year. In this period it fell off the wardrobe and stuck a carpet at about 8 ft. and went back up for another couple of months. I had decided to use it as a spaare work from home desktop recently as it still worked with a monitor and sthe battery had completely discharged (like 0%, neds half an hour to show its even charging dead).

aaaaannnnnnnnd now the laptop works perfectly. Like nothing was ever wrong perfectly. Infact, it even boots up much much quicker than it used (and its definately booting from power off, not hibernate. ive checked multiple times) I just don't get it.

What happened to it? Any Ideas? Id like to know because im obviously paranoid its gonna happen again and if it does id like to try and get it working again. Ive done nothing to it at all that i havent mentioned, except install a bunch of windows and nvidia updates that were obviously released whilst the laptop was off.

Pictures can be provided if needed. Iv tagged as hardwware because at least to me its presenting as a hardware problem. let me know if i need to change.

Anyone know much about the CAA and drone regulations when starting up a drone related business?Consumer

Good day all,

I and another have recently decided to start up a business that amongst other related hobbies, will include flying FPV Racing Drones. As these are quite new ive been getting rather frustrated trying to make sense of the current laws and rules regarding flying them. I have looked at the CAA website until my eyes have gone raw and from what i can gather, it is required for someone to apply for a "flyers licence" before being able to start a business where drones are in flight.

However, from the way everything is described, these appear to be aimed primarily at drones that are capable of long range/heingt in their flights (Ala, the gatwick airport saga) which is fair enough, but does anyone know how this applies to small handheld drones that are only capable of ranges of a few meters?

It may be worth pointing out that these drones are for both indoor and outdoor flying but ideally our location will be outdoor (under a gazebo in an ideal situation) which gives you an idea of their range and capability.

We are based in England.

(BONUS QUESTION: if anyone knows a bit about how many FPV drones can be operated in one space at one time that would also be useful as i can't seem to find much info on that either but ive been told from some sort-of realiable sources it can only be 4 maximum at one time)

Again. Many thanks for the insight. Are you sure the guns work with hotd2? We happen to have o hotd2 machine....

thanks for your reply..... of course i waas hoping for better news but let me ask another question if i may....

would this work?

https://na.suzohapp.com/products/accessories/96-2300-10?fbclid=IwAR2aSvqCwA1vjuD1TXXEsguE-AIfLE4tOoRbaXfi4DOOVjAkTAzshovc_XI

Obviously its not the official replacement but from what i can tell on the page it claims to support lost world and is, for all i can tell, a complete unit (as in, not just a shell requiring internals etc). It seems a lot cheaper than the official replacement and therefore a lot better for us in general but its still quite a lot "to take a punt on".

Anyone know much about the SEGA Jurassic Lost world cab? We are trying to restore one to working order

Hello All,

We have recently acquired a very run down lost world cab for a small arcade we run, and have managed to mostly get it working. However, the player 1 gun is in very rough shape (pretty much smashed to bits but ultimately works) and the player 2 gun is just missing entirely (wires and all). Unfortunately, this arcade is more of a preservation than profit job so we have nowhere near enough money to buy a replacement gun. Does anyone know of the cheapest method to get this going? I have seen a few possible options;-

1) i am told a sega saturn light gun is very similar internally, is it possible to convert?

2) would a light gun from a House of the Dead 1 cabinet work? it seems the two cabinets can easily be converted to and from each other so im assuming the guns are potentially interchangeable too?

3) converting any other type of gun? Is a modern raplacement viable such as an aimtrak?

4) is it possible to literally build one from scratch? we have a replacement light gun housing but thats it.

We're not very electronically minded unfortunately, i have basic soldering skills and access to a 3D printer but thats about it. Is there anyone that can help?

Thanks for the replies, I'll have a look for a suitable donor cable.

For the record, I already bought a cheap replacement off Amazon, it's just that an official replacement is 70quid apparently and for the sake of that it's worth a repair I think

Is it possible to repair this Type-C Chromebook charger?

https://imgur.com/a/fmQghnR

It appears my lovely little prick of a dog has decided to chew the very end of my chromebook charger, and effectively destroyed it. He's done this with a few cables and i usually just splice them back together but after ive cut this charger it appears to only have 3 wires which are different colours to the usual ones. Black, white and blue. My Donor cable has the usual black white red green. Is this cable repairable at all?

Infuriatingly, both the chromebook and the charger have writing so increidbly small that even the photos ive taken on a macro lens arent ligible to me, and the chromebook itself doesnt have a model number displayed anywhere else. I can tell you its a 14" x360 HP Nami chromebook, but thats about it. The charger i THINK is a 65W, but again i cant make out any of the details.

It was originally meant to be blue, and my blue lights are still in transit so they will be getting swapped out when they arrive.

i did give it a little clean but to be honest i thought it all looked pristine. I checked in all the nooks and crannies and theres nothing in there at all.

Sticky Buttons

I've had my GPi case for about a week and all of a suddent the B and A buttons are super sticky, the B button being worse. Ive had it to bits thinking some gunk has jsut gotten in but it looks pristine in there. After reassembling its back to being jsut as sticky. Anyone have any idea what the cause could be?

Secondary to this, is there anywhere i can get some new buttons/silicone pads for it incase its those that are faulty?

I make and sell these in the UK. I generally dont post abroad but if you want to build your own I can offer advice.

I'd also like to point out that I think the atganes consoles are complete garbage. Including the Atari. They're pretty much only there because they exist and have a place in the collection. They'll be getting switched out the second the proper mini classic versions come out even if they are garbage too. And that's coming from me who, against general popular opinion, actually likes the PlayStation Classic.

If I want to play actual Atari or sega games, they're all in complete connections on the Retropie anyway, so I use that. I didn't realise until after I'd set it up that the atganes mega drive has an SD card slot, which I need to do some research on and see if it can be used to play ROMs from. If it can then the system will go up I'm my opinion, but still not enough to justify the £80 I spent on it if one actually wants to use it for playing sega games.

I'd say they are slightly more fragile than a 3ds XL. They're pretty much a rip off design wise except the hinge is a bit cheaper and looser. However, mine came packaged with a hard rubber case (that wasn't advertised as doing so) but mine was a first model so I'm unsure if the newer ones do. Worst case they don't any standard 3ds case would fit anyway and they aren't particularly expensive.

Well, personally, my answer is yes given they have recently come down in price. It depends really what place you want it to take.

Is it a complete replacement for a C64? not at all. The included joystick has enough input lag for you to notice a difference and given the extremely precise nature of games of that era, it just doesn't cut it. Plus £25 for a player 2 isn't great. However, there are plenty of games that don't require extreme precision (see: Deflektor, one of the included games) that this is perfectly fine for. Which brings me to my next point. The Games.

The included games are not representative of the best the system has to offer, which i assume to be the result of not being able to licence games this old. However, where this consoles shines is a recent firmware update that will allow the system to play ROMs directly from a USB stick. Its primative, as the menus can only read about a hundred or so games per folder so if you have complete ROM collections, youll have to massively prune them down to the essentials or the menus wont show them. However, if you can be bothered with the work of firmware upgrading (stupidly simple and takes 30 seconds) and organised your roms properly (not difficult, just time consuming) then this unit is well worth the money.

There are a few niggles regarding keyboard inputs as you have to select keys from a menu. Which means if your game requires a keyboard then you have to take up a USB slot with a USB keyboard. Means two player games will need a USB hub if you want a keyboard plugged in along with 2 controllers.

My input as a collector of retro handhelds reproduction and original, my opinion is as follows; -

1) buy an old GBA - cheap enough, although the decent games are getting expensive (as expensive as the console itself in the UK). Screen im dim as hell and not really playable by todays standards. Where your kid might be used to modern screens on portable electronics the old GBA wont cut it. Choices there are either fit an AGA screen mod or buy one pre modded, but this puts up the price considerably.

2) a GPD XD. most expensive option, and probably the best. basically a fairly powerful android tablet in the form factor of a 3ds XL. Will emulate everything up to PS1 and modern andoird games, emulators done by android app emulators. bonus is that it has built in functionality to map the buttons to screen presses so it even allows you to play touch screen only games with said buttons. comes in different GB versions (16/32/64 etc) but all are expandable by microSD and will take up to at least 64GB cards so it can carry pretty much full collections of every console desired. This also increases the cost somewhat as well as the slight costs of the proper emulators on the google store (generally £2-3 each).

3) Building a handheld - pretty much a no. Unless you're very comfortable constructing micro-electronics then i wouldnt go here. I can generally build small electronic devices and i fell flat on my face when attempting this myself. Option is to buy pre built but these generally come around the same price as the GPD XD and thats a way better option.

4) ODROID GO - Sort of come under the building a handheld option, but is limited to NES, Game Gear, Master System, Gameboy and Gameboy Colour. (plus a few others in upcoming firmware). While technically this is building your own console, the kit that you get (for around £40) is so easy to build it might as well be a lego set. takes about 30 minutes without even reading the instructions and half that if you watch a youtube video guide. I have photos of mine if you wish to see a built version. Honestly though, these things get rave reviews but ive found the software to not work very well at all, and it not really been able to use it properly. I fully expect this to be rectified in future firmware updates as its still a very new device. Main downside of this however is that there is no headphone socket, and device volume is controlled by software (no hardware button/wheel to change volume). Expect noisy as hell car journeys or your kid getting used to classic handhelds silently.

Personally, id also look at buying a second hand DS Lite. They are so cheap these days you can pick them up for as low as £5 if you look on facebook market (at least round here) and they have the added bonus of having a GBA slot, while the screen is way brighters and actually playable. I'd use a cheap R4 cartridge/flash cartridge from gearbest or other available chinese electronic website to get your homebrew emulators on there. Plus the original DS lites were kid friendly by design and can take a beating, plus super cheap to replace if the need be.

Console list from left to right;-

Top Shelf - Neo Geo Mini International Edition, Commodore 64 Mini.

Middle Shelf - NES Mini Classic, SNES Mini Classic, PlayStation Classic, Retropie Arcade Attract Mode in NESPi case.

Lower Shelf - Atari Flashback 8 Gold HD, Recreated ZX Spectrum (used as a Bluetooth keyboard to control the Retropie Arcade, Sega Mega Drive Flashback HD.

Original boxes all at the bottom partially to look good but mainly to hide the fire hazard of wires it takes to wire and power 7 HDMI devices to a monitor with only two HDMI inputs.

All figures on the table are 3D printed and "painted" by myself (read: im shit at painting). I'm looking for ideas on how i can improve the look of this setup.

Table is made with 2x IKEA Lack TV tables (£9 each) screwed together as you see, and attatched together with small metal brackets. I made this table before i had the 3D printer, so i'm aware i can print out proper connecting brackets for LACK Table legs (ive made an enclsoure for my printer this way). I'm not planning on taking it apart just to replace with flimsier printed brackets unless someone can present a much cooler way to lash it together.

I wish. Sadly this has been a chain of refunds, as opposed to just buying four printers

Serious Question..... Are MP Selects really bad?

i know this is probably not the place to ask this given its a collection of people who actually like their printers but im hoping the collective experience is enough for a serious answer.

Are these printers really bad? Do they commonly have a high rate of failure? I ask because i have bought not one but FOUR of these printers from amazon, 2 of them have been dead on arrival (both would not heat up the hotend), one the extruder would not move and the last (my first) ran for two days and then would not heat up with a sensor failed message. I feel i'm restricted to this printer because its the only reasonably priced one that comes ready built. I cant build a kit myself (even part built) because of a disability and i don't earn much so im not able to buy a more expensive one.

Should i just stop trying to run one of these printers?

well, it didnt. I tried replacing the nozzle and it had no effect. I did try and manually spin the fan using the control menu on the printer and when it sped up, it crashed the printer and made it restart. It also made the other fan start making grinding noises. I would have liked to fix it myself and learneda little more about the whole thing but ive decided that this seems to be a fairly large issue that shouldnt happen two days after use, regardless of how much it was used. so its its now in the box getting returned.

thanks for your time and effort though, it really is appreciated.

Is this a common issue though? I have to admit I'm being a bit disenchanted with the whole thing seeing as this is the second printer I've had that ran into issues within two days. The first was a monoprice mini select v2 but thankfully that came built and was a lot easier to return......this one will be a right pain.

There doesn't seem to be any error messages. The hotend seems to be the same as it was, printing at 200C. It doesn't seem to have changed at all since the error and heats up to the same point as quick as it used to.

Also thank you for helping. It came with a spare nozzle so I'll look up a video on how to change that when I get in from work. Is this a.common type of thing to happen after running an (albeit brand new) printer almost non stop for two days?
