Anyone know much about the SEGA Jurassic Lost world cab? We are trying to restore one to working order

Hello All,

We have recently acquired a very run down lost world cab for a small arcade we run, and have managed to mostly get it working. However, the player 1 gun is in very rough shape (pretty much smashed to bits but ultimately works) and the player 2 gun is just missing entirely (wires and all). Unfortunately, this arcade is more of a preservation than profit job so we have nowhere near enough money to buy a replacement gun. Does anyone know of the cheapest method to get this going? I have seen a few possible options;-

1) i am told a sega saturn light gun is very similar internally, is it possible to convert?

2) would a light gun from a House of the Dead 1 cabinet work? it seems the two cabinets can easily be converted to and from each other so im assuming the guns are potentially interchangeable too?

3) converting any other type of gun? Is a modern raplacement viable such as an aimtrak?

4) is it possible to literally build one from scratch? we have a replacement light gun housing but thats it.

We're not very electronically minded unfortunately, i have basic soldering skills and access to a 3D printer but thats about it. Is there anyone that can help?

1) Nope. These guns are IR cameras that work with IR lEDs located around the monitor. The Sega Saturn Stunner is the same tech as the NES zapper or any other lightguns made to work exclusively with CRT monitors.

2) Maybe? Almost certainly not. You're probably thinking of House of the Dead II. 1 and 2 used similar but incompatible guns.

3) No. It really is that final. Just no.

The issue is that all the parts of the gun are as close to custom made as you can get without it being a one-off. Low run parts that were only used on a handful of machines. Your best bet is to scour eBay and hope you get lucky.

Obviously its not the official replacement but from what i can tell on the page it claims to support lost world and is, for all i can tell, a complete unit (as in, not just a shell requiring internals etc). It seems a lot cheaper than the official replacement and therefore a lot better for us in general but its still quite a lot "to take a punt on".

Edit: looking closer, I think they're referring to some other game, though I'm not sure. They say "Jurassic Park", no mention of "Lost World". Proceed with caution. They also don't mention House of the Dead II, which if this gun works in Lost World, it should work in House of the Dead II.
