If you prefer, you could get "cream-filled" if you know what I mean
Not the kind of raise they’re looking for, I don’t think.
Well played
Betcha dollars to donuts it’s not acceptable as rental payment. This isn’t a raise at all.
Wait, was the fix the doughnuts or were they apologising that you got doughnuts and was going to actually fix the issue and get you the raise?
I think the fix was him saying sorry and bringing in donuts…. lol sorrys don’t seem to spend well at the grocery store though
Jesus Christ. The thought process of some folks.
Your immediate supervisor doesn’t always have a say in what raise you get. It seems in this situation, the tone of the text message was joking about small raises and the temp boss said sorry and he’ll fix it… with donuts as a joke.
Wouldn’t surprise me that the donuts came out of the bosses’ product, as well.
I'm the lowest tier of management... one step above the engineers I manage. I get to divide up the compensation pool for raises among my team however I see fit. However, I have literally zero influence in the size of that pool. Last year I was given enough to provide an average of 3% for each of my team members but that meant that if I wanted to give one guy 4% then someone else was getting 2%. If they give me no money in the pool everyone gets to split $0.00 evenly and I have no ability to do anything about it.
yeah this is the way it works at my job. they give him a fixed amount for raises and he has to ration it out like we’re in the damn apocalypse. i kinda feel bad for him, cuz he gets all the pushback from the employees for being the messenger.
Edit - I went on a rant. My main point was. Sometimes there will be things out of a lower/middle managers hands no matter how hard they fight for you. I’ve paid out of my own pocket for lunches and Christmas gifts because the company couldn’t be assed and I was not ok with not showing any appreciation at all. Sometimes a dozen donuts may seem shitty…but sometimes that’s all we can do. Sometimes letting the crew go early, and other just quality of life things, while paying the full day. Some of us try where we can. I did end up leaving the corporate world as a whole because I refuse to be forced to look someone in the eyes and terminate them from no wrong doing of their own. It’s fucking soul crushing. Never again. I’m rambling here again but anyway. HAPPY TUESDAY
So, the only way I think this is ‘acceptable’ in any form is a situation I was in a bit ago. One of my lead guys kicked fucking ass on a job and essentially ran it on the site level. Everybody was happy. Client was happy. All in all, a successful project over the course of 4 months.
Well, I advocated for a decent raise for him trying to give him a kudos and raise before Christmas. Mind you I managed the branch but I still had to go through head office for that request. Denied. Why? ‘What would the other techs say if they find out he’s making xyz more than them? It would be ….’ Blah blah blah.
So come review time I again push for double what they were planning to give as a raise. God damn it wasn’t even keeping up with inflation and at least what I suggested would be that +. Cause you know…he did what we always talk about being rewarded and is supposed to be any incentive whatsoever to work…at all? Denied. Again.
So after review, when we get a chance to talk one on one without HR and shit. He voiced his disappointment, thinking the project success would have gotten him more compensation….so you know what? I showed him the fucking emails. I am not going to be the face of the cold hearted, inhumane, greedy influenced decisions. They have a right to know what these c suite fucks think about you busting your ass for…more work without additional pay.
That, among oh so many others, is what’s really flipped that switch. Fuck these companies that couldn’t care less about the real humans performing the god damn labour they benefit from.
Hope you offered to be a reference for his inevitable job search
Absolutely, I made sure they all know they can use me as one.
Try to pay for groceries with a donut.
I'm going to start printing out the emails our ceo sends us telling us how great the company is doing and how wonderful we are, then I'm going to mail that to my utilities company. "Dear electric co. in lieu of me getting an actual raise this year, please accept these 10 emails full of empty, meaningless platitudes that my boss thinks I can pay bills with."
Looks to me like they bought a dozen but you only got 11
Yeah that was the bosses cut… smh
Not sure what all that 4-6% raise a year talk was in my offer letter 8 yrs ago. I have never seen one in that range.
That was talk about the 4-6% raise in Cost of Living each year.
We got a 2% raise, which doesn't even cover my health care premium increase, much less the increase we had on rent, car insurance (since they make us commute despite being able to do fully remote), or groceries/ utilities/ fuel.
But my boss got a sizeable raise in addition to their larger shareholder dividend!
I've been at my current workplace for just over 2 years. Year 1 I got a 39 cent raise, this last year I got 0. I did get offered a promotion though... for no raise.
Sounds like the place I worked at before. They kept adding to the work load and "if you could manage" they would give you a raise, but the work kept coming and raises never did.
"Let's see how much we can get out of this person until they quit, then hire someone cheaper". All these places are the fkn same. I turned down the promotion then they gave it to someone brand new for less money than I already make. I'm training my supervisor. Haven't told him yet, but I plan to.
Wait they actually put that in writing?
If it's in your offer letter I would push the issue.
I’m not trying to be a dick, just letting you know whats out there - my company gives 10% raises every year.
Not even Krispy Kreme but the place that literally got rid of the word donut from their name.
Krispy Kreme is practically, confectionarily, and morally the worst chain donut.
If we're going by donut quality dunkin is at the bottom, if we're going how they treat their people. I haven't heard too much about it, but if the workers are being treated like shit then fuck'em
Dunkin might treat their folks like shit but at least it doesn't taste like glazed ass.
Dunkin is literally white bread with dried up cream at the top. That shit could be out all day. Krispy Kreme if the light is on the donuts are fresh out of the oven.
And they will still taste like hot fucking ass. I eat like one donut a year and it can be from literally anywhere except KK.
Are you by any chance a police officer?
lol 😂 hell no
Forget donuts. Eat the rich!
I’ll typically leave them there uneaten, just on principle.
Is your boss the bad guy or is he trying to make up for his bosses being shitty by buying donuts with his own money I wonder
I’m so angry that not only do I not get adequate compensation, but my work has never once given us free donuts or pizza, either.
That strawberry frosted still available?
Too bad you can't use doughnuts to pay the bills!
Will there be a pizza party too later?
Who’s the asshole who ruined my raise with sprinkles.
The frosting at MA Dunkin's is pathetic, yours look good.
Dunkin used to be great like 20 years ago. It tastes awful the last 3 times I've had it in the last decade. Like they don't even make the donuts fresh or something.
They don't make them in store anymore. Regional locations do.
Welp, that explains it.
i saw the image and the text and thought you were celebrating with donuts... then i saw the second image and lost my smile
That’s not a raise, that’s diabetes.
They even got one for Homer Simpson, the pink one with sprinkles is his favorite if I remember correctly.
Meanwhile I just initiated a guy into the union, he went from $25 an hour to 46ish and legit cried in my office when I handed him his first paystub.
I feel like we've become overly anti-pastrist in this sub.
Jesus Christ.
“And how will you be paying, Sir?”
“With my raise!”
tosses a handful of doughnuts onto the table
God damn not even a dozen donuts
Tell them you’re gluten intolerant.
Sir, I contacted the mortgage company and they said they don't accept donuts for payment.
I just got my raise yesterday, 3.6%. I’m a top performer, only 250 out of 3000 employees get this much. 4% for everyone sounds nice lol
Yeah, raising your blood sugar
Oh cool which donut is my money in
Well perhaps I’ll do 4-6% less work this year to compensate for wage decrease.
No maple bars or apple fritters, GTFO!
your raise, its glazed!
