For context, I shot myself in the head with a crossbow. Somehow survived, surgeon said it was like God guided the bolt himself cause it was millimeters away from so many important areas. But, now my memory is a little funky. I wake up most mornings and don't remember who I am, so I look around my room and all the reminders I've set up slowly start jogging my memory again. Usually after a minute or two I'll remember who I am, but sometimes it'll take a few (like 10 mins or so, rough guestimate).
If it's one of the mornings where I remember who I am then I reach behind my legs and pet my cat. Then she'll come cuddle into my chest and arms.
Say good morning to my SO. She knows I have trouble getting to sleep. And therefore with waking up. She hands me a coffee and warns me she’ll put the lights on, so I can get awake smoothly.
Wake up, stretch, bathroom to pee, feed the cats, feed the birds, prep Daughter’s school lunch, feed Daughter breakfast while sharing funny Reddit videos from yesterday, send Daughter to school.
I give my pup all the scratches, ask him how he slept, tell him how I slept, and wish him a good morning. I refill his food and water bowls, and give him a little treat.
Then he goes out back to scream at the wind and cause a ruckus.
First thing is take a shit. Then I drink a protein/creatine shake, Monday/Wednesday/Friday I go to the gym for like an hour, get home, shower eat something small, then get ready for work.
Somehow mustering up the energy, courage, and motivation to take on the day and meet every expectation that is required of me whether it’s personal matters, work stuff, relationship stuff, social, etc.
Make sure to compliment my wife, and let her know i love her. I've been doing it every single morning for 13 years. We wake up at the same time and always spend a few minutes cuddling before we get up, and that's when I'll whisper nice things in her ear. How happy I feel to wake up next to her, that she's the true love of my life, how she always looks so beautiful first thing in the morning. Always different compliments and such.
Easily the best habit I've picked up that has benefitted my marriage. It's important to make sure she knows why she chooses you every day.
Wake up. Take a shit. Get out of bed.
