Thanks!

Mind explaining what you mean by "Adding another battery could push it over that limit.". It seems that would only be the case if, say, I had a 200ah bank, and added a 100ah battery, and then drew my max power, right?

You might wanna check out some charts or maybe consult an electrician just to be on the safe side. Better safe than sorry, right?

that's what I did and needed clarification lol. I know that my load will be <300 amps, and if I have a 300 amp fuse, I think i'll be ok!!

You need to size for the max 12V draw (from fuse block or bus bars) or the inverter

Perfect, that's what i intuitively thought, but I just needed to double check! I'll be using a victron lynx distributor, so I think i'll be good there (with the appropriate load fuse).

I totally get that upping the voltage is "better", but it's not in the cards for my van atm. Especially because I don't want to deal with 24/48V alternator charging.

It's one massive battery, yeah. https://www.epochbatteries.com/products/12v-460ah-lifepo4-battery-ip67-heated-bluetooth-victron-comms

And the "Max Continuous Discharge Amps: 300A"

Regarding charging, totally get that. Right now I have 30a alternator charging, solar, and ac input with a victron multiplus. I also have a lightweight inverter generator, but I really don't want to lug that around, if I can help it. My daily draw is not large, but this was just a double check that I could increase my capacity if I found that I needed more power for remote work. I'd definitely consider adding another battery, and wiring to get 24V. But if my load stayed the same, I don't quite see the benefit.

For ref, my load at the moment is just: 12v lights, 12v fridge, 12v phone, 12v fan.

I'll be building it out for longer remote work stints, so will be adding starlink and more laptop work. I'd like to add an induction cooktop so I don't have to worry about propane too.

No tv, induction, ac, and heater makes things a lot more simple for load.

Hey, thanks for your answer, I appreciate you taking the time.

Simple question about wire sizes

Hey all,

I have a, 12v * 460amp = 5520 w, system.

My largest (and ground) wire is 4/0. Looking at the AWG table, the max current is 302amps.

That’s not rated to the max current of your system, right? It’s rated to the draw?

So I could draw up to 302*12= 3624w?

Just wondering how safe it would be to add another 460ah battery, to 960 amps.

Thanks!

2 or even 3 kwh capacity seems rather low to ensure an AC unit running for entire work day.

Assuming that AC model, here's the power consumption:

24V Model: 1,200W
12V Model: 960W

Basically 2 or 3 hours of AC time.

Yeah tbh scary... I used to get flooded, and it would make me feel good about quitting if I ever needed to. Now it's a bit more daunting.

Didn't mean to imply it wasn't trainable, of course it is. But it also doesn't mean that it's "a owner who seldom plays games and offers their dog treats and the occasional pet"

Some dogs may be able to be trained to prefer an owner around playing with other dogs. Some may NEVER get there. To imply it's a bad owner is just not necessarily true.

What in the world?? That doesn’t make any sense. It’s just the dog’s personality, or they’re nervous to play with dogs, or nervous of the situation.

Im accomplishing this with furring strips, 3/4" plywood "wall", and then a 3/4" plywood cutout with inlays for beams. Could go with steel tubing, like in the video. Could go with 2x4 connected to the side with a joist hanger (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Simpson-Strong-Tie-LUS-ZMAX-Galvanized-Face-Mount-Joist-Hanger-for-2x6-Nominal-Lumber-LUS26Z/100375105)

See my post for incomplete furring strips: https://www.reddit.com/user/tictacotictaco/comments/1cjd2of/van_progress/

and

See this video:

Another option: https://faroutride.com/platform-bed-installation/

but i think the furring strip/ply/support is PLENTY strong. Was worried, but it's basically all built out now, and it's bomber

Thank you, I’ve been loving the idea of moving to Spokane/CDA area, and it’s great to hear your perspective

What’s your bed height, mattress heigh, and headroom, and are you happy with it?Builds

Im planning on

26” bed frame

10” mattress (cuz I have it unused in my garage)

So 40” of headroom. 36” is my absolute minimum that I’ve figured out truck camping, so I figure a couple more inches would be nice.

Nice! Keep the flooring and wall panels as a template. They’re come in handy for me 😎

Yes definitely, he needs to get over that uncomfortable puppy fomo barrier.

Yes he had toys and treat chews.

Hey it's not just tethered and left. Maybe your girl will be different, but my guy just saw us, and chilled. We're right next to him though (10 feet?), so he can see and is kinda part of the group. I would give him a tasty chew too. My guy has no interest in stuffed kongs or anything, so that's why we use those fish skin chews.

Trust me, I've been exactly where you are https://www.reddit.com/r/BorderCollie/comments/1bf3qox/tips_on_crazy_puppy/

Believe it or not, but it took me doing LESS with him. Limiting fetch/frisbee to <10 minutes was like a switch.

Oh, and we started doing sniff training. https://www.amazon.com/Race-Herd-Sniff-Training-Nosework/dp/B0BZ3ZT4SG/ref=sr_1_6?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.j6eW6RajmSTKItdPnl4SPXc-11Zt20fXSA_jcasq69vIA0ozJ9dMyZGS-J_7JGryMszYxpFn77GDzSln2xLXH7FN3KcFgsmgFWamyCKGMPOkzuSm5jOMmyz9dNyob6qriYnuM60eYy_Hem0NQTG-fABlBm-4w9js-UJ3dchX0yHz774L7fN-XzJMz5V6kulwhlL0gv5zlG3PLAh5hHbDBjHVjwDemwaQBKI_S1klq5LQJCIlSka3cLiGb42_0IRDRFumIaSCNKpzsvlcn0Gb9l5TkmPsn_u9hlDtnkvodQs.h3Sm5BdwNT7qcVMKsyO2TpW81bCGypB5gWu19NtAWZQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=dog+sniffing+games&qid=1715119997&sr=8-6

Any recommendations on what we could be doing with her to tire her out so she would sleep on her own?

Careful! In my experience, even BC puppies will go forever. You need to de-stimulate them to get them to sleep. Just putting my guy on a long leash, hooking it to the back door, and putting a bed down gets him to konk out immediately. We found this a much better option than the crate, which he LOATHES. We have a pen that he sleeps in, and we completely gave up on crate training.

My 16wo puppy will play frisbee literally forever, but it's up to me to slow him down.

The most important training for border collies is to settle, aka, Chill the Fuck Out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr1olzgidMw

As for going to sleep, giving him a tasty chew treat when the lights go off, and to settle down on his "place", has done wonders. We alternate between these (https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/ocean-chews-hearty-wolffish-skins-beams) and duck feet.

It doesn't need a seal? That's cool. How is it mounted? Literally just sitting on the countertop? The countertop has a hole down to the jerry can?

I saw a video (can't find it) where they used something like this: https://retract-a-gate.com/retractable-dog-pet-gate-features/

It stayed attached to their countertop cabinets, and slid and attached to the van frame, near the passenger seat, somehow.

Midwest starts at Denver. West starts at Golden (or just the foothills in general).

I started at 30, 32 now. I’m the same as the above. Very sensitive skin, no issues. 3 or 4x/week

No need to frame the sub floor. Even 150 XPS foam is plenty rigid with plywood on top.

What's your actual sad experiences?

Epoch? https://www.epochbatteries.com/products/12v-460ah-lifepo4-battery-ip67-heated-bluetooth-victron-comms

150ah more, but for the price of only 2 battle borns. If you check out Will Prowse's stuff, the battery breakdowns epoch vs litime lean very heavily to epoch.

lmao, for extra security do it right, then. Here's my solution for furring strips https://www.reddit.com/user/tictacotictaco/comments/1cjd2of/van_progress/

you could attach your bed rail right to the horizontal one, like you've done in your van, and it'll be stronger with those vertical supports. I'm attaching the supports with wood glue and pocket holes.
