That loneliness is a direct result of an economic system that had alienated us from  our communities and from one another. Capitalism primes people to view all interactions as simply "how can I profit from this". That kind of mindset can only produce loneliness because it is inherently focused only on the self.

It's their newest dogwhistle to cover for saying various slurs. A good example of this is how they were all screeching about the "DEI Mayor of Baltimore" following the bridge collision.

It does in the reworked script, but that was a tweak after the showed started. The hard back "tour book" also has a similar oddity, in that the "Storyteller" (the actor who was "Older Entu" in the rework) was a member of the Anurai Clan.

Like a Broadway show will have tweaks through a "preview" period, Toruk had bits and pieces changed. The filmed version is the "updated" show, though there was another rework later that added firedancers among a few other changes.

It also lends good backing to when he says as much to Spider. Aware audiences catch the "this man is dead" from the action, and then it gets repeated to "lock in" for everyone.

You can certainly critique the "writing" in Avatar, but the plotting, as it where, in terms of how concepts/themes like that are woven through both scripts, really is well written.

Which is where human aspects on Pandora taking action enter in. Like, as a direction for a franchise the solution coming from "both sides of humanity, those on Pandora and those on Earth" is really how the Na'vi "take the fight to Earth". Actually "victory" against the RDA will come from humans stepping up (squints at Jake being the model for this) and acting in radical support.

Even with limited communication, there has to be some level of "agitation" on Earth. "Limited-Canon" still kind of holds that there were/are protests on Earth against the RDA's actions. Taking the fight to Earth means expanding those movements.

It will be interesting to see if Cameron leans into this considering...real world events and protests.

Anyone wanting some more information on Beria should certainly give the Behind the Bastards series for him a listen. The man was even more of a monster than the movie portrays.

"Most Russian Russians"

Lavrentiy Beria was Georgian and that cause no end of drama for him.

The clashing accents works fairly well as a "shows the different regional dialects" all of those men who were from fairly different regions of the Soviet Union.

So if the Navi want the humans on earth to rally for them they need to find a way to overcome that obstacle

Intersectionality is the answer here. The Na'vi don't need to "rally", humanity does. Supporting the Na'vi in their struggle benefits humanity in their struggle against the RDA/Capitalism. Common cause between the two is the only path towards liberation.

I remember when "he" was just the Storyteller, and Entu was an entirely different character!

Middle is another "The actually stronger Force user blocks the attack", so your read "checks out" when it comes to that.

As a teacher, I randomly drop that one into faculty meetings when discussing "Dermotts".

It makes everything feel contained in an incredibly artificial way. "Old" Green Screen can have issues, but bad use of the Volume you can see the "line" between where real things end and nothingness begins really easily. Action choreography is also super obvious and rough, with characters just kind of "rooted" in place.

So, reading this posting and just getting "Ahh 4e Nostalgia", I went dug out the books and put together how I would maybe approach a similar "power" to the other Controllers. No idea on "balance", but my main design with 4e has always been to play into it's "over the top tone" so making "Class Powers" like this "balanced"...ehh depends.

Anyway,

Invoker already kind of has a great version of what I made for the other Controller's in it's "Channel Divinity." So, "balanced" version, I make all the other Controller powers just one turn effects instead of persistent since being persistent the idea was "weak effect+let's the player physically "Control" the battle field.

But that's not the fun version.

Fun version is some version of "Curses/Plagues", meaning you are dropping Burst 1 zones that move on an enemy and in some way do a minor effect, possibly damage. The idea is you "control" the area by forcing this NPC to think tactically about positioning.

Feats would let allies ignore the bad effects/give them good effects and "reapply" it if the targeted enemy dies, with maybe a Paragon Feat to let you designate two enemies to center the AoE on.

4e is just an edition I really enjoy.

The "Fight" on Earth should be to rally humans to oppose the RDA. I do not see the Na'vi taking an "offensive" part in such actions, though Jake/family may eventually meet up to lend assistance in that manner.

You could make the case that they are advanced Solarpunk with how they utilize solar energy I suppose.

They send the Knife Missile to weddings and schools. As long as employees avoid both, they are safe.

I'll echo the common "Start with Player of Games" suggestion, though Consider Phlebas is still a good read just a bit different from the rest of the series.

Yeah, it was mostly more "was not needed for the setting." Of Controllers it's got really strong flavor, on par with the Druid, so it's not that I dislike it. Maybe I'll look at the Divine classes again and fiddle with some homebrew there.

As someone who has DMed 4e since release, the skill system is literally no different than any other edition of D&D. The edition does lack "ribbon" features for classes, but a lot of that was moved over to Feats, which people "maximized the fun out of" by only going for combat feats.

What is an "Activist Judge"?

What does one study, specifically, to be an "Activist Judge"?

How does an "Activist Judge" enact "activism" by way of being a judge? (No, you cannot repeat your point of "Messing with said former president.)

Please elaborate in at least seven to ten sentences for all answers.

The Wizard's "issue" was that it came out early in the edition before the designers really "knew" what they wanted a Controller to "be". Were they an AoE class? Debuffs? What kind?

The Psion probably is the best "Controller", but I do love you saying the best thing to replace a Controller was a Defender, since the two do play fairly similarly.

For Wizard utility, you do get essentially the same utility Cantrips 5e has and Ritual Casting, so they had more Utility than most classes with that. Rituals just...needed some tuning. I've been DMing 4e since release day, and only once have had a player really "abuse" them, but they were my 3e CODzilla so that makes sense. Even then though, most of 5e's utility magic is replicated by Rituals, there just needed to be MORE of them divided by Power Source.

I have extensive 4e homebrew, and for it I gave each Controller an Encourer power that compliments the role. Wizards got a "Wall of Element", with Feats to alter type, size, and let them move it as free action. Druids got a "Thicket" burst for Slowing/Obscuring LoS, and Psions have a "black hole" single square summon kind of like the Elemental Priest Theme from Dark Sun. There is nothing for Invoker because my table-setting has no Divine classes/gods. Maybe they could get some sort of repeatable damage attack to lean into the whole "Twelve Plagues/God Smites You" theme they had.
