Could probably lose the hard hats, fellas.
I wouldn’t say I hate him…
Good. Fuck this guy and anyone in his community who thinks his behavior was appropriate. It’s 2024. Everyone should be smarter and better than this by now. Full stop.
Ex-Charlotte Health & Human Services worker here [but by no means a lawyer]. Firstly, he’s a minor at 16 and secondly this is a mental health group home. No idea what FC’s primary diagnosis is but having one documented certainly adds an extra layer to this horrific incident and FC’s fate.
Not that you asked but…
I worked for 5 years with individuals who had I/DD and MH diagnoses, some of whom lived in group homes or AFLs. Can confirm that a change to routine sends some individuals spiraling.
Imagine to the best of your ability having every hour of your day regulated by various staff. What you do, where you go, what you eat, what you wear, who you get to interact with—it varies from staff to staff, provider agency to provider agency but there are always limitations on an individual’s independence to a certain degree. Now add a diagnosis or multiple diagnoses on top of that. I had people on my caseload that would feel such a lack of independence that at some point they would boil over emotionally and seize an opportunity for control. It didn’t matter in those moments if there were consequences for their actions, all that mattered was to have an ounce of control over a situation if only for a few minutes. You take an individual with a MH diagnosis, a history of aggression, add a new trainee into the home and limit their usual amount of time to speak with their mother and, what might feel like only a minor alteration to routine to you or me can feel like a tectonic shift to someone like FC. We also have no idea how long FC had lived in the group home, so they may have only recently received placement after living with mom which is a massive transition.
I want to be clear, I am not suggesting Ganiyu acted poorly or was being overly authoritarian. I didn’t know the guy. Nor am I in any way condoning FC’s actions. Group homes, Health & Human Services is exhausting work. I only wanted to take this opportunity to express how important it is to acknowledge everyone’s personal needs, and flesh out how this sector, that not many people experience, can be very different from the world as we experience it. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Ganiyu’s family.
Edit: spelling/grammar.
So sorry. You gave him a great home, and a great life.
Worst almond milk I’ve ever had came from Aldi. Chemical taste to it, hard to describe. Just weird and very, very bad. They weren’t expired. I went to return the cartons I’d bought but it was a chaotic clusterfuck inside like always so I gave up and threw them out. Haven’t been back since.
I’ve been wanting to make this post for so long. I put this level of laziness and stupidity up there with people who leave their trash in parking lots, except this is almost certainly worse since most of the time it’s on a trail/greenway/sidewalk.
Do you live with anyone? How often does this happen? Do the items typically show up around the same time/day? How close do you live to your neighbors? Are you close with any of your neighbors? Who all did you tell about the trail cam?
On greenways and sidewalks you should always walk on the righthand side but if there’s no sidewalk you’re supposed to walk/run on the lefthand side, facing traffic, as a defensive measure. Beyond putting you in a safer position around car traffic, this also helps improve the flow of foot traffic on sidewalks/greenways.
Related: anybody else find it frustrating trying to follow this etiquette while walking your dog and people either walk on the wrong side head-on into you, or let their dog’s leash out 6+ feet into your path?
Hell yeah. I too have been known to game, sir.
OP really goofed this time.
Just had a little chat about this over in r/asheville. Yup!
Simple. Legit. I’ll crush some crackers, make ‘em wish I’d never opened that sleeve.
Yeah, agree with this. Like, I’m not saying the dude in his lifted RAM pickup doing 85 in a 60mph zone is a great person…but if I don’t move out of the left lane to let him go, well technically I’m the asshole.
Here for this answer. The 5:1 packaging to product ratio is B-A-N-A-N-A-S sometimes.
