Walked the new Catawba Falls trail. I appreciated the addition of about 2 miles of ridge trail that makes the whole thing about a 3 mile loop. The old trail portion has been resurfaced as gravel. The staircase and platforms is a much better way to deal with the crowds. Decent views up at the top.

There is a short reroute right now that will be there for about a month along the river trail. This .25 temporary trail is straight dirt with no gravel that will have mud and erosion issues. That slippery portion was my only issue.

I recommend.

Anyone else ever have a guy in a red Toyota rav4 try to talk to them while driving? He was passing me on Merrimon and started saying things so I pulled in Harris Teeter with him and asked him what he was saying and he said “The Devil’s Advocate” and I said what? And he said “look it up” and then he drove off. That’s a horror film. I’m so confused. He wasn’t angry and it was a friendly interaction but I’m really put off by it. There was no altercation or anything. He was saying some other stuff but the other stuff sounded like gibberish. Is this just someone trying to mess with me? 🙄

Was excited that they finally covered up several of the old writings along the New Belgium side until I saw there were already new blue tags all the way from New Belgium to Hominy Creek.

At this point it seems like they’ve been doing these same tags in the same place for awhile. Do we know who is doing these or why?

Has anyone noticed a sulfuric/eggy odor coming from their tap water? It isn’t noticeable in my filtered tap or hot water. I’m planning to call the city tomorrow, so it would be great to know if this is an issue affecting others, which would indicate bacteria in the city’s system.

Hey all! My parents recently moved to Asheville so I’m looking for gift ideas for Father’s Day that are activity based in or around Asheville. My father is really into fishing, biking, and blues music. Is there anything that comes to mind that I could buy him related to those things in Asheville? I’m thinking a gift card to a local store, a not too touristy outdoor experience, anything that would help him get more familiar with his new city. TIA!!

I turned 21 today. What should I do in Asheville , besides going to all the places that have free food?

It’s that time of year where people are mowing down their fields and making those giant hay bales.

I live up in the northernmost parts of Buncombe County, and it was this week when people were using all of their expensive farm equipment, and plenty of man hours, to make those giant bales of hay.

I just looked it up on FB Marketplace: they are going from $20-35 per bale of hay.

Let’s say a 20-acre plot of land makes 50 bales of hay. This is multiple days of work, using specialized and expensive farm equipment – not to mention the months growing the grasses – for $1,750 worth of hay.

The farm I see do this most has no horses or livestock. So they have to be growing it for money. Right?

Explain it to me!
