For those who walk frequently, what precautions do you apply to keep from being hit by a car?
What do you think of the state of pedestrian infrastructure (sidewalks, signals, etc.) in Asheville?

On greenways and sidewalks you should always walk on the righthand side but if there’s no sidewalk you’re supposed to walk/run on the lefthand side, facing traffic, as a defensive measure. Beyond putting you in a safer position around car traffic, this also helps improve the flow of foot traffic on sidewalks/greenways.
Related: anybody else find it frustrating trying to follow this etiquette while walking your dog and people either walk on the wrong side head-on into you, or let their dog’s leash out 6+ feet into your path?
Came here to say something similar about left and right hand sides. I run a lot and have found it safest to be traveling “with” traffic while on the sidewalk for two reasons: 1. Drivers traveling in the same direction seem to still notice pedestrians just as much as if you were coming at them, and 2. Drivers exiting a parking lot or intersection will only look left for oncoming traffic and will therefore also see you on the sidewalk. If I’m on the road then I’m all about taking up space, making eye contact, and waving at folks.
I disagree with folks saying not to cross if drivers wave you. Like, just use your brain and make sure all other parties also stop before entering the road? Anyway, just my opinion.
