I know this may be a hot take but if you're planning to leave it anyway do not put it in a plastic bag. What kind of logic is that? Now something that would have otherwise decomposed naturally in a week or two will sit in a bag in the bushes or at the bottom of the french broad for all freaking eternity.
Take it to a trash bin or even better take a stick and flick it off the trail.
