I’m about to graduate, and I really enjoyed the flexible hours and the community of my department. Those can obviously vary depending on where you are and the culture, but I made some great friends and was very well supported by faculty! Having friends to commiserate with was essential to get through the hard times
I was never hit as a child, but my husband was and he once casually mentioned that his mom didn’t hit him to correct him, but to take out her frustration on him. That shit made my blood run cold.

I once had a guy on a dating app call me picky because I said I didn’t want to eat a certain cuisine because I’m allergic to a very commonly used ingredient 🙄 at least now I’m married to a man who loves that cuisine and just goes with his friends when I’m busy like a normal person
I was teaching a college class and my students did poorly on a test (not actually poorly, average was in the 80s but these kids are used to getting As and were freaking out) so I decided to allow an extra credit project. I was letting them earn up to 15 points back on the exam so it was going to be a lot of work for them. The assignment was a 1 page outline for every chapter we had covered, so 15 pages total. I gave them two weeks and the rules were clear that in order to get any credit, they had to outline every chapter and turn it in on time. Not one single kid adhered to both those rules. One which really annoyed me was a kid who outlined 14 chapters and emailed them to me with a note that he had other things to do so he couldn’t do the last chapter, but he hoped I’d take into account his effort outlining the first 14. Drove me nuts, and I didn’t give anyone extra credit because they couldnt follow the basic instructions. They called me a bitch in my evaluations but I honestly don’t care, I was doing them a favor by offering so much extra credit and them ignoring the guidelines and expecting points anyway was a slap in the face

My husband and I registered for experiences instead of gifts. Basically we made mini cash funds on our website for activities we were already planning to do on our honeymoon (massages, snorkeling excursion, museum tickets etc) and that way people who wanted to give a specific gift still could. We got a lot of cash that way and got to do all sorts of fun stuff!
My childhood friend’s family has a house on that lake! She taught us all how to pronounce the name and I’ll never forget it

I’d recommend covering some expenses if you can! For mine, we all went to Chicago for the weekend. I covered the hotel rooms (I got 3 rooms for 7 people and everyone had their own bed), one brunch, and one dinner (at a nice restaurant). Everyone was responsible for their own travel costs, and the other brunch and dinner, which were at more affordable places. We had some activities that were free and some were optional, so some people opted to hang back at the hotel. I thought it worked very well!
My parents came to every home softball game I had except for one (the only one where I actually caught the ball!) I sucked so badly, never got a run and only made it to first base a handful of times, never caught the ball, could barely throw it when it came my way. My parents still showed up and cheered for me— my dad even left work early to make sure he was there. We would then joke around about how much I sucked, but it really meant a lot to me that they came and cheered whenever I did something moderately correctly

I tried on cocomelody dresses in one of their showrooms! I thought they were pretty good quality! I’d definitely look at review photos in addition to the professional shots, as I found some of the laces to look a bit cheaper in person, but overall I found them to be on par with other $1-2k dresses I tried
