What do you think
mimic tears…
If I am dual wielding Zweihanders and summon a mimic that is a total of 8 hands. EIGHT HANDS!
I'm half asleep rn and i read Zimmerman instead of Zweihander 💀
Dlc final boss vs 10 meter long shotgun (no amount of holy aoe bullshit can save him now)
Elden Ring would have been beautiful if we had the equivalent of a Pile bunker
I’ve got a job for you, 621…
"Eliminate Messmer the impaler"
Achthander
eight?
Zweihander means “two-hander” which means dual Zweihanders are four hands
genius
Are you forgetting your own hands?
That flare is wild bro
Why is it always tear
Ding ding ding~
Honestly why not summon the most based rn.
Here I am summoning mimic tear and spamming waves of gold and black blade and having the time of my life
obligatory "play how you want to play"
I think you gotta play how you wanna play and not really give a shit if anyone actually is serious about telling you to play differently. Memes are one thing but I said it in another thread telling someone how to play the game and giving them shit is crazy dickeating. Unless you worked on the game I don't wanna hear shit about how to play it
Hello, i am the sole game developer for fromsoftware and made the entire game. Im here to say magic builds, summoning, shields and spirit ashes are all wrong ways to play the game, and anyone who uses them is a coward.
Thank you Mr. Software! The game sucks a lot I'm having a lot of fun btw
What about rolling?
Only enlightened samurai warriors are able to roll, like real dark souls gamers. Only light rolling though. If i catch you medium rolling or god fucking forbid heavy rolling i will cannibalize you.
Saturn programmed the game?
No wonder it’s obsessed with consumables.
You forgot to put more feet in the dlc miyazaki
Mr. Software, in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen directed by Academy Award winner Michael Bay and starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, Optimus Prime, the heroic leader of the Autobots, is killed fighting several evil transformers (the Decepticons). A major plot point of the movie involves the main human cast attempting to locate the “Matrix of the Primes” a smart person doohicky that can be used to revive Primes like Optimus and π.
My question for you sir, is since you’re obviously familiar with Hollywood licensing (since you freed GERM from his indentured servitude at HBO), why didn’t you license the Matrix of the Primes from Michael Bay, so Miquella could use it to revive Prime ?
You would have had the opportunity to expand into another crossover market (Transformers) and Modern Ancient Egypt would’ve been a great setting for the DLC as Egyptians didn’t know how to write descriptions in English and preferred to use vague simple carvings as their primary form of communication. They’re also mostly all dead, much like the settings in your games. They also like tombs, catacombs, and dead people, with a heavy belief in resurrection which all appear prominently in your games.
Do you consider this a missed opportunity; or was their a particular reason why you couldn’t go this direction?
Edit: spoilers for virgins
I don’t really care either way but it’s kind of funny how the argument has gone from “if you summoned, you didn’t really beat the boss.” To “if you didn’t summon, you’re playing the game wrong.”
Definitely funny, I said you but I meant it like people in general not directly you, I have a bad habit of doing that over text and it doesn't translate at all lmao.
Because the base game felt decently balanced without the use of summoning except for maybe Malenia then with the DLC they basically designed it around summoning, which I think is pretty damn evident by the DLC leveling system having a separate summons path. So all the people originally shitting on summons are now having a tough time trying to brute force these ridiculous bosses while all the summoning scrubs are having fun fighting challenging but not ridiculously unfair bosses.
The summons get slapped around so much harder than in the base game. The bosses wreck their shit so hard. So it’s fun summoning, but it feels way less impactful to the outcome of the fight than the base game.
I think it depends. I was fighting the Dancing Lion and decided to see how I'd fare with an Ash summon. So I called up Black Knife Tiche and she melted 40% of the boss's health in like 2 mins. I actually quit the game because I didn't want to win like that haha
Idk, my Mimic Tear and Tiche both tanked hits at like ash level 3 that would've two- or three-hit me at fragment level 4
I don’t like watching npcs fight each other, but also I don’t fault anyone for not wanting to grind 6 hours on a boss. Just because I like it doesn’t mean others have to enjoy it the same way
I think the summon/don’t summon discussion is incredibly old and tired.
You know it's old when it's since dark souls 1...
It's funny though, the discourse seems to have switched. Before the dlc, the debate went from "you shouldn't use them," to "it's ok to use them, but they're optional."
Now I've seen the exact opposite like this, people saying you actually SHOULD use them, and you're wrong not to
No, it’s not. The discourse is the same. People are still saying summoning is optional, but if you’re REALLY struggling then yeah maybe you should summon them.
There's been a lot more "game is balanced around it" talk on the main sub last I checked but I also don't wanna go to the main sub so idk.
The meme this is posted on is literally saying the opposite but ok
Literally? How is it “literally” saying that lol.
It’s implying people who use summons are happier, because it’s easier. Very true. Where does the meme say “you HAVE to use summons”?
It's mostly the honeymoon difficulty making people summon. Every single boss feels impossible at first. Golden hippo is pretty fun once you get used to hin, but people seem to get stuck on him.
How dare you ruin my experience in a game about overcoming the obstacles by being another obstacle to overcome
Delete the coop finger from the image, I cant stand another 800 HP host that gets one shot. I've joined the Bad Red Man ranks.
Whoever is having fun is correct.
As someone going through the DLC without summoning, I'm having a blast.
As someone who has a friend who is going through the DLC with summoning, he's having a blast.
So who gives a fuck?
I like this comment
I like this comment
Literally me and my dad. He summons because he enjoys it, I don't summon because I enjoy that. It's no different, no one's victory is "more valid" because of how they won.
I tried to do it without summoning because I wanted to feel like a God. I am now summoning because I couldn’t beat any bosses without it. So now rather than being angry, I’m having fun.
It’s kind of how base game elden ring was for me. My first playthrough I used summons on almost every fight. This recent play though for the DLC I only used one for Mohg (I was impatient lol)
No True players dont use summons, ashes of war spells, rolls and weapons
I repeatedly afk in the arena until eventually the game crashes and my save is corrupted in such a way that the boss registers as being defeated. It takes me 3,792,410,396,231 tries on average to beat each boss. This is the intended dark souls experience.
False, Dark Souls player don't go outside or have friends
Honestly can this dumb argument just end already. Play with them if you like them, play without them if you don’t. It’s not that complicated.
Lmao I’ve been summoning people since my first souls game I don’t have any shame at all for admitting it this game is fun to play with friends
Yep, I plunked down a tenner on playstation's live service so I can help other players out and sometimes explore new locations with other newbs. Helping someone defeat a boss is a great feeling.
I think it really boils down to why you play these games. I like the atmosphere and exploring, bosses are usually flashy but annoying roadblocks to this. The BossBros who construct a terminally online identity over memorizing move sets, well, ER and especially this DLC feel terrible to this crowd.
This refers to the spirit bell summons mostly. Because some summons trivialises the game, a lot of people tell you not to use them if you want to prove your skill. I don't summon on first playthrough but idgaf whether you summon or not, as long as you don't come at me saying how X boss was so easy when you used +10 Tiche that took down 80% of the boss's HP on her own.
Facts. Like, you can't be saying the boss was easy or wasn't a challenge after summoning a Mimic tear with a Blasphemous Blade and Golden Vow and FGS. Like, you can celebrate it, have fun with it but don't go saying lies 😭
Yeah, but you embrace it.
r/eldenring is filled with summoners who cope that bosses are just as hard and enjoyable with mimic tear, when in reality it's a day and night difference.
This argument is as old as time, but I believe at least a few of the bosses have been designed to be moreso fought with a summon at your side in Elden Ring, hence the introduction of spirit ashes. this especially goes for gank fights. In Dark Souls it was more of a side thing you did if you wanted, it wasn’t as integral as it is now if you ask me.
That's the issue, only a few are actually equipped to deal with multiple players or player + spirit ash, and summoning and playing with friends is fun but it breaks most boss fights because the boss can't really deal with everyone at the same time.
That's why I'm hoping that the next from soft game, whatever it may be, has a better thought out coop that doesn't make the fights exponentially easier if you play with a friend.
I only summoned for the final boss and instantly regretted it because the buffs it gets from summons are very stupid
I wouldn't summon for this DLC unless you have max upgrades or know what your doing . The HP bloat they get is really high .
Yeah im sure the final boss had like 2-2.5x hp with only 2 summons the damage we dealt was barely denting its hp bar compared to solo and it has waaay higher stance and resistance to stuff like bleed etc i could stance break with only 3 good timed charged attacks on solo and with summons i never managed to stance break it
Yeah these bosses aren't summon friendly due to the Shere wildness of they're attacks and aoe's. They're more manageable with your spirits and just you or solo .
Yeah 2x. The formula for Dark Souls has always been boss gets +50% HP per summon. Exceptions are mid-battle summons like against Radahn and spirit summons.
Spent 4 hours trying to beat Bayle with 2 friends. After they got tired of trying I beat him solo on first try. The HP increase is massive, and most bosses are fast at chasing you making it really hard for all of players to do damage at the same time. Most of the time we are taking turns between running after the boss and engaging/dodging/attacking.
Besides the easier windows to heal when they focus on someone else, I would say summoning makes some fights harder than single player lol
I loved climbing that mountain to find whats left of this beast ready to devour me. Such an epic model.
When people say “summon” they’re generally talking about spirit ashes, which do not give the boss any benefits.
I think it is perfectly valid to play the game exactly how you want
Im confident in what I can do solo as a player just because it's how I learned to play a decade ago. On the other hand, l happily used summons against Bayle because I dont hate myself.
As long as you're not the guy always looking for Cheese Cheat methods to kill a boss without fighting it you're okay in my book
summoning is boring, why would I wanna watch some npc fight the boss for me
You can get in there and help too, kinda rude to just watch your friend get stomped out by a monster lmao
In this dlc the bosses target you more than anything.
I love running around in circles with the boss on my ass while my mimic nukes is from behind, completely unnoticed.
Cope (joke but not joke)
The bosses seem to have the same aggro AI that they have always had
shabriris woe
Get Latenna, she will attack from afar while you fight the boss
Or maybe make yourself a battle mage, and summon the mimic with only the mage parts and then equip the swords or whatever you use, so you have a mage on your rear attacking while you draw aggro
NPC Caster AI is legitimately terrible and doesn’t know how to use any spells. Mimic Tear is dogshit on Int or Faith builds unless you intentionally unequip spells so it doesn’t randomly cast Golden Vow or Flame, Cleanse Me when there’s literally no need to
have you even used spirit ash before? you really think you can just sit back and watch them fight for you
It’s an exaggeration but it really does make the game a ridiculous amount easier. Being able to trade aggro with a summon that doesn’t give the boss any extra hp or anything is a huge boon. And if it’s a good summon (or an OP one like mimic tear) it will do some really good damage for you as well.
I’m totally fine with it though. It’s FromSofts answer to the whole “easy mode” debate and I think it’s deftly handled. At the end of the day it’s a game and people play it for fun, and if people want an easier experience, they should have that option.
It’s just for certain bosses (Malenia and Rellana for me so far) it seems like there’s no middle ground between god-gamer ultra-sweat mode and game journalist mode.
I beat Rellana on my 26th attempt. As soon I passed attempt 10 I just kept thinking “why am I doing this?” about my insistence on doing it without spirit ashes.
I mean, who am I trying to impress? People will just hate on me because of their own insecurities about how they play the game. But I stuck to my guns and I feel good about it.
I’ve never talked down to anyone for how they choose to play the game. But I get hate when I share how I personally choose to play the game, just because others are insecure. So they make up this narrative that people are telling them they can’t use spirit ashes simply out of anger for those who don’t use them themselves.
Seriously, where are these people? Are there enough of them to warrant memes about this shit every day?
Dunno, my mimic tear has been doing the Lord's Work for me this go around.
This is my issue with every person who parrots "BUT THE GAME IS DESIGNED FOR SUMMONS"
Yeah, and if the intended design is to go from DS3/BB/Sekiro to watching bosses focus NPCs then it's a MASSIVE downgrade. Imagine Sword Saint but he spends half the time fighting some unkillable NPC and you just occasionally run in and poke. Tried to test out the Bayle summon to hear the lines, boss immediately drops to half HP while attacking me maybe thrice, and I have to suicide before the NPC solos him. I'm not even a person who thinks this DLC is too hard/needs nerfs, but this is the dumbest Souls argument I've ever heard.
I usually use crystalian, so its more like it occasionally does <50 damage and takes away aggro, so i can heal and do a big charge attack, before having it aggro back on me
If the summon is fighting the boss more than you then idk how to be the one to tell you this .... Get Gud.
What a time we live in. People who use summons are telling those who don't to get good.
Fighting without summons makes me feel accomplished but sometimes you just gonna summon for these hoes (I’ve never beaten Maliketh or Godfrey or Radagon without a summon)
Valiant Gargoyles man. Swallowing my pride and summoning D was such a breath of fresh air
A philosophy I got from DS2 is "if the boss is ganking me I have every right to gank it back"
Ornstein and Smough and the Demon Prince in DS3 are the only duo bosses I didn't summon for
I forgot about those godawful things
I will never fight them without summoning I don’t care how much pride I have
mfw D is dead so i can’t 😔
Fia killed him in my game as well but i could still summon him. Or perhaps it was his brother that you give the twinned armor set to
Godfrey for me is genuinely hard to beat without some form of summon, the best being multiplayer. I have beat him solo, and on NG+ cycles, but its just not fun to me. So i summon for him.
Also, I like summoning others to give Gideon a thorough beating.
Those Gargoyles deserve it too but I usually never summon for those.
For christs sake. Can we stop arguing about this already! Play the game however you fucking want. There are like 8 people who have no life outside these games that refuse to accept anyone who hasn’t beaten the game naked with a +0 weapon is worth existing, and everyone else just wants you to have fun.
This conversation isn’t old and tired, it’s been on its deathbed on life support for a long time.
I play Fromsoft games to have fun, If I get the option to summon an NPC I take it, Sometimes they have nice dialogue when you next meet them, I know it gives the bosses extra HP, but I think it's fun.
I summoned for every boss that had the option that I faced so far, I do not regret it. Even if the boss got more health, I still enjoyed seeing Hornsent get killed by the Golden Hippo. And isn't that the real charm of Fromsoft games?
Summoning Sirris and Orbeck to assist you in beating up a cripple is peak Fromsoft. If the game didn't want me to summon Gael to assist with Sister Friede, then why did they give me the option to do so?
Let people play how they want.
I love learning boss patterns. I love dodging and hitting them via my own movements and me reading their moves like a book
Summons ruin this whole dynamic because they are just extra npc with no interactions. Like at this point I can just watch somebody else play it on YouTube
This is true but the boss in the dlc is too much. I cant learn the pattern because it’s just random bullshit go with 1/2 hp each hit
Is it impossible?
It sounds like it hit your personal breaking point. Maybe you want to use a summon; thats cool. But dont start insisting that the summon is the only option. It isnt.
you mean "git gud" is always available right? I get it.
before saying this, I tried changing build, gear setup also. So it's just my skill issue for not able to solo the boss this time.
I like choosing summonable spirit's that match the type of character I made. I made a beast-incantation user? Only summon wolves, rats, and birds. I made a black knife cosplay? Tiche, duh! I made a pirate/sailor with the rusty anchor weapon? Finally get to main the jellyfish! And so forth, with whichever is coolest.
That’s such a fun and refreshing take on the summons debate. I’m gonna start doing that on a save one day
Just like solaire said "engage in jolly cooperation"
I think you can do either based on whichever one you enjoy more. I personally don't summon because it reduces the game to a process of just going through the motions like any old RPG.
As someone who generally doesn’t summon, I do prefer doing bosses solo but at most I’ll use spirit ashes that match the theme of my build. I have a str/fai black flame build so I use Black flame Amon spirit ash. Not OP but definitely gives me a chance to breathe and he rarely last more that a quarter of the boss health
I think you should do whatever you think is fun. When I was fighting “pontiff” I wanted to use the summon outside the door. But after a couple tries it wasn’t fun so I stopped.
When I am fighting magma wyrm I always summon boggart bc it’s fun
I'll be perfectly honest, summoning is not really Fun or rewarding.
I never summon in Fromsoft games and I’m having a great time with the DLC. Am I stupid?
According to some people on the main sub you are stupid and actually playing the game wrong if you don't summon
I love bosses being spectacle AoE non stop unfun when not using summons and being piss easy when summoning. No in between allowed.
I love my tiche and spirit ash but the bonus the boss gets from Lena is to big for me to summon her
No thank you, i dont want an npc to double the bosses health while they do 30 dmg.
I don’t summon because if my summon dies I’m just fighting a boss with more health lol
Who cares lol. I personally don’t summon the first time around because I find it more fun and satisfying. If someone else wants to blow through the bosses with Black Knife Tiche, go for it.
In my experience i choose not to summon on my first go round every game as it takes away from the challenge. However summoning allows you to both play with friends and beat bosses easier and i dont have a problem with it. That being sad mimic tear sucks ass
My internet isn’t good enough for online summon so….
They should both be depressed because both mimic tear and I are still getting our asses handed to us constantly
Idk, I beat the final boss last night no summons and it was really exhilarating
I think it’s a very fair take. I enjoyed beating all the games without summons my first time but some people just don’t have the patience or skill or time etc. and the experience becomes much more enjoyable with summons. Now I make sure to use every summon sign I see and make sure I can be invaded as much as possible. Why would the devs add online play if they didn’t want you to use it?
Summons sre boring as hell. You summon a guy to fight for you and make you ignore how enemies behave, wow. How fun.
I tried solo-ing some of the new bosses and they are so hard... they have infinite stamina.
but when I summon the mimic, I beat them first try.
I wish there is some balance in between.
I refuse to summon, but I ain’t gonna piss myself arguing with someone who does. Miyazaki didn’t put them in the game just so they can collect dust
NPC Summons are fine but it’s fair to make fun of people who summon other players to carry them🗣️
Skill issue, git gud
The sad thing is that game was designed with summons in mind while being built on foundations of "boss is meant to be fought mostly by 1 player so it should have openings as a way to deal damage". You know, the soulslike formula.
The "summons are meant to be used" and "bosses are designed for solo play" is very dissonant and honestly ruins the game for me. All the bosses are so aggressive with roll catches and feints for days that fighting them solo is just dying over and over to learn their patterns more than just intuit the flow of combat. But hey, they are way more difficult because if they were souls/bb level you'd faceroll everything with single summon.
I see all the cool designs, fantastic music and beautiful landscapes and just get sad that it's all in service to this mediocre, internally conflicted Frankenstein's monster of a core gameplay.
I like to summon, but sometimes it's easier to fight the boss solo.
I only summoned for two bosses: putrescent knight (Idek why I summoned I did it on my first attempt without trying it solo first. It was late ig) and the final boss. I tried for 3 hours to do the final boss to the point I had learned all its moves and still couldn’t beat it. The first try with my summon I beat it with plenty of heals to spare.
Fighting side by side with the likes of Solaire, Anri or Seigward? Tis an honour!
This shouldn’t be a discussion imo. The mechanic exists and whether someone uses it or not is entirely up to them for how they want to play. End of the day it’s about your enjoyment. If you enjoy the solo challenge then go for it. If you need the helping hand then go for it. Both people can have fun and are otherwise arguing for the sake of arguing.
I always try to not summon, go in and fight the boss normally, if I get them half down at the first try, I just don’t summon to keep fighting them like this till I win, if all tries are super unreliable, I pull out the summon and go from there, works every time and makes me feel happy
Then there's people like me who weigh the pros and cons of summoning: i.e, More boss health and resistances, having someone to pull aggro, etc.
The ines that not summon are losing in content as is pretry intresting to check wich summon counters wich boss, kind of a pokemon battle
Summon or no summon just play the way it makes the game fun... Unlike me who never use summons because I hate myself
I summon for large mobs and stuff, I'm not gonna summon for a major boss tho. That's the way I want to play.
I used to refuse but now that I want to I can’t because it would take me hours to get to the needed glovewarts and ashes.
The one who has fun their own way is winning
Depends on my build, my bleed build I like having the mimic so I can do double bleed damage, but on my strength build with ultra great sword and max health I just run in and solo
Idk I just beat rellana after like 10 try’s with zweihander jump attack trading. Haven’t gotten further than her tho.
This shit matters again?
There’s this cool summon of a demihuman somewhat early on in the DLC. I won’t give spoilers but this guy is so cool. I really wish I could get his weapon but he’s just awesome
Summons are cool as shit. I wish we could summon more often
I only wanted to play the game without spirits for the first three ng+ play throughs just because I wanted to get good with the attack patterns to the point I can beat the boss with less than 5-10 hits
After that aching spirits just adds variety
The bird that gives you an attack buff changed the way I see summons.
Fuck it, we lvl 10 vitality lvl 99 strength. Just no hit
I really don’t like multiplayer in these types of games so I just go offline every time I boot one up. Partially because they feel like single player games to me and someone else joining feels like if another person was able to just walk into my daydream. Also partially because the few times I have interacted with it has been the other players being either a god of the game who is billions of light years ahead of me in terms of knowledge and prowess or tard that’s trying to piss me off as much as possible before their wranglers apprehend them. And there’s no in between.
Top tier shitpost OP 👍
You can do whatever you want, just don't complain about how much the bosses are hard and unfair if you decide to deprive yourself of the summon mechanic.
Ngl I think everyone should try without summons. If you can’t do it use them I don’t care
I'd use summons but I went without for all my characters and I don't want the hassle of getting all the upgrade materials for each one.
Also, I thought the consensus was it's ok to use summons but they're optional. Now it's ok that they're basically required?
duuuude this one guy i know calls me a cheater for summoning my friends 😭😭
Bro can i just do a fukin boss on my own without being portrayed a depressed loner. Jesus christ.
I'm not summoning and having tons of fun. Only one boss has given me a hard time, was a solid 30-40 minutes of attempts to clutch a win.
Summoners will die alone compared to us, real Elite Gamers. Have they no shame for being such dogs? Elites rise up! ✊✊✊
It should really be this:
Sad guy: people who play based off of what the community considers “good”
Happy guy: people who play what’s fun for them
I'd rather see more of the game then keep banging my head on a wall when I can't kill a certain boss. If I really want the extra challenge I can always make another character and do it again.
Dark Souls is Dark Souls, don't let anyone else tell you how to play the game, some people enjoy a more casual experience, and despite it still being Dark Souls, summoning CAN provide an easier more relaxed experience. And then if you're a masochist like me and the rest of us, we'll we just dont summon because it makes the game too easy
They could at least give an achievement for those that don’t summon so they can brag about it. It is just senseless
This is perfect.
If I’m having fun learning the boss like with rellana then no summons
If I’m not enjoying the boss like with messmer then I’m about to pull up with the gank squad and my boi hornsent to put his ass in the dirt
Nah bro, it’s all about the satisfaction you’re willing to get, playing without summons is so much for difficult but because of it, a whole lot more satisfying.
Playing through the DLC and only just getting my first main boss has been a greusome yet satisfying experience. Also running an unbalanced quality build at meta level (135) with 50vig so that’s some added difficulty.
Up to each person how they wish to play, and what difficulty to choose. Just don’t brag if you and your mimic tear stunlock a boss and get it first try.
I don't like summons, I play these games partially for the challenge and summons make it easy and removes a core aspect of why I personally enjoy them thus the image is reversed for me specifically
But tones of people enjoy using summons and its a single player game (mostly) so what's the point in shaming how people play or.if they use a meta build/item, it's single player. If they enjoy it then so be it
I play with no summons, and I'm having a blast. As long as you're having fun, every playstyle is looking towards the sun.
I'm not beating Radahn either way
I just summon when I happen to be human and see the summon sign.
If no one got me, Banished Knight Oleg got me
Yp we all gight the same boss people need to chill
I don't use summons but in the DLC I did :-) without one on the final boss it felt retarded
People bitch and moan about how hard the bosses are, meanwhile I summon my Level 10 Greatshield Boys™ and roll them in three tries. Get real
It doesn’t have to be one or the other. If you want to learn how bosses work and try to outplay them, be the guy on the left. If you get tired of that or don’t want to do that, be the guy on the right.
When I played og elden ring, I used summons for Margit and Malenia. That’s it. Just didn’t need them for anyone else. This is what was most fun for me though too. Some of the bosses took me HOURS. I liked that. If you don’t like that don’t do that.
Yes, Margit is a random sounding choice. He was a real pain in the ass for me and I really struggled with him more than other bosses!
The perfect way to do it imo is to try solo until you can't take it. Summon should be used for when you think the skill ceiling is too high to learn, like on Malenia or something. Know your limits.
I think it all boils down to perspective. Ppl who look at the dlc as elden ring 2 think the bosses are too hard because they are as hard if not harder than end game bosses and lacking the build up that base elden ring had, this is further exacerbated by the level up system making the bosses genuinely super hard if you don't have a few blessings which some ppl won't depending on how they got to the boss. Also the divine beast is actually just trash because any boss that makes you fight the camera sucks. Can we just all admit the camera sucks?
Yeah but when we win were the guy on the right for a few seconds before going back to normal.
Based meme
I shouldn’t have to suffer just because you beat the big guy with a Greatsword and I beat it with magic and a spirit guy. I’ll use the Greatsword if I feel like it, but I don’t have to just cuz you did
Simple. If a do a Summon of any kind for any of the bosses it will be just more difficult to learn their patterns or if the boss end up dying too easy is just not as gratificant as I killed him alone. Happened with Vikar Amelia. Also hapenned with Midir, the shame was such that I just re-started the whole run to face him alone and killed him like on the 3rd try. It just not as epic.
Honestly I think the boss fights when you summon are in some ways harder than doing it solo. This is due to the scaling system where the bosses get extra HP and the other players are given a debuff (check your stats when you get summoned).
We can meet in the middle. Some people want a challenge, some people don't want a challenge or just hit a skill ceiling and need to summon to progress. Both groups are having fun. These things were put in the game for us to use. Although that said, even if somebody decided they would cheat I wouldn't care as long as they were having fun and weren't taking their cheats online.
I killed that ghost knight guy (in the ER dlc) first try cuz I summoned random people to help and all 3 of us were strength builds.
Poor guy got bullied to death in the corner of the room by 3 guys with big unga bunga power. It almost felt criminal. It was fantastic.
I love summoning!
I only summoned during the fight. Main reason was that some dude ask me to summon him. Also was getting my ass kicked… but we don’t talk about that.
When the people who summon start outshitting the gatekeepers
i just find it a bit too easy with them. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using them but I enjoy the constant pressure with no agro breaks. There are these mongoloids out here however who refuse to summon and then leave negative reviews complaining about difficulty
DLC: adds several talismans that make summons and using them better and cooler, adds a buff thing to make them stronger
Some people: NO! WRONG! WRONG AND BAD!
Yes summons are a valid playstyle, no doubts about it. But they make the game ridiculously easy, that fact remains. I myself dont summon and wiped the floor with Malenia when I did. The problem is some players dont even use summon as a last resort, they just go in and immedeately summon. They never learn the boss fight or even learn how to play correctly. Like I understand if youre playing a story based game and just want to play for the story. But youre literally playing a game that is a "skill check". Why would you want to steamroll through it?
I'm perfectly happy not summoning, that is what I prefer. It's not about easy for me.
If you like summoning, do it. If you don't, don't. It really is that simple.
I'm not summoning and I'm having the time of my life. I will cave if I start getting frustrated but it hasn't happened yet.
Remember, no summons. Oh and no magic either. But miracles are ok, until they get hood in eldenring then they're not ok again. No ashes either. Oh and none of the other cool unique mechanics like arts, except the ones we say are ok. And no status effects, except frost that ones cool. Also if you're an into build you can use these specific weapons. But it's ok to cheese bosses with sleep but nothing else
This is what these people look like.
I'll admit, I personally don't want to summon or use ashes. But cone the fuck on, how many layers of gatekeeping do basement dwellers need. I get it, being good at souls games in your personality but eventually you're just gonna reduce the game to str only no arts level cap 90 just to feel good about yourselves.
I almost hope they add an easy mode just to piss these people off
Play the game however you want, but understand the game is made with summons in mind.
if people want to beat a boss alone then they shouldn't feel like they have to summon
with that being said, if you don't know when you can even attack, fucking look up people beating the boss, prefferably no hits. that will show you openings that are a massive pain in the ass to find on your own.
edit: i now realize this is talking about spirit summons. this does not change my opinion, looking shit up should come before using what you percieve as less fun strategies.
I’ve constantly got a friend whining that when i summon it’s easy mode. God forbid i enjoy the game xD
Im on my first playthrough currently at the atlus plateau and i havent even bought the spirit bell. Im having a shit ton o fun though 🫶
Yep that’s me on the left, however I’m not bothered if other people like to summon, it’s in the game
I summon when i need to but i rather don't enjoy getting invaded by john rivers of blood as soon as i pop a rune arc, so i just end up not summoning most of the time
I dont like summons, so I dont summon, I'm happy. Play however you want
Dead post
Is should be just the left side of the image with the caption - “people who debate online whether or not to use summons”
I personally don’t really use summons or spirit ashes but I think you should play however is fun for you. The one and only reason I don’t is because I prefer the challenge of soloing bosses.
Everyone should stop comparing builds, it only ends in arguments and tears.
