Anyone else surprised that the high school soccer field was used for a very loud religious event, with chants and music at 730 am on a Sunday.
I don’t recall this site being used for worship in the past.
No prior notice was given to residents by the organizers or the town, one would think that it would be the courteous thing to do.

Agree this was unpleasant and without warning. The Christian churches aren't ringing their church bells loudly before or after prayer. How is this any different?
Because church bells are kind of nice and sound nice. I don’t enjoy hearing chanting at 7 am, and church bells are at 12.
They got a permit to celebrate Eid at Blakelock. We heard they had the same event at the Cornation Park last year, but the nearby neighborhood complained about the noise level and they moved to Blakelock this year.
Yes Coronation Park neighbours trump Blakelock neighbours. They also managed to block any waterfront festivals or anything similar at Coronation Park forever and ever.
God I miss Waterfront Festival. What an absolutely tragic loss for this town that’s been.
Waterfront Festival stopped because the organizer got tired of all the effort for little to no payoff. That was my understanding at the time.

We were woken up by the loud music, not concerned, but more like curious. But I agreed, it’s nice to be informed ahead of time.

I think there should have been a courtesy message before time and the loud speaker didn't have to be utilised

I heard it. It sounded like singing or maybe an Orthodox priest chanting. It was faint but I’m not that close to Blakelock.
I can say that the event irregardless of the religion or significance was downright ridiculous on a Sunday morning at 7:45 am. People within nearly a 500 m radius of the event were awaken to extremely loud blaring speakers, no notice, and no consideration until the event ended at 10:30. Infants and young children trying to sleep and enjoy their mornings which were severely disturbed by this event.
Permit or not Oakville bylaw for noise is 9 am on Sundays, special exceptions (which there really should be none) are understood for the ceremony but the planner who is responsible should have taken the time to book an appropriate venue that is not located so close to a residential area. For example there is bronte provincial park which is a large park area that can be rented by organizers. Once again proper notice should be provided to the patrons and visitors of the park before holding the event but at least there are no permanent residents inside the park.
Overall it seems as though the event was held at blakelock and at coronation park because the organizer wanted to save a few dollars. With the number of people at this event I find it hard to believe that pitching in an extra few dollars is unfeasible to avoid this issue and respect the local community.
I think we can all agree here blakelock field is not a place of worship and should not be used as such.
I’m over 1km away and I heard it. It wasn’t blaring but sounded like a neighbour was out singing something religious.
I’m quite close, and it sounded like the event was being held in my bedroom. I can’t believe it reached that far though, crazy!

It’s Eid for Muslims. It comes twice a year. Prayer is early in the morning. That’s what the event was. It would’ve been courteous for the town to let residents know as prayer is typically done on a loudspeaker for everyone to hear, but that’s what the event is Incase you were wondering.

I've never had other demoninations broadcast their service with loudspeakers into a neighbourhood before. This is a first experience for me. This area is dead quiet at that time so it was jarring.

It was a community event, Eid I think. It seems the organizers coordinated with the town and they were very ccoperative and reduced the volume after the issue was brought to their attention.
False, they did not. The volume level was constant for the duration of the event.
I actually thought it was a leftover all night party that I had somehow slept through.

The problem is people like yourself who play victim after showing complete disregard to the respect of the residents in the area. The only segregation you feel is in your mind and you should consider lightening up. Canada has its flaws for sure, I am a minority, but overall is accepting and we need to stop self-classifying as victims. The community is welcomjng to people of all ethnicity and religions but feel that respect and consideration is warranted when having such events. We have people in this community who have been here for over 30 years and believe that they deserve to know what is going on in their community and should not have to be disrupted to this degree.
A great analogy here is if someone is invited to your house for the first time would you like it if they brought a loudspeaker inside your house and was playing it full blast for the duration they stayed? Probably not… and regardless if it’s illegal or not it’s just downright disrespectful. And you would probably not want to have that person over again especially if you didn’t want the noise in the first place.
There is a Syriac Catholic church across the street which I hope was told ahead of time by the Town so they could change the Mass time. The church is a Middle Eastern Catholic denomination where they came to Canada because of persecution including some of them being massacred for their religious beliefs. I would like to be warned so I could not have to listen to it and maybe bring back PTSD. Respect works both ways.

Lmao what a straw man argument. “Those kinda people” can go wherever they want but if any group of religious people are practicing their religion outdoors at loud volumes early in the morning, the volume level should influence where they go. Pick a bigger park with less housing around it (Bronte park, for example)
