Last night I had the worst one yet..I left work early and stumbled in my front door, vomited, took 3 aleve's, grabbed an ice pack, put in some migraine relief sounds, pillow over my head and went to sleep for about 2.5 hours. Thankfully I woke up and it was gone...but this morning my heart is racing and I feel like I slammed an 8 ball last night. I'm shakey, dry mouth and feel out of it. Has this happened to anyone else?
Anyone else feel like they're coming off drugs after a migraine?
SO exhausting. It's unreal. I said to my husband when he got home that I felt like I just fought a war.
Nearly the same words I used this morning, after coming off a short(2-day) but bad flareup-"coming out of battle." My body aches everywhere, my joints are on fire, my brain is still burning, like I can barely move. I don't know if it's the awful heat that's making them worse this summer, but I'm definitely having a harder time coming out of one. I had an occipital neuralgia flareup earlier in the week so I know that already weakened me but jeez. Aaaaand I'm getting more pressure shift warnings. (Southeast US). Sending restful wishes to all
I'm in southern Ontario, and the heat has been unbearable. The humidity is next level, so I do think it plays a huge part. A 2 day attack sounds awful! I hope you start to feel better soon, with lots of liquids . I took a shot of pickle juice (electrolytes) this morning, and I feel a bit better, but the hangxiety is still going strong .
Actual name of what you are experiencing: Postdrome
Name people give it: the migraine hang over
I always call it, “Migraine Hangover” because yeah, you feel like shit.
Yes! Mentally as well!
I'm gonna use that phrase, that's exactly what it feels like!
It’s a hangover without any of the fun part the night before.
That’s what I call it. I can have migraine hangover for days.
Me too!
I call it this as well!
SAME LOL
Yeah, it’s common, look up the “postdrome” migraine symptoms. I always feel in a weird daze for a couple days after a really bad attack. Also you ARE coming off of drugs, so don’t forget about that too
Ooof, the postdrome. I’m more tired during this phase than during the headache. Zombie levels. Hydration and sleep seem to help.
Hmm, I guess you're right. Aleve is a drug!
It took me saying to myself “you just took some hardcore neurological drugs” to click that sometimes hardcore neurological drugs have side effects hhahaha
Oh yeah. During an attack, it's like I'm constantly fighting it and trying not to "crumble". So once it passes, my body lets go and I'm weak as all hell. Zero energy left, too tired to eat, very zoned out, etc.
You need some electrolytes on hand for if/when this happens again. It helps a lot to recharge afterwards. Do you have proper abortive medication? Because Aleve is just a painkiller, what you're describing is that you already were in the attack stage. Feel better soon.
I drank half a bottle of Gatorade at work, but it all came up. Let me tell you, Bile and Gatorade make a pretty color, but it's the worst flavor, hahaha. I had a shot of pickle juice this morning, and that seemed to help!
😬 dear help you! I'm finding liposomal magnesium sachets pretty helpful at the mo. You can take them straight out of the sachet or dissolve in water. We don't get Gatorade in the UK but I found that aspartame is a migraine trigger for me. A lot of those artificial ingredients can trigger migraines, there are companies making artificial additive-free electrolytes like Oshun and Humantra. Glad the pickle juice helped 😅
also from UK - can you share which sachets you buy? or is it a prescription? 🙏 thanks in advance!
Yep! I'm trying Zooki magnesium sachets at the moment and getting on really well with them. They are very expensive, I thought I might be able to get away with taking them every other day to save money, but had my period this week and the hormonal migraines were raging, I actually doubled up to 400mg daily. I just purchased 2 weeks' worth, I don't want to have a subscription.
Capsule / tablet magnesium does nothing for me. These have definitely helped to take the edge off migraines. I noticed my period cramps and digestion is better since trying these, even though I didn't think I was low in magnesium (been trying to address it through diet), I obviously was.
Word of warning: I find the taste a bit sickly after a while. It's supposed to be 'Pineapple Guava' but I realised they have cinnamon in them and I don't particularly like cinnamon. I wish they would formulate another flavour, even a neutral flavour. But honestly worth it for now. I've also been having a look at electrolytes and hoping to try Oshun or Humantra on next pay day 💜
amazing, thank you!
I'm not much of a Gatorade drinker...too much sugar for me, but it was so hot and humid I thought it would work! But maybe it was the trigger 😭 never again lol
Desperate times call for desperate measures 🙈 hope you're feeling brighter today ☀️ You're gonna have to carry a jar of pickles around with you now...
Post migraine I’m tired foggy brained
Same here, unfortunately I tend to get daily migraines lately which means pretty much 24/7 brain fog. However, I started a few weeks ago on preventive Nurtec and still get almost daily migraines but not nearly as severe and the brain fog isn't nearly as bad. I'm still taking my normal rescue meds, but they seem to work much faster and without the hangover afterwards.
That’s me today after a migraine yesterday. I’m tired and nauseated and blehhhhhhh. Hope you feel better soon!
I call it migraine brain. I just get really distracting auras, without the headache (I'm retired with zero stress - during the really stressful times of my life, the migraine pain would make me vomit and lose sensation in my arms, so I have experienced it).
Migraine brain reminds me of drugs because my perception is altered and I can tell that my brain chemistry is off. I need to think calm thoughts, and relax.
I used to get them once a year, maybe. Now I get clusters of them when they come and go for at least half of the days of the month.
That sounds unbearable. I hope youbget the rest and darkness that you need! Healing thoughts.
Yes. Sometimes, the after part is just as bad. It’s like the life and all my energy has been sucked from me
Yes! I’ve always referred to it as migraine hangover
I feel hungover for 36 hours post me grain
I often feel really drained after one, too. Not sleepy, just zero energy. Like just walking around makes my heart race. But then I'm fine the next day.
I always assumed it was from barely eating or moving for three or four days and being in constant pain, and I'm sure that's part of it, but also apparently it can also be part of the post-drome.
I second the electrolytes suggestion, especially if you've been vomiting and/or not eating much.
I had one on Friday, I haven't had a migraine in a really long time, so I felt woefully underprepared for it. I took some heavy duty drugs, and just curled up in bed with some podcasts queued up on really low volume because I wasn't actually sure I was going to be able to fall asleep it was so bad.
He figured out what was happening with our eldest, who went to his grandparent's house, and he just figured out dinner because I couldn't even think about food, hell I was in no place to even say "just order pizza". So I just had dinner show up without needing any brain power for it.
When things finally calmed down to the point I had even the slightest bit of mental abilities I had that kind of cuddly "I want comfort" thing. Which with twin 3 year olds, it is uncommon for me to be like "I want to touch and be touched" by the end of the night.
I absolutely understand the post migraine just fog, nothing every seems to work exactly as it should, the world seems on a 2 second delay to what I am trying to do.
Yes! I have several chronic health conditions too so compounding the migraine/post migraine with that is so exhausting. I woke up with a powerful one yesterday, several doses of meds, NSAIDs, weed and it brought it down to maybe a 7. Today I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. My body feels like it’s on pause, if that makes sense. I’m buffering lol
Yes
I call then Overhangs. The day after. My eyelashes hurt, and my stomach feels like a rock inside.
Honestly - about the eyelashes - please look after your eyes with regular checkups and use sunglasses; I have glaucoma. Combined with migraine - well, you know the drill.
Yes, my postdrome doesn’t have headache pain, but most times I feel foggy headed and tired like I just rode my bicycle fifty miles.
I sat through dinner last night with a migraine. When we sat down I felt nauseous, exhausted, and thought I’d have to leave the meal early. I had taken a triptan right before we arrived at the restaurant. By the end of the meal I felt so much better I ALMOST got a drink with everyone to celebrate. (I did go, just didn’t drink!) it was an amazing feeling but was like hell getting there
I call it my “migraine hangover” like the main event wasn’t enough 🙃
Oh yeah, feels like a hangover and all my senses turned up to 11 and everything feels fragile.
yep. i’ll generally have a migraine hangover for a day or two after
yep. Literally feels like I just came off a bender every time.
Yes, I feel hung over. 😆
Sometimes I feel like I didn’t sleep at all and came straight from some techno party. Even if I had 11 hours of migraine sleep
Sometimes I don't know which is worse...the actually migraine or the migraine hangover! And trying to explain to people that the pain is gone but I still feel like shit is super fun!
I feel like I have a hangover but never got to have any of the fun that goes with a real hangover.
Pain is exhausting and it makes people look tired. You are also probably dehydrated from throwing up.
