It's week 13 of 2024 and a new week of snarking on our "favorite" healthy living and running influencers. What's in store for this week? Let's discuss!
Healthy Living and Running Influencers, Mar 25 - 31
Fitness & Wellness InfluencersSince she said she's getting divorced a few weeks ago I don't think it's a surprise that Annie is with her dad. But it's definitely hard.
Today's story from E Abb atte showed her cleaning her kitchen??? Why???
Something about it honestly just makes me feel really sad. Thinking about the thought process that goes through her head and setting up the camera, deciding what to wear etc.
I, too, have wiped down my sink.
I wondered the same thing!!!
Will do anything for attention
Thanks to whoever recommended Deena Drossin's book a while back - I'm a week out from my second marathon, and while I'm a back of the pack recreational runner I'm getting a lot out of her story and her mental toughness.
Ok fine I'm 12 days out from my second as well and was considering reading this, I suppose now I will! good luck!!!
You too!!!
Is Elise Cranny no longer with Team Boss? No posts or stories with them recently, and just posted some stories of her running solo 👀
related, did Elise do any podcasts/interviews about the move to Team Boss? Strikes me that I haven't seen any, but may just have missed...I'd be curious to hear
yeah, she did Coffee Club at the beginning of the year (at the 44 minute point if you want to listen)
https://rss.com/podcasts/coffeeclub/1284695/?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email
Thanks!
I think she was on the Coffee Club Podcast in January and discussed the move to Boulder/Team Boss
I’ve always been curious about the dynamics of Team Boss. They appear like one big happy family but if both Kate and Elise have left recently…? (Or if could be just training styles and I’m creating something that isn’t there!)
I’ve always been quite curious…most notably, Kiki Edwards was part of the team a few years ago and then suddenly was not. I looked through her pictures afterwards and noticed that no one from team Boss was liking any of her stuff anymore (this was a lockdown discovery). I have to wonder what the break ups are like
Joe runs a program that is very much my way or the highway and I’m guessing she may have realized that his particular training wasn’t going to work for her.
Wait…used to love following JessBug1122 years ago then she went private on everything. Didn’t realize she’s back and public on IG. Time to stalk
She is now a running coach and left her corporate job 😅
It blows my mind when people do this.
In these situations, I tend to think they came from money, the spouse makes enough to support the family, or their family is supporting them. I can’t even imagine leaving a mostly guaranteed income for a job where the income stream is unreliable.
I feel like her spouse has/had a pretty steady job - maybe corporate insurance. I met her at something years ago and followed for a while and then stopped. She was also teaching pure barre part time. Frankly I’m shocked it took her this long to quit especially if she’s still teaching barre too. She packed a lot into her day with having little kids - that was also something I appreciated about her
As someone who left a corporate job for a PT consulting gig, you're pretty much right. I had enough savings built up that I don't really need a FT income anymore and my time was becoming a lot more important to me...I cannot imagine going into something like this and actually needing to turn it into a full replacement for a corporate income.
I noticed that too… it’s gotta be cadence lock or something right? Like even running downhill at that pace there’s no way she could sustain that…
A race or an easy run?
(ITA that Revel races are BS for BQs)
Are they all point to point ? Assuming so since she’d otherwise have to go back up
Whyyyy would you choose to train like this? Seems so hard on your knees and running UP hills regularly will make your legs so much stronger!
Right? Fuck that
Is Vicky Conroy injured again? Did I miss something?
She’s still waiting on MRI results but I’d put money on it being a BSI.
She posted she’s having some quad pain and is so confused because she’s been upping her mileage so slowly but last week she did 18 mi then 10 mi then 3 mi then 6 mi all back to back with no rest days which seems like…a recipe for disaster if you were injured 2 months ago? Idk im a very beginner runner and she claims to “just want to finish” but that feels excessive
So it looks like her long runs before this were typically 12-14 miles max and her total mileage was in the low 40s. Based on that an 18 miler is a big jump in distance and time, with over 3 hours of time on feet! She might have been OK if she took the next day off to rest or kept it super short/easy to recover, but then she did a 10 miler the following day (which I can’t imagine her coach would have actually programmed like that). It doesn’t seem like she had a big enough base to support doing that kind of mileage over 2 days back to back.
Yeah I feel for Vicky and want her to be well but if you look at her Strava her weekly mileage has gone from 30 to 16 to 42? That seems like a big jump… most say you should increase your weekly mileage by 10% each week.
Yeah also i feel like its not just weekly mileage its intensity without rest days like 31 miles in 3 days when u were just injured is crazy imo. Idk but i did nyc w a stress fracture in my foot and actually just wanted to finish and i only ran 4x a week maxing out at 35 miles a week and never more than 2 days in a row. I feel like she’s being reckless for no reason and then acting like “how did this happen!”
Totallyyyy seems like a big jump but I don’t think Strava tells a full picture - If you go in and look deeper she was doing elliptical instead of miles to reduce some impact given past injuries. I use time on the elliptical to sub miles when my body needs it and it’s been a great tool for me training for my third race!
Ohhh gotcha! Yeah that makes sense. I do like Vicky and feel bad for her =/ injuries suck especially when you feel like you’re doing everything right
At this point I’m confused by her coach and not her
yeah I know social media is only part of the story but it doesn’t seem like she’s been prescribed much or any strength work which for a return to running plan post-injury seems bonkers (coming from someone who also nursed an injury in the fall)
right? like I work with a coach and as someone also coming back from injury, they would never program that for me and we also regularly incorporate down weeks to allow for recovery and avoid injury.
She had posted getting ready for the doctor for an MRI because she’s dealing with quad pain, so she’s waiting on results. Hope it’s nothing serious!!
Fitbymikayla's bf following her on his bike her entire 18 mile run to film her and hand her water... damn, she found the perfect runfluencer significant other 😂 I'm trying to imagine asking my husband to do that (I would NEVER) and the look he'd give me
I did this for my husband today… but I drove in my car after my own run, just met him where he needed water stations, and I stopped for an iced coffee and the little treat I clearly deserved lol
He’s using her for clout and it’s so obvious
I thought the same thing!! My boyfriend got up with me at 3am once so I could do my 12 before a flight. He rode on his bike in the dark next to me with my (small) dog in his backpack and he was like “you are crazy this is absolutely CRAZY I cannot believe you do this I’m never doing this again I am so tired wtf is wrong with runners” 🤣and I haven’t asked since, because I KNOW what the answer will be 🤣🤣🤣
kmm_runs posted yesterday about how she couldn't care about the clothes she runs in and she'll never wear matching outfits to run in. It was giving serious pick me energy. Then followed it up with "I'm sorry if you were offended..."
100% never cared about what she ran in up until now, but definitely care that she felt the need to crap on what other choose to do to make herself feel good about her choices.
It must actually bother her or it wouldn’t even be on her radar to mention. Maybe she should mute whatever accounts she follows that always wear coordinating running outfits.
Wow she is NoT liKE tHE oTHeR giRLs
She needs to take a hard look at herself and her inability to use correct punctuation and grammar before she comes for anyone. Additionally we could already tell she is thoughtless about her clothing because she keeps wearing those goddamn Speeds for STRENGTH TRAINING
There are some indicators that she may be high functioning spectrum. I’m not being an asshole, just a professional opinion of someone who has worked with a lot of students on the spectrum.
Her writing is cringey. I can honestly never follow it!
Did anyone get into NYC Marathon this year? I saw on RW that only 4% were accepted 😳
I am talking to a guy on Hinge who has gotten into the NYC marathon via lottery 3/3 times and I’m like 🤯
I had a 15 minute cushion at a non NYRR full marathon & still got rejected:/. Would love to know what their cut off ended up being for each age category!
SAME! And it was Boston
It’s kind of like when you apply for a job but they don’t hire your bc you need experience (a nyrr qualifier race) but can’t get the ‘experience’ bc it’s so hard to get into any of their races 🙄
Such a good analogy!
I got in via lottery in 2018 on my 6th try. I then applied again for 2022 and got in that time too. I am not local, and while I’d love to run it again, it’s such a $$$ commitment when there are a lot of other travel races I’d like to do.
I got in on the lottery 10 years ago (a friend was the one who really wanted to run it together but only I got in lol) and had no idea how hard it would be to eventually get in hahaha
Not me. I hadn't given it much thought as I thought if you applied with a time qualifier it was a shoo-in (my ignorance!). I saw a headline that said it's about the same acceptance as an Ivy League school lol.
Accepted with non-NYRR time qualifier.
Accepted with NYRR time qualifier @ NYC 1/2, deferred entry last yr bc of injury. Can't wait to go this yr (my first time @ NYC full!).
Do you mind sharing your time? Curious because my friend with a 1:19 half (F, non-NYRR) was rejected, so I can’t imagine what times do get you in!
That's crazy, a few women in my run club got in with 2:55s from CIM. I would think that a 1:19 half on a certified course would be more than enough.
well done!
Not me!
Me either 🥲
I'm in! I entered the lottery for 10 years and didn't get in, so I completed the 9+1 program last year for guaranteed entry. All the races sold out very quickly last year so I bet there were a lot of guaranteed entries this year. The 9+1 qualifying races all sold out within days this year, so I bet the lottery chances are even lower for 2025.
Whew! So much work just to get in. Well done!
It did end up being very fun, I did a bunch of shows and meals with friends as well while in NYC. Luckily I live close enough that I could do a quick weekend trips on the train for races, and I was able to double up a few weekends. I'm also a weird person in that I prefer sleeping away from home for races. I do a bad job clearing my schedule if I'm at home and am not rested enough.
That sounds like such a fun year of running & racing! I don’t live anywhere close to NYC but I’d love to do it the way you did.
No. I ran it many years ago and I’ve been trying to get in via lottery for probably 10 years with no luck.
This was my first year trying - I had no idea it was so hard to get in!
I’ve been applying for eight years and have yet to get that coveted acceptance email.
ugh I feel you. Fingers crossed for your future entries 🍀
Does anyone here follow @callievinsonn? She’s an ultra runner, which I am not—I think I caught a reel of hers that seemed genuine (I mean, relatively) and I liked her and followed. I still really like her vibes—very down to earth— her and her bf? seem fun, and I really admire/am interested in her ultra training though I likely will never do it.
I don’t think I’ve seen her discussed on here, so was curious if folks had thoughts or if there’s something I’m missing (I hope not!)
She’s legit. Really nice in real life too. She and Scott are what’s good about social media.
To echo what everyone is saying, I think she's great and very down to earth. She really does seem to love what she's doing and will take breaks and create boundaries (like taking a day off if she's tired both from running or from influencing). Really balanced stuff!
She's one of my favorite running "influencers" to follow! She seems to approach ultra running as its a fun thing that she loves, and gets to do often, which is super refreshing. I definitely bought the heart shaped sunglasses because of her.
I like her - I agree with others that not oversharing seems to keep more authenticity and probably, keeps people from appearing on feeds too much
I’ve listened to a few podcast interviews she’s done - I think she did one with everyday ultra a year or so ago - and it was interesting to hear more of her running history and backstory
I really like her too! She makes me almost want to run an ultra lol
She's my favorite running follow! Feels like someone who legitimately loves the sport, runs in beautiful places, funny, and her and her bf seem very mutually supportive which is always nice. I have zero snark for her!
I like following her!
I follow her and enjoy her content! She doesn't over-share most of her life outside of running, which I like, i find her content to be a lot more enjoyable than most other running influencers
Endorphins looks like an AI generated run club
Ooh thank you for sharing. Ive always found that whole group and Tyler to be so annoying
No snark, but did anyone see fitbymakaylas recent post? She’s highly snarkable in many areas, but damn the girl can sing!!!! Her voice is beautiful!
Anyone follow runthismomlife? I’ve noticed a shift the last few months where she seems obsessed with work on her face. She’s constantly at that esthetician’s office. Do your thing but it seems like she’s sending mixed messages about body image and what she has championed so hard on
This comment is pretty harsh.
Yesss. She “cured” her body dysmorphia by shifting her obsession to her face
I had to unfollow for this reason. There was less content about running and a lot of mixed messages. Love yourself the way you are, but also get some filler and lots of cute clothes in order to love yourself.
I had to unfollow….. the constant “love yourself”, “why do people use filters it’s harmful” all while having lip filler and whatever other work she’s had done ….
Yes! That’s exactly how I’m feeling. It feels like she’s sending mixed messages. I’m strongly considering unfollowing too
Not snark: race across the states posted a reel about nyc marathon and said she didn’t fuel enough (which I think she previously was saying her fueling was great and she didn’t know what went wrong iirc) and she posted about trying 2 gels during a training run the other day. Is this growth?
I also saw her say recently that she had been building millage and training for her half marathons for over 10 years? I thought she was much newer to more intense training cycles (like maybe 2020ish)
She forever makes me cringe. I had to unfollow her for my own sanity, girl is nuts.
Not snark: no.
I wonder if Mr. TCB ever helps with the night wakeups. Just random Friday morning ponderings based on the reel she just posted again reiterating how badly she has slept for the last couple years due to having a child. I get it. I’m a mom. My partner and I share the associated responsibilities.
The child is 2+, in my opinion as a Mom at that point it’s on the parents, the child is capable of sleeping independently through the night.
I want to know why Nordic track is bringing someone to London who admits she can’t manage training for a marathon even with a fancy treadmill in her house and paying sponsors….
It's totally irresponsible to spend 6 weeks or less training for a marathon - when you have absolutely no base to start with. I can't believe she is being sponsored for this.
ESPECIALLY when you like to style yourself as a running coach. It’s super clear she thinks she’s extra special and doesn’t need to do what everyone else does. Just like how she was going to BQ at NYC on almost no training 🙄 it’s shocking that sponsors want to deal with her. Influencers getting bibs to impossible to get into majors sucks, but at least most of them (Emily A, Peloton folks) actually can be bothered to train
I totally agree. I was blessed with kids who mostly slept thru by 3-4 months and even when they did wake up, my husband and I would split the wakeups. My kids also dropped their night feedings pretty early (can’t remember when exactly but I am guessing 3-4 months??). They’re a bit older now but still little and still wake up sometimes at night, but we just handle it and move on instead of blasting it on the internet and using it as an excuse. Maybe we just managed our expectations better, though. Like yeah… I can’t do the same stuff I used to do pre-kids… it’s kind of part of the deal. The London marathon thing was also definitely a choice. Not sure why she accepted that bib after what happened in NY.
I don't know if this is still true, but in the recent past, she's mentioned that she's still breast feeding. That might impact how many Mr. TCB can help with.
But also knowing TCB, she'll post about this sleep deprivation multiple times a day for the next 10 years so it's a bit hard to tell what's really happening. Just like how she still posts about how much she ran during pregnancy... which turned out to be not that much. Which is understandable and fine, she's just prone to exaggerating and posting about the same thing over and over.
Did everyone see Matt Fox’s Insta stories about a Bester 👀
Has anyone heard about the LA to LV race thespeedproject is doing? Savannahsachdev and jessrhood are doing it (separate teams). I was surprised Savannah was doing an ultra 11 days after the LA marathon but she was probably using the marathon as prep for it?
For anyone following this the first team is about to finish!!!
i ran the speed project last year. depending on how your team splits up the miles, i honestly thought it wasn’t quite as hard as a normal ultra. i ended up running about 55ish miles, but the most i did in one run was 5 miles (which was an outlier because a road was closed for a bike race). most of our relay legs were a mile (or shorter, by the end) as part of our strategy, since you can manage to maintain higher speed for a mile or an 800m at a time much longer than you could if you were doing longer legs
I’ve always loved the idea of doing this (not that I’m anywhere near talented enough that I’d get asked to be on a team!) but always assumed the motion sickness in the RV would get me before the running! That must have been such a cool experience!
the RV was a pretty smooth ride… the jeep and the ATV in the desert was less smooth 😂 it was so much fun!! would highly recommend to anyone if you get offered a spot on a team
That sounds so cool. Did you have to register through a company/org or just with some friends? If so, how do you find friends willing to do it 😅
a friend of mine had an in with an LA based run club that has a team every year, and they asked us to run with their team! i’m hoping to eventually get enough of my local friends interested and do it again as a team (and someday maybe solo….)
Oh, he didn’t make a miraculous recovery? Does this mean he won’t run at all as part of the relay or he’s going to anyway? I’m sure someone there will have normatec boots for him to use.
Welp, we can’t say he’s not a team player!
Savannahsachdev is one of my BEC’s but I hope it goes well for both of them!
Wait I want to hear why you don’t like Sav! She definitely has a big personality that isn’t for everyone but I think she has good intentions!
ShE is nOt liKe tHe oTheR giRLsSS xx (plus toxic run streak and overconsumption)
I like savannah but Mary McCarthy and Anya are my BEC’s 😂
Ooooof Mary McCarthy is god awful :/
Literally. Literally. Literally. Mary please 😭
YourRunningBff was a fave of mine but I just saw her post about running Boston with adidas and immediately sighed lol
This was so disappointing to see! 😒 And also - maybe this is just me - but as a runner of about the same pace, I’d be so terrified and self-conscious to run Boston, knowing I’d never ever actually qualify!
I had to stop following her when she said she was doing her long run on a treadmill, but was going off her Apple Watch distance instead. I believe she said she was running 16 miles so she stopped when her watch said 16, but the treadmill said something like 14.4
I think she deleted the original post and then reposted it this morning! 🤣🤣
Yes!!! She absolutely did delete it and repost this morning!!! A couple of people have asked how she’s running it. It’s really disappointing, she was super relatable and felt more real than others. Unfollow. I want to see LESS Boston hype BS, not more, especially from yet another human that didn’t earn it.
I honestly expected the comments on the repost to be turned off!
I just checked and all the current comments are nice, with like one person asking how she got the bib. She's probably monitoring it 🤣
and you know-Runner Beans still hasn't, uh, spilled the beans that she's running Boston. wonder if she's gonna have beady eyes on her comment section once she does announce it...
Call me crazy but these influencers would likely garner more followers if they took their sponsored bib and offered it to someone who BQ’d, didn’t make the cut off and was hoping for their first year at Boston and then made a reel about THAT person’s experience #justathoughtadidas
That's a GREAT idea!
She’s sold out a ton since she started. She’s all abt sponsors and affiliates and is def not at all how she was when I started following her. Just another influencer now.
I was looking for this. She used to be so relatable. Now, everything is an ad. It would make sense if she were consistent among brands that she genuinely likes, but it’s more about being paid. At this point, she has worn and recommended Adidas and Altra, and then whatever was at Dick’s Sporting Goods with Nike.
Oh and I forgot Brooks with Academy Sports sponsorship. This is like all within a year and half.
Also forgot Hoka with FleetFeet.
Lol so basically anyone who will pay her. Which is fine for her. But it totally changes her brand / niche and I’m just no longer interested.
Ok I was so confused because I just started following her and I liked her because we’re about the same speed… then I was like wait what she’s running Boston?? Makes sense now 😒
Aaaaaaand unfollow. Another one bites the dust.
Same!
Ugh. Immediate unfollow. I don't need more "BoStOn!!! EEEEE!!!!" in my feed.
That is such a bummer. Unfollow for sure. I really liked how she was authentic and real and owned being a back of the pack runner not always on the hamster wheel chasing a BQ. Disappointing.
She’s one of the few runfluencers I like and I had the same reaction. It’s always been refreshing that she’s not always running the same majors (she ran NYC last year but iirc fundraised for a charity to do so) year after year or obsessively chasing a BQ. Fun experience for her, I guess, but yeah - not at all what I think sets her content apart.
If I’m reading her post correctly, it seems like she doesn’t have to fundraise at all, this is just a bib from Adidas, in exchange for content? If that’s the case, this goes back to why Boston gives so many bibs out like this when it takes the place of qualifiers and even fundraisers.
The sponsors would all have negotiated a bib allocation as a part of their deal. If someone is getting it this close to the race date, it likely means it was an ‘extra’. That happens with NY Marathon too, there’s always bibs low key being given away not long before the race.
given Adidas has been one of the longtime flagship sponsors of the race (shoe/apparel-yes, including the jackets, not embroidered!) i'm not surprised they have some bibs to give out.
but yeah...at this point it's like...
I begrudgingly admit this makes sense for Adidas but as someone (yourrunningbff) who was trying to qualify, it seems like bypassing that process and running it with a free bib would feel like a let down.
I’m actually not sure how this makes sense for Adidas. Molly has stated many times that qualifying for Boston is probably not in the cards for her, which is why she chooses to pursue longer distances as a goal vs faster times. Also, most of her followers are average to back-of-the-pack runners as well, so I’m not sure what she’s supposed to be advertising to her audience - it’s not like she was a BOTP runner for 15 years before shaving off enough time to qualify.
I remain mystified.
Yeah, I meant it makes sense Adidas would have many bibs to give out.
But like you, I am equally as confused by the people who are getting these bibs - if they are mid-packers to back-of-the-packers who won’t be qualifying, at most they are promoting the sponsor’s product, which their followers may purchase. I line up to a race mid-pack and it feels like more people than ever have super shoes.
As for what the promotion does for the race, I can’t think it does much. Boston doesn’t need to be promoted for people to be interested. It basically promotes itself just by being a big, difficult marathon to get into.
Thought this was a pretty cool post from Kofuzi on threads. He said he’s given up some free/sponsored bibs lately and will be spectating Chicago this year instead of running it again.
that was pretty cool of him to post.
I don't know if capping the number of times someone is allowed to run is the answer though. But at the very least, I'd like to see someone exercise good judgement when taking a spot...is it because they really want to and are gonna be all in with training/racing it, or "because they can?"
(or...I don't know if this has changed, but I believe with the Boston streakers you don't have to beat the cutoff, just run your BQ time. I know NYCM eventually phased out their guaranteed entry program for those who ran 15+ and just grandfathered those who already got it in...maybe it's time for Boston to follow suit?)
Because for real, I knew people who had guaranteed entry for NYC every year and would sign up and then cancel (thankfully, NYRR nipped that in the bud 10 years ago, you can only defer once now) Or those who were wishy-washy about Boston but signed up "just in case." I think it was Heatherunz a couple of years ago who threw a hissy fit about the vax requirement but still registered because "she earned her slot." Granted, that was one of the years with no cutoff, but still.
The 15+ program for the NYCM still exists! It’s not just people who are grandfathered.
One thing I really like about NYC is that it does offer opportunities for not as fast runners to compete, and a ton of locals run it.
ooh, you're right-wonder when they brought it back! (it was definitely a thing, I remember someone complaining that they were going to fall just short of 15 by the time it got implemented)
Actually the one thing they took away that would probably help now-there used to be a thing that if you got rejected in the lottery 3 years in a row you were guaranteed the following year. (its crazy when you think about how they had to do these things to try and control the guaranteed entries in the early 2010's, it seems like it's more out of control now!)
I saw that and respect him for putting it out there.
Just wanted to post this. I like that Kofuzi is not afraid to call out his own community https://www.threads.net/@kofuzi/post/C5EwXmMLjbm
Really respect him for this. So far, he’s the only one I’ve seen say anything.
This is my take. I was shot down in flames for daring to suggest that they should cap the number of times people can run Boston, so as to free up places for those who haven’t had the chance to.
I can understand why people who live in Boston want to be able to run their hometown marathon frequently, but it is annoying when people from out of town consistently come in to do it every year.
He did get a BQ and earned his place there so fair play on this one.
So Paul Johnson is spray painting roads to mark various milestones? Is that okay? Is there a special washable spray paint or something?
No clue what he is using but my old run club had a spray chalk they would use for routes.
That makes sense!
Matt Johnson is so trashy and obnoxious
Thanks for the tip. Just checked him out and I hate him already.
Thanks, I have a new hate follow
He seems to be the next rising Austin based runfluencer and is really gross, IMO.
did anyone read the andrew huberman piece https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/andrew-huberman-podcast-stanford-joe-rogan.html
the podcast always gave me a weird vibe but I couldn't put my finger on why
Lest we forget that Huberman took Yoga Nidra, a practice that has been around for decades in western culture, renamed it “non sleep deep rest”, and now advertises the benefits like he invented it. He also records his own NSDR tracks and releases them??? Why can’t he just call it yoga Nidra and link to existing practices? Why did he have to take credit for its invention?
I haven’t yet, but I never liked him. He always gave me the ick, and every time my husband would listen to the podcast out loud I felt the need to explain to him why, scientifically, Huberman was not qualified to say what he was saying. I don’t remember which points I made that were good specifically, but it was good enough that my husband stop listening for the most part unless he thought there was something I’d enjoy tearing apart (he’d read the podcast description) Idk something about it made me worry about my life partner investing in. I had been listening to podcast that did a deep dive in the wellness to qanon pipeline at the time, so I’ve been very cautious around many fitness influencers since that point. I’m curious to see if or how the article makes me feel. It sounds like I will find it very validating.
The wellness to qanon pipeline is genuinely scary. (Crunchy/granola left/liberal-ish white woman to alt-right is a related pipeline.) What was the podcast if you don't mind sharing?
Sisters in Hate looks like an interesting read. I've often thought of the alt-right as just LRC incels...it's more than that :/
I listened to the Maintenance phase episode on it and I think an NPR episode! I think there was something else but I can’t find it. There was a whole mini documentary on YouTube I can’t find either. I’ll update if I can!
Maintenance Phase is fun! I always enjoy listening to that one.
Me too! I found their podcast really informative and it really helped break some of the less helpful habits and thoughts I had around food and weight after being involved in the athletic world for an extended period of time.
I’ve been discussing this non-stop with friends the past few days. For me what causes me to rage is how men in positions of power get away with being total scumbags and people just excuse it. His science is also terrible and I roll my eyes every time someone in my running group brings up an episode or some stupid protocol they learned from him.
Sadly, the incels are doubling down supporting him and I don’t think anything will change in terms of his power and influence (misogyny at work…). I do wonder if this is the tip of the iceberg though and more will be coming out. The journalist who wrote the NY mag piece was responsible for breaking the Larry Nassar story I think? She knows what she’s doing…
I’ve never felt like I “enjoyed” listened to his podcast. Maybe the tone/voice but even in ones where the subject matter is pretty straightforward, it came across too “prescriptive”. It made me feel…cold? This guy may be smart but he’s not smarter than he is stupid (and a bunch of other things).
oh boy. He always gave me the icks too. Also how can I befriend his clan of exes (short of being played by him lol). they sound amazing
Emily Abbate’s story about “goes to Japan once” was so obnoxious
