My dog is also not a fan.
FireworksFireworks are already illegal because of the fire risk. If people are willing to burn down your house just to see pretty colors and hear loud booms, they surely don't care about dogs getting scared.
So true
It's not gonna lol
I have a "Please don't let your dog pee on plants" sign.
Still doesn't deter dog owners from letting their dogs piss, destroy my plants as well as shit on them.
There are a hundred signs at the park "NO DOGS" and there are dozens every day.
I think these signs are meant for unattractive people.
Lmfao I’m stealing that! 😂
Giant sign here No dogs on the beach and people bring them, let them shit and don't pick it up. That being said these fireworks scare all animals and honestly are just annoying all night long
I'm convinced that dog owners in LA are the most entitled group. More so than "influencers" or celebrities
Like the park near my house. All the dogs at the unfenced “no dogs allowed!” park are super well behaved nice dogs. All the dogs at the nearby official fenced-in dog park are giant out of control pitbull breeds. It’s no wonder people take their golden doodles to the park instead.
Beeman park in studio city is like this lol
Where my parents live those signs actually work
I can pretty much guarantee that sign encourages them to do it.
Replace it with a sign that asks them to clean up after their dog. It will probably have about the same effect on how frequently they actually do, but it is at least less likely to get people to actively want their dog to go there.
Eh, I don't get mad about dogs. It's not like you can know when a dog is about to pee, and I don't expect dog owners to yank their dogs mid-stream. They have to.go somewhere, so as long as the owner picks the poop up I don't care. It's not like there aren't cats, raccoons and possums and coyotes and birds all pooping and peeing outside.
But fireworks are such a different story. Aside from being illegal, they are noisy, polluting and dangerous.
I agree
I've seen people let their dogs shit directly on those signs
I guess it's not pee and it ain't on the plants, but c'mon man
It will work about as well as asking dog owners to pick up their shit.
why are dog owners shitting outside? /s
Because they get scared of the fireworks
It does the opposite tbh
Wont EVER work, the 4th is tradition and people don’t care about your dogs feelings. | I’m not defending them, I have dogs too, i’m just saying | They just wanna party, get drunk, high, and blow shit up all night long.
My dog died of a heart attack Jan 1, 2023 from the New Years Fireworks. Still to this day, I hate fireworks.
that’s so awful, i’m so sorry. as someone with a kitty who is beyond absolutely terrified of them, i feel for you.
I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences. I had to put down my girl on NYE last year, I knew she would likely not have survived the night.
I’m sorry that’s awful. We could just replace the fireworks with drone shows and we’d all be so much better off.
Nooooo!!!! I’m so sorry 🥺
How old was your dog?
Wow. Were they illegal fireworks? If so, I hope you found whoever lit them off and turned them in. This is my worst nightmare. My dog is deathly afraid of fireworks (any loud bang actually). So sorry for your loss
Hey, how dare you narc on the innocent fireworks blower upper!!!1 /s
Apparently, this subreddit hates folks reporting people for doing something illegal that affects everyone negatively.
Ya. Shame on me. These innocent fireworks blower uppers have no idea of the impact on wildlife too. I’ve heard firsthand stories from animal control and let me tell you, it’s something you don’t forget. But fuck me for being a narc.
Found them and turned them in? Lmfao. Where do people like you come from to think this even might be an option?
Im sorry for them, but the idea that the cops are going to arrest somebody for fireworks because a dog had a heart attack seems so far fetched to me in LA. Especially since it’s the same day you can shoot a gun with barely anybody noticing
My gosh; I am so so so so intensely sorry to read this. Absolutely gutting. My heart goes out to you.
I’m so flipping sorry this happened to your baby and family. Impossible to stop fireworks so it seems as they are going off now at all times where I live but I did see some headphones to block out noses and a vest to help them feel safe from the booms. I lost my baby a few years back and he hated them as well. Only discovered the headphones a week ago on a ad so I hope they help those who can get them in time.
Ugh I’m so sorry.
Also, this makes me so angry that people don’t have compassion for animals.
That’s awful! I’m so sorry. I hate fireworks even more now.
Oh my God. How horrific. I'm so so sorry 💔
People in my neighborhood are always fucking shooting these off and our pets are so frightened by them. Makes me livid.
I'm so so sorry again, this breaks my heart
I’m so sorry for your loss. My older dog has been absolutely terrified of fireworks for the whole time we’ve had her, and she used to be so miserable this time of year that we’d “board” her with my parents for a few days around 4th because they live in a much quieter area. It never occurred to me that it could actually have endangered her health and safety in addition to leaving her shaking and terrified.
She’s gone very deaf the last few years and the only upside is it spares her much of her previous suffering this time of year.
I really haven't been able to sleep peacefully since leaving the military in general.
That is compounded every Fourth of July from sundown till the fireworks stop I am not here, I am reliving the worst days of my life when I was a teenager (19 during deployment) when I witnessed the best friends I made die or be mangled in front of me.
I am not asking anyone to stop, but that's my personal relationship with fireworks, so I share to give a wider example of the effects beyond spooking animals or waking up babies.
The fireworks seriously stress me out every year, but you put that into better perspective. Thank you for sharing your experience. My heart goes out to you.
Yeah man I totally get where you're coming from I have a similar relationship with loud noises, fireworks and random gun shots.Anxiety through the room.Smh
Thank you for serving and protecting our great nation. 🇺🇸 I’m sorry you had to witness your friends’ deaths and suffering. And thank you for sharing your experience.
Yea right. These people are willing to burn down your house with fireworks just because it's fun, they don't give a fuck about your dog being scared.
Sadly true.. These are the same people that would have a gender reveal in a fire-prone forest
Fireworks are perfectly fine… on the 4th. Not for two weeks surrounding the date. This may come as a shock to some, but not everyone is a bum who doesn’t have to get up early for work or school, care for small children, etc. The amount of entitled brats who say “jUsT dEaL wItH mY fReEDoM tO mAkE nOiSe” is astounding.
Only two weeks surrounding the date? *laughs in East LA*
My dog has been terrified for the past month
Yeah was gonna say that shit starts in May around here. My dog literally will not go on walks after dark from May-Sept. Fuck all you people and your fireworks.
Chinatown here. I dont think I havent heard at least a few fireworks every night since 2020.
Van Nuys here. Oh, fireworks again, it must be 5 days until fill in random holiday
No joke there are assholes setting off M80s in the street.
A couple years ago, there was a family, I think in Moreno Valley, that had gone on vacation for the 4th and when they came home, they found their house had burned down.
Apparently someone in the neighborhood was shooting off fireworks, a tree or shrubs or something caught fire, and it caught their house on fire, and it burned to the ground.
I don't understand the logic. People are like "yea, my neighbor's house might burn down, but it's a small price they have to pay for my own good time."
same logic that makes people drive drunk, do a hit and run, steal your shit, or argue with a bouncer about how they should be allowed in or back in to a bar. lots of people aren't considerate...that is just life sadly.
I’d go further and say they’re perfectly fine…on the 4th…and at a professional display. They’re illegal to set off in LA for good reason. People start fires all over Los Angeles every year with fireworks, blow off body parts, and on July 5 the air is completely unbreathable city-wide. It’s gotten out of hand the last few years. It’s a public health nuisance.
And all those dry, chaparral covered hills everywhere just waiting to catch fire. Firefighters have it rough this time of year.
Hope the person setting off fireworks past midnight blows up their own fingers
Where do you live? Around me it’s just gangbangers who do this and I’d rather deal with the entitled brats tbh
I lived in OC for many years, I imagine there’s even more fireworks in the city. I remember an actual brush fire starting one year and watching a helicopter tender dump water on it, was kind of funny at the time but must have been nerve wracking for the people living just uphill.
Gang members tend to be entitled brats. That's why they join gangs instead of getting a job and contributing to society.
Every gang has a cool amount of members that work 9-5’s believe it or not😂
That's after the healthy prison sentence mellows them out
Starts in late May in my neighborhood! And they're all illegal fireworks from Mexico. No safe and sane.
Not just dogs! I'm a jumpy bitch and I don't need this stress.
Not just dogs, cats, birds, squirrels, raccoons, coyotes and more.
Applies to some of us humans, as well.
Imagine the sound of a bomb a block away to a 1 year old baby sound asleep.
I fucking HATE these assholes.
I don’t have to imagine this 😣
Too true
OP where is this ????
Most people lighting fireworks since May, (), are NOT people who are consistently considerate of others. [+]
People that live near Disneyland, Anaheim Stadium, Dodgers Stadium, etc.... I don't even hear most fireworks anymore. It's like growing up with a grandfather clock that chimes on the 15s
I’m by dodger stadium totally true
The only way to do this is to actually crack down and penalize people setting off fireworks. LE does nothing to actually enforce rules in place and punish people for their fireworks use.
So tempting to fight fire with fire and just lob and shoot off firecrackers directly into offending backyards. Pretty sure they would start complaining about fireworks use.
NY has a "snitch fee" - people who report their neighbors for lighting fireworks get a fraction of the fine if LEO can validate the complaint.
Fewer fireworks + more discretionary income? Win-win.
Ooh, this has promise!
The 75% of people who don't want their houses burnt down don't get a vote, because 'people love fireworks'.
If you aren't willing to literally document your neighbors, and organize a dozen people on your block to file police reports, it's low priority for 'the system'.
LE does nothing to actually enforce rules in place and punish people for their fireworks use.
Just in the last week there have been 3 major busts of illegal fireworks, one of which was the largest in California state history. What are the police supposed to do? Find and arrest every single individual person who lets off an illegal firework? That’s pretty tough considering the vast majority of this stuff is 100% legal to buy in Mexico.
No—but putting the hammer down on a select few individuals in various neighborhoods and publicizing their punishment goes a long way to affecting the behaviors of others. When people see their friends and neighbors getting hit with tough fines and arrests, they’re less likely to participate. It isn’t about 100% compliance but you need to make an example out of some folks.
This past Thursday, someone in my neighborhood lit off very loud and bright ones at 2:00 am. So, like, why would you care about people when you could just be a dick instead?
This is like every other night for us, many times between 2 to 4 am. And they aren't small either.
Luckily I grew up with dogs that weren't afraid of Fireworks.
Your neighbor who just got sick ass fireworks from his cousin in TJ is probably not gonna pay too much attention to this
flair checks out
Yup. I have two dogs and my neighbors have been blasting off M80's for weeks now. They could care less about anyone's dogs.
How does one be considerate to the frightened dogs on 4th of July ??
buy them doggie ear protection
It’s good you put a picture of a dog because if it was any person or a human baby people would launch bigger louder fireworks in protest
The sad chocolate Labrador was a good choice
I just want to take him or her into my arms and say "It's okay, bud"
I had a cocker spaniel growing up and I still remember how she'd hide under the dining room table during fireworks
Add rabbits to these posters :( My bunnies HATE fireworks. They hide under my bed terrified … I got them a sound machine for this year but idk how much good it will do
I think my favorite part about July 4th is that it's like a celebration of our nation but we just set off fireworks that cause PTSD in veterans, fucks over wildlife, and scares everyone's pets. It's very American to only care about your own desire to blow shit up in your backyard or on the street.
For our dog, we'll put a Thundershirt on him and that helps a little so that the run up to the 4th or NYE isn't as bad, and we've learned that if we head upstairs/away from our front door, he's able to tolerate it all a little more. On the actual night of the 4th, it just sucks. It's sucked for every dog I've ever owned. I remember when I was a kid, our dog got stuck between the wall and the fridge (we got him unstuck and he was ok). We just never go out on those holidays because we're just making sure our little dude is ok.
That being said, and as much as I personally care about the issue, no one is going to give a fuck about the sign. I just sit back, try to keep our dog safe, and wonder how many people will lose an eye, or a digit, or suffer some other life-changing injury in order to hear something make a big boom.
They got doggie earmuffs on Amazon
I am not a dog but also not a fan
Liar
Good luck with that.
I'm not a dog & I still hate fireworks.
They scare me too. :-(
Sure you aren’t.
These ignorant people can care less. I can already see the news stories of people losing fingers and burning structures down.
I am not a fan either. They always blow illegal ones up right over my house, and the reverb and sudden noise gets me every single time. I usually drug myself with benadryl on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th since those days are usually the worst. The pets always have their sedatives, so we can all knock out early.
If only everyone would worry about how the other people feel about their actions!
Some of these fireworks are just going for the BANG. They don’t even care about the “art” aspect anymore, just how loud it is and how many people they wake from their sleep.
Exactly.
Please be considerate and stop taking your dogs to stores.
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!
I hate these assholes.
Honestly. Saw two dogs in Target yesterday. One was being carried but the other one was on a leash walking around like it was at a park.
Buying fireworks is the ultimate waste of money. When I see someone at the booth buying fireworks I already know they are financially illiterate.
Please be considerate. 🐶 Someone in your grocery store is allergic to dogs.
Sadly, this sort of thing will only encourage some people.
This past Friday night my room-friend and I went out to the Venice pier to chill by the beach and enjoy the waves. Coming back to the car, some motherfucker set A Literal Stick of Dynamite firework in the middle of the parking lot not even 50 feet away from us, and a hundred feet or so from packed patio dining areas.
Startled the hell out of me but I was mostly OK. Unfortunately my friend had just gotten into the car, with all the doors closed, as I was still loading her wheelchair the hatchback open. Poor thing got the entire pressure wave in the car. She has sensitive hearing to begin with, so she was in PAIN pain for a good hour or two after that. Almost wanted to go to Urgent Care, it was so bad.
I personally don't have a problem with people setting of rogue fireworks. It's FREEDOM, whatever. But do it away from public places. The assholes that did what they did could have literally killed someone. (What if we were driving over that explosive when it went off?) It's really bad that in society today there are too many people don't give a shit about other people (and doggos)!
I hate fireworks they make my cat pee
The same douchebags firing their Tijuana Toiletcrackers imported from Arizona at 5:30am either (1) don’t own dogs, or (2) own dogs but never feed them, leash them, or get aggressive at you when you confront them about that dog continuously barking all day.
is not owning a dog supposed to be an insult
😂 I think so
Who are the assholes who like fireworks? And why?
Your friends from Tijuana are the majority.
I’d hate to have my whole block burn to the ground because some manchild was gleeful to make a buncha booms. 🙄
My dog is afraid of almost everything, but she doesn’t seem to care about fireworks. It’s pretty weird. She not def or anything. I consider myself one of the lucky ones
I don’t understand why people feel the need to set off industrial grade fireworks at home to celebrate. Get regular firecrackers and go see a professional show. Most of them are free and if you don’t want to be around people, drive a mile away from one and park.
.... I've only lived in LA for 5 years and even I know to just leave the city on firework holidays.
Have y'all ever gone to Mulholland or the hills and looked at the sheer frequency of fireworks. It's like some ppl are in denial and think "they'll listen to the sign THIS year for sure even if they spent hundreds of dollars on illegal fireworks from Mexico".... Its like its y'alls first time being here.
I live in Santa Monica, there is literally no where I can go where my dog won't be in hearing distance of a fireworks show.
Fireworks are terrible for the environment, super dangerous, and terrible for animals. It’s crazy they’re still legal.
They are illegal without a permit in Los Angeles.
Oh I actually didn’t know that, good info thanks!
they’re not legal, at least the ones that rattle your house or set off car alarms.
They’re illegal but you know how L.A. gets down lol
My dog currently has her head burrowed between my pillows. She shakes when it gets really bad. I hate this season.
MLK and Main Street. Fireworks been going off every day for weeks now. All hours too, during the day time when you can’t even see it and even now at 430am someone’s setting some off
you assume they can read
I hate this time of year.
If you don't care about the animals or the law, consider the veterans who have returned home. I love fireworks just as much as the next person, I just choose to love my vets more.
Not just dogs, but babies and toddlers. It's rage inducing to see my 3 y.o. terrified, crying flinching and jumping because some retardos get their wayvos off lighting industrial grade boomsticks at every given opportunity
I love fireworks. The lights, the sounds. They can be a lot of fun, but there is a place for them and that place isn’t in the middle of a neighborhood. All of these assholes have the same attitude of, “It’s not a big deal. We’re just having fun”. It is a big deal and it really upsets some people and animals. Idk why it’s so hard for some people to just be considerate.
People aren't taught mannerisms any more. The pandemic really showed this.
Fuck the bozos who start to pop fireworks a month before 4th of july its so annoying
Being a pet owner comes with certain responsibilities. Such as taking special precautions when the outside conditions are unsafe for pets. Such as but not limited to extreme cold, heat, rain, sounds and light. It's owner's responsibility to take reasonable precautions.
FUCK FIREWORKS. Living in LA has made me hate them so much. Nothing but noise pollution that terrorizes all animals and plenty of people too. Wish the police actually gave a shit to eradicate this problem
No more fireworks at all because of dogs is crazy. This will never take.
I think it’s more ‘save it for the 4th,’ which feels more than reasonable
A whole month of fireworks kind of sucks tbh
Maybe go to a fireworks show if you want to see fireworks? They make the air unbreathable this time every year, start fires all across the city, terrorize pets and vets with PTSD, and it’s annoying af. They’re illegal for good reason. Thinking that your desire to blow shit up trumps all of the above is wildly selfish and antisocial.
So glad to be flying off for vacation on July 4 this year
Yeah, July 4th in LA sucks.
I'm with ya.
It's harassment
I'd rather see a sign reminding dog owners to pick up their shit and not to bring them into markets, because unlike fireworks, this issue is every day, year round
LOL nah, this doesn't fit the rhetoric on this sub.
DTLA has been poppin' off for 2 weeks now--my dog is living her own personal hell. Moved her bed into the bathroom, got a few white noise machines, and will have CBD treats on-hand.
Can't wait for it to be over, tbh.
There's doggie ear muffs on Amazon
Got those too!
how do I get one of these signs in Spanish?
Found a bunch on google
The scumbag element in this city gets so old.
Oh, jerk me dry…..
I thought it would be a great idea to report listings that are blatantly advertising illegal fireworks on Facebook. Does facebook give a shit? Nope. Even after requesting multiple reviews, because some guy had a POS playstation controller in front of a literal arsenal of mortars facebook was okay with it. And of course there is no actual person you can to at facebook. They've long since axed their human censors.
Is there nothing for their ears?
Let’s face it, a lot of LA is littered with entitled dog owners, who bring their pets with them to places that they don’t have business being. Aside from those asshats, we have people like you - who probably don’t speak up when people push the acceptable boundaries and bring dogs that have no business being outside of their home with them.
That makes it really hard to listen to an appeal for consideration for your / or others dogs.
The same can be said for people who leave their dogs outside unattended for long periods of time, or leave them alone unattended.
Having a dog is not the same as having a child. If you want consideration for your “fur baby” then make sure they are trained. You should be trained as well. That means getting a thundercoat, or setting up a white noise machine in an internal room in your residence.
There is a lot you can do inside your home before you ask me to make changes to mine.
If you don’t agree with me, take it up with Voltaire.
The problem is fireworks can be heard from neighborhoods away.
People that are obsessed with fireworks are such giant losers, I don’t even know what else to call them. Literal monkey brain people that cannot think beyond “wow shiny lights and loud sounds!!!!!”
I mean. We know what to call them. lol
"I have to deal with your dog barking and dog shit on the sidewalk all year. you can deal with a night of fireworks."
- standard fireworks enjoyer response probably
Sorry dog, you've been barking all year.
Somewhat ironically, there was a fireworks show last night that appeared to be coming from the dog park in Eagle rock near the 134.
Mine either.
My cats have entered the chat
Oh but the rest of the year they bark non stop and I'm supposed to be ok with it??
I will be down voted into oblivion.
The aholes that let their dogs bark all day are the same aholes lighting up fireworks. They’re the ones that don’t give a shit about anything but themselves.
LOL dog owners really are some of the most entitled people on the planet, aren't they? 😆
Forget training your dog to not be a scary little pipsqueak like so many other dog owners are capable of doing - its everyone ELSE that's the problem.
Well, people are allowed to celebrate the 4th. They’re not going to stop the fireworks because of this sign or because your dog doesn’t like them. My pets have never had a problem with fireworks. Be a proactive pet owner and buy one of those thunder vests or play classical music.
I love how these type of posts attracts xenophobes and racists like flies to shit
This sign won’t work because it’s not in Spanish. Why is no one saying the quiet part out loud? By far, the worst offenders of this are SoCal hispanics. It’s a weird shitty part if SoCal Latino culture, and they don’t give a shit about your dog or house.
Sorry but I love fireworks 🎆
LOL. Every year I look forward to reading the anti-firework posts in this subreddit.
I love it when affluent transplants get butthurt during this time of year. If you can afford to gentrify the neighborhood, you can afford to skip town for a couple days with your dog haha.
First world problems. I come from a part of the world where fireworks are part of our culture. Some of our animals are certainly stressed by them but most learn to live with them. Good luck this 4th.
If your culture poses a risk to people’s properties, mental health, physical health, environment health, animals (pets and wild) and is also illegal - it’s time to evolve your culture to fit within human society
You're assuming I'm advocating for fireworks, I'm not. I follow local laws. I was offering a different perspective from a different part of the world where most animals learn to live with fireworks. I'm quite happy and thankful that my culture will continue with its traditions and in the meantime, I will observe the local laws. Have a fantastic day and happy 4th!
Going by your criteria, no culture is worthy of fitting into “human society”. Think about it.
The older I get the more I understand how dogs feel. Those big booms really rattle my nerves these days. Soon I'll be fighting pets for under-bed real-estate. Where are these damned whippersnappers getting these nukes that almost break windows?

They’ve been going off since last week for us. And not just weekends but every weekday. Wakes me up, wakes up my super stressed out dog and no one sleeps well every god damn night.
My poor cat Oliver is deathly afraid of all the booms and explosions that start in late May in my neighborhood! No consideration. He's hiding under the bed most of the night these days! I will be glad when the Fourth is over! It's like a war zone here (Los Angeles) for two hours after the sun goes down on July 4! I'll put some music on and put in my earplugs, probably.

OK fine guess I need to take these poor baby's feeling into consideration.
Exactly why I leave the city and take my dogs to my in-laws for a few days.
I just naturally assume that the people setting off the fireworks in my neighborhood are probably the same losers that think drinking a six pack and barely feeling a buzz makes them "cool". Lowlives the lot of them, my dog freaks the hell out and for what?! So they can see a firework for like 2 seconds.
The Aholes lighting off the fireworks don't care.
I wish this worked, but I'm extremely skeptical.
