Justice served! That food thief got what they deserved
Really took a bite out of crime
The former actor pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 16 years in prison. McGruff the Crime Dog is a cartoon bloodhound that was created in the early 1980s for the National Crime Prevention Council used by U.S. police in spreading crime awareness. https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/cltr/mcgruff-the-crime-dog-prison.html#:~:text=John%20Morales%2C%20the%20actor%20who,of%20ammunition%20at%20his%20residence. Thanks for the strategy even one of my dog is like this eats other's food first and no one dares to touch his and then eats his but I wonder will it work on dogs🤔😅I have to try
You could try feeding them in separate rooms. Put a door between the food thief and others' food.
Yeah I mostly feed extra firstly to that thief and run to a separate room to feed others 😂 LoL
Right? This has to be incredibly stressful for both cats in the video. Soon they’ll be scheduling an appointment to come see me at the vet to find out why their cat started peeing out of the litter box
Wait until you guys hear about these things called doors
Wait until you hear about this thing called “open concept” ;)
Even your bathrooms are open in this concept?
I trained my husky to sit and wait for food. Took several weeks but now he does wait until I give him the “good boy, you can eat.” He even waits without any order. I’m working on my sons husky, but hes bot very disciplined so its challenging. When I started with my dog , it took him him a few days to learn sit, stay. Then getting him to do it, while I was out of sight. Go around a comer then come back. Adding 5 seconds each day. Now he waits automatically and its great. I can feed the cats, get his food or do something urgent and he just waits.
r/Cattraining is possible too!
Good luck trying to train a cat
Actually its not impossible, both my cats are trained to come and sit on my desk if I call them. They LOVE that soft cat treat stuff. Getting them to sit is bit more challenging since you have to get them to do it and not touch them. I hold the food in a way that makes them sit to get it. Give them a lick, click the clicker. Repeat several times.
Did someone say it was impossible?
What a jerk
Oh, look, a furst person shooter.
I'll see myself out.
I read somewhere that squirting cats with water bottles is supposed to be bad.
I still haven't figured out why. Anybody want to explain?
It's because cats don't make the connection between undesired behavior and positive punishment. To the cat, making a beeline for food is an instinctive behavior. When you spray them, their brain goes straight past "Damn, they must not want me to eat that food!" to "Damn, this human is being a dick."
All positive punishment does is make them avoid the source of the punishment, ie. the human, not the behavior the human dislikes. It just makes neurotic cats.
Negative reinforcement and punishment for bad behavior doesn’t work in pets, they can’t comprehend the message you’re trying to send. They’d just think you’re suddenly being rude, get stressed and fearful of you and the said behavior might even increase.
Looks like the cat comprehended it.
GENERALLY negative reinforcement is bad, because cats and dogs generally have trouble with cause and effect, moreso the more abstracted and distant the consequence is.
However, providing resistance to present and active behavior as demonstrated, is going to be better. 'Ahh! When I try to go get the other cat's food I get sprayed!'
If the cat say knocked something off the counter and you went over and sprayed it, it likely wouldn't get it.
If a dog jumps on you and you catch it by the forelegs and slowly lean it back so it feels awkward and uncomfortable, that's good.
Putting a dog in a timeout or yelling at the dog won't make sense to the dog.
Basically, if you must use negative reinforcement, it should be only if positive reinforcement makes no sense or is impossible, and it should be immediate while the behavior is occuring.
Say you have a dog that barks at every noise outside and it's super annoying. Two things have a good chance of working: An ultrasonic anti-bark device (it makes a tone that only the dog can hear when it barks), or rewarding it for doing a different behavior in response to the noises, like coming over to you to get your attention.
Yelling at the dog to stop barking just makes the dog think you're barking along with it. Telling the dog 'since you were so good today, you get a hamburger' will make no sense to the dog, but they'll be happy to eat the hamburger and love you for it, but it won't reinforce the good behavior.

So you admit they can associate things but then they can't associate them with specific actions?
Do cats even understand spray bottles? Do they comprehend that the human is "shooting" them?
Anyway, from personal experience I've seen cats learn not to get on tables and countertops thanks to being sprayed, and they remain friendly as ever to their humans and owners.
It’s always greener
Imagine being that cat and it starts raining every time you want to have dinner with a friend. Now that cat has to explain to her why he's always late but somehow always has time for after-dinner cuddles.
tower defense irl
I’m Canadian so idk if it’s different in America but are you wearing your shoes in the house
Some Americans wear their outside shoes in the house. Some have house shoes. I have comfy shoes I just wear in the house. Slippers make my feet too hot, so I have a pair of house Crocs
idk if it’s different in America
America is a HUGE place. there are few things that all Americans do. a Hawaiian and a Mainer are both Americans, but probably live very different lives.
to also confound things: i personally have both been a 'shoes off' and a 'shoes on' person at various times. so, things can change, even.
currently I am a 'houseshoes' type-- I have a pair of light sneakers that have literally never been outdoors. they are, as such, little more than socks. likewise, any footwear that's been heavily soiled/ gotten wet outside does get left at the door.
Yall mufuhs out here wearing shoes. I walk barefoot like 85% of my life.
I do some barefooting...just not always, like when it's cold as balls, outside
I didn't end up doing it on purpose really. I just really don't like the feel of stuff on my feet. So I don't wear shoes or socks if I don't have to. Since I work from home and am kind of a homebody anyway, I only wear them if my gf or friends force me out of the house lol.
I work from home and am kind of a homebody
highfive, teammate!!
I used to be shoeless in the house at all times (American here) until plantar fasciitis came a knocking. Now it’s shoes inside and out of the house.
I’m not the one in the video, but it’s about 50/50 in my experience whether or not people wear shoes inside. I do, but ultimately I don’t really care if others do or not, and I’m a firm believer in “your house, your rules” so if someone asks me to go with or without shoes I will.
I don’t feel fully dressed unless I have shoes on and I have a hard time getting into the right mindset to be productive without being fully dressed, so unless I’m planning to just lay around all day I throw on some shoes in the morning. Also my dog goes in and out multiple times a day so keeping dirt off the floors is impossible, and I just don’t like going barefoot and have yet to find a pair of slippers that I like.
I have a pair of indoor sneakers ONLY worn indoors. This really helps me feel more productive and move around quicker when I’m doing chores and cleaning.
I’ve thought about doing something like that, but honestly any benefit l might get is outweighed in my mind by the expense of getting good ones (I don’t buy cheap shoes anymore, I got sick of them wearing out in three months) and the inconvenience of having to change shoes if I leave the house.
Those look like Croc-type shoes. Some people use them as house shoes.
Yes they are. A significant subset of Americans are barn animals.
Don't believe the tales you hear about how they often wash their floors. It's just wishful thinking. The amount of American homes I've been in where they wear shoes and their floors are just filthy and disgusting is all of them.
My floor is filthy af. Upvoted out of shame.
You often lick your floors?
Get a load of this guy, he can't lick his own floors.
You do seem like a floor licker
Those look like Crocs or imitation crocs, which are like rubber slippers.
how is the feet sweating in those?
I had to forego regular slippers because I can’t wear socks inside (I get in a bad mood if my feet are hot/sweaty) so it’s just barefoot all the way for now
I wear crocs everyday in the house and I think they are the most comfy slippers ever. A lot of people will say they are ugly though.
The true way
I am an american and as others said its 50/50. We dont (I actually feel weird if I walk on my carpet in shoes) but some families do or don’t mind if guests do. We don’t ask people to take shoes off but most guests do.
Depending on where you are in the country it’s pretty common to wear them in the home.
I have diabetes. I wear shoes everywhere. A foot injury could lead to me losing an entire foot.
also have a food thief in my house... but the water gun doesnt work
You might want to sleep with the door closed
ONG I have one like that too. We have to feed them in separate rooms with the door closed. It’s pretty annoying.
Ah, the good old squirt bottle. Never fails. Well, almost never. I've had a couple cats who just took it and didn't care lol
What a little shit. Is this common in cats?
This is common in every animal, you baboon.
Humans included
Yea you never seen a female of any species before? Even in humans women will just steal your food even if they have a plate of it too
💀
You have to be a deeply weird person to make a video about cats into a misogynist manifesto
I agree but 'manifesto'? lol.
Manifesto is a great word, let's not misuse it to score points.
Cut him some slack he just got done raging about lenin on a vtuber cat thread hes got commun-aids all over his mind prolly cuz the supreme court and trump shit
Hey we aint friends, I'm protecting words, not you.
That's ok you should still cut him some slack its been a tough week for him.
No mercy for those that contribute to language decay. We've lost so many great words.
Someone's never had their fries stolen and it shows
Yes
Don't think so, this seems like this specific cat's personal petty problems.
So one cat is getting wet food (for whatever reasons) and the other one who also wants the wet food, is getting dry food.
So instead of spraying it with water, why not feed them in separate rooms if you can't give them both wet food? So you can make a "funny" video for likes?
I had the same problem with my cats, so I started to put their food on a big plate and now they eat together. Good luck!
Until the orange cat slaps the other eating one, even though there are more than enough food for both. Personally experienced seeing such cat interactions 😂😂😂
I have to do this sometimes too!
I have to put the bottle between him and the other cat so he can see it, and it deters further theft attempts. If I hold it above their eyeline it won't do anything since he is staring at the food bowl on the ground.
LMAO 🤣
It is in the DNA brother.
Oh look, another repeat sub of 12 other subs because Reddit needs ad money
Let the cat have some of the good stuff ❤️🐾
Huk tuah
This is good.
It’s always sad to see those cat owners who just shrug their shoulders at bad behavior and say “what are you gunna do? They can’t be trained”
YES THEY FUCKING CAN
Cats are capable of learning, they simply lack the drive to please you like many dog breeds.
I would put another dish of food there before blasting my cat with water.
I recommend warming food thief's food slightly so it smells more and is more enticing then the other plate.
Excellent idea 😻
My ex had to get two smart feeders that only open up based on a cat's chip, to keep one cat from eating all the food lol
That's the equivalent of a sound AHT AHT!!! 😂
/u/low-yak Why is it not recommended to spray a cat with water to correct their misbehavior
Spraying a cat with water to correct their misbehavior is not recommended for several reasons:
Negative Reinforcement: Using water to spray a cat is a form of punishment, which relies on negative reinforcement to stop a behavior. This can create fear, anxiety, and stress in the cat. It can damage the bond between the cat and the owner and may lead to even more behavioral issues.
No Long-Term Solution: While spraying a cat with water may stop a behavior temporarily, it does not address the underlying reason for the behavior. Cats may not understand why they are being sprayed, so they may continue the behavior when the owner is not present.
Alternative Training Methods: There are more effective and humane ways to train a cat and correct unwanted behaviors. Positive reinforcement techniques, such as rewarding good behavior with treats or toys, are generally more effective in the long run and help strengthen the bond between the cat and the owner.
Physical and Emotional Harm: Spraying a cat with water can cause physical harm if water gets into their ears or eyes, leading to potential health issues. It can also cause emotional harm by making the cat anxious or fearful of the owner.
Trust and Relationship: Cats are sensitive animals, and using aversive methods like spraying them with water can damage the trust and relationship between the cat and the owner. It is important to build a positive and trusting relationship with your cat through patience, understanding, and positive reinforcement.
Overall, it is best to avoid using punitive methods like spraying a cat with water to correct misbehavior and instead focus on positive reinforcement and other humane training techniques to encourage good behavior in cats.
M’y male cat is a good thief to my two female cats - they have the same kind of dry and wet food.
Unfortunately this only works for a few times, then the cats get brazen and ignore the water completely.

I would have shot him one more time at the end just for thinking about it.
Wow! Really?
What's an easy way to add these sound effects?
Fire a gun off camera at the same time.
Imo, this is the ONLY way to deter a cat's bad behavior, although some claim it's very cruel. I also use an Oscar Mayer weenie whistle. My cat hates the shrill wavering tones.
haha water defend
You should just separate cats in different rooms while feeding… spraying with water is not necessary and is negative reinforcement. Jackson Galaxy has great videos.
I use a spray bottle on my girl (pomsky) when she jumps on the grandbabies and knocks them down. Best deterrent in the world!
She's ruining the floorbaord.
Jackson galaxy strongly recommends not doing this to your cat.
I don’t know what he says about specifically doing it to create a temporary barrier to train a young cat not to steal food, but it’s very different than spraying adult cats to punish or stop them when they do something wrong.
Amazing you are getting down votes. Work with the cat and stop abusing your animals.

You're right you can't be fixed but it's all good
Excellent reply.
Didn't ask for your opinion bottttt
Opinions are like assholes. Every one has one.
well at least you aren't overreacting........
The spray was used only when the cat was making a move towards the other food. This can be a sucessful training method if done immediately when the unwanted action is performed by the cat.
As long as this is the only instance it is used and isnt used for every undesirable action the cat makes, this is fine.

If thats the case why is the cat in the post only trying to eat what the other cat has and not his own food in his own bowl? It clearly has food in its own bowl but because the other one has food it HAS to eat theirs instead. This cat is just a douchebag that would rather let the others starve to satiate its own hunger.
Overfeeding is absofuckinglutely a form of animal abuse.
That sounds like you don't have a really gluttonous cat. This strategy does NOT work with my orange. He would eat until he pukes (been there, done that). Free feeding is NOT an option, I have to ration his meals, bc he just doesn't understand the concept of unlimited resources.

It's fine if they do, really. But this doesn't change the fact that it wouldn't work with my (and many other) cats.
