Just pressing the keys down doesn't make them hit the ribbon/paper. You have to type with force. The momentum makes the typebars go all the way.

You do have a paper guide. It's the chrome piece on the left in pic two. It slides to where you want it.
I have used sculpey clay to make parts for my SC Coronet Super 12. Works great. Doesn't look perfect but gets the functionality back.
If you have houseplants then those are fungus gnats. Sprinkle diatomaceous earth on top of the soil.

Draw, make collages, copy your favorite song lyrics, write lists, press flowers and leaves, spill coffee on the page in interesting patterns, write in cypher, etc and so on and on. It all counts as a way to journal.
For all of 2023 I used several of my typewriters to keep a daily poetry journal. One poem each day that referenced something I did or thought about during the day. Some days I did more than 1.
