Housing prices are untenable actually everywhere that housing isn't subsidized. Why? Housing is a commodity to be traded around until it lands in the hands of someone who will build a company to rent the housing. But with enough layers of corporate abstraction that the rent is untenable.
And the market "value" of other homes are inflated because you're competing with investment banks around the world to bid on your next home.
And the Job Market is screwed almost entirely around the world.
Why? We have these parasites called "billionaires" soaking up all the money they can, and will do whatever they can to avoid paying laborers what they're worth. Its why Unions exist - so that we don't have to subsidize our ability to keep working for these leeches. Every country with Capitalism has this problem. Including China.
Inflation is a crisis in almost every country around the world. Why? Central Bankers only have the same set of tools.
And with income inequality rising, those banks and billionaires get to bid-up the prices of commodities while the rest of us have to settle with what we can afford.
The corporate near-monopolies get to raise prices as they wish, outpacing any gains in our wages.
This is not unique to any country.
The Job Market, the Real Estate Market, and Inflation are all crises shared by basically everywhere touched by Capitalism right now - including China.
This is the noose to make WFH too costly. The company doesn't want WFH, but wants to be able to say "they offered".

If the home WiFi router has to be downstream of the one for work, put a VPN on it out to mullvad. Use shadowsocks as the first hop for protocol obfuscation. If a VPS is affordable, you may need to get one to use as the shadowsocks proxy [instead of / in addition to] using the VPN.

In the middle, we find an average replacement rate of enough kids to maintain current population - but that requires having our needs met. And the ability to reliably predict that will stay the case. And that's not our world.
