Oh what a sweet face
According to that terrible map centerpoint posted yesterday, we should be in the “May 20” restoration area (if I’m reading it correctly, which is a big if).
I’m still not getting my hopes up because I have seen no evidence of work actually going on. My ability to stay positive is really running out
77008- near Main and Cavalcade intersection. Still no power. Also no sign of utility trucks or line crews since one I saw on Saturday.
Tired and frustrated and going nuts from the sound of the generator. Very grateful for the generator, but still just worn out from the constant noise. And now I have to work at home in a mostly dark, humid, and hot house.
Why are they so bad at making maps?
Yep- the manual said “several minutes” so I waited about 15. Couldn’t wait too much longer because I have places to be, haha. But it wasn’t boiling hot, so I guess that did the trick. Man that old oil was dark- totally different color than what I replaced it with. Which I guess is the point.
Thanks! I’m pretty untrained at general machine maintenance. But I pulled out the manual and followed the instructions and got it changed out.
Can you change or replace the oil while it’s running?
Edit: I pulled out the manual and followed the oil change instructions. Shut off generator, let cool, drain old oil (which nearly bested me- that bolt was in there TIGHT), add new oil until dip stick level is between L and H. Thanks for the reminder, OP! I feel better about it running constantly for so long now.
I mean the library is used as a cooling center frequently- so I can understand a little more urgency there
Close to you- I actually walk on 22nd to Yale a couple times a day with my dog. I’m at main and 20th- same story. No power here. There are two houses at the end of singleton that have power but no other home in this entire little corner of the heights has power without a generator.
I keep trying to open the garage door when I come back from walking the dogs. Multiple times I’ve just walked up to the keypad and typed in my code only to be momentarily confused when it doesn’t open
The generator is too loud to watch the intense (but quiet) TV show I was in the middle of. So I’ve had to settle for YouTube or rewatching comedies
I wish. I love nights like that. It’s usually my Friday night ritual to wind down from the week. A nice walk with the dog, takeout for dinner as a treat and a good movie on the sofa with puppy cuddles followed by a hot bath and reading curled up in bed.
Unfortunately we got hit by an intense storm Thursday and I still don’t have power- so it will be a sweaty night trying to stay as still as I can. And no restaurants nearby can do delivery and the ones that are open are packed and crazy busy. Thankfully I have a generator and a gas stovetop. So I can at least cook some mac and cheese and then watch a movie with the fan on. Dog will have to stay on her own side of the sofa, though. Too hot for cuddles.
God that sounds amazing. I have been living off granola bars and cereal. I’d love real food
Someone on Nextdoor just posted a video of a couple dozen line crew trucks in the Kroger parking lot on shepherd. Looked to be a meeting place to get deployed. Very hopeful sign
Yeah I drove over to HEB this morning and there were a ton of city of Houston trucks. I’ll be delighted if we get power tomorrow- everyone online has me convinced it will be a week or more
Awe man I’m so close to you but still no power. I’m at main and cavalcade
My dude. The “rain” came with wind that knocked over giant trees, limbs, and power lines which took out power for a million people (including businesses). No power = no ability to pump or regulate gas.
Are you familiar with Houston? Because humidity here doesn’t work like that
Same here. I’m in 77008 too and it doesn’t seem like anyone is getting power back, so it’s hard not to feel stressed and frustrated.
I have a generator but it doesn’t run AC so I’m not sure what I’ll do if this really drags out for a week or more. Two dogs and two cats so I can’t just pick up and go stay at a hotel, either.
I’m in the heights and I haven’t seen any progress. I saw some line crew trucks yesterday- but still no power coming on anywhere
Yeah it’s frustrating. I’m trying to be zen about it- appreciating all the neighborly acts I’m seeing rather than focusing on the negatives. But I’m not looking forward to the temps tomorrow. Today has been shockingly cool so it was easy to just leash up the dog and go for a walk to break up the boredom and get fresh air. Tomorrow it will be a different story.
I did see several line crew trucks on my last walk of the day, which is encouraging. They’re not center point so it seems like the cavalry of outside help has arrived and is being deployed. But I’m mentally preparing myself for at least a few days of no power and praying to be pleasantly surprised.
I’ve been a few times. It’s definitely a neat event. I’m usually going to look for specific supplies or creatures, though, so I’m not sure what the experience would be purely as a spectator. But I’m sure it would be fun- especially with a kid. Lots of reptiles / amphibians / inverts to look at. Sometimes they’ll have some out that you can touch or look at more closely. And there are usually reptile-adjacent goodies available that your kiddo could actually take home (plushie, candy, etc).
What kind of dance do we need to do to get power back? Electric slide? Cha cha?
Or what offering would most please the electric line gods? I’m losing my mind and judging from this post I’m not alone. Turns out my sense of humor and patience are inversely proportional to the temperature inside my house.
