I know we all are having real problems thanks to the storm but let's vent about the little inconveniences we have been having since the storm Thursday.
This one is my favorite. I can hear Alanis in the background
IT’S LIKE RAAAAAAAINNNN
It's the good device, that you just couldn't use
lol thanks for the laugh!
This just reminded me of being on a trip a few years back and one morning I woke up to find that my electric toothbrush had ran out of power and I’d not packed the charger. I had already pulled out my phone to find a nearby drug store to buy a toothbrush when I remembered that, oh yeah, the toothbrush was still perfectly useable as a manual toothbrush.
hahaha it’s like you have to re-train your arm and wrist
this one is the best. so funny!
You do know that that if you move your hand up and down real fast it still works?
This is not the time for logic!
Get an inverter for your car. Plug into cig lighter, turns into 120v outlet. Charge toothbrush.
I can't recharge mine.
Me without power:
Walk into bathroom, hit light switch...oh....yeah. Walk into kitchen, hit light switch...oh yeah. Walk into bedroom, hit light switch... WHY TF DO I KEEP DOING THIS?!
Also having to remember my bathroom flashlight. Annoying.
I felt this in my soul. My closet light gets the most expletives ahaha
And, the other people in my house keep taking the bathroom flashlight. I feel like I need to tie it to the toilet or something.
Store it safely next to your poop knife.
But his arms are broken...
Man, I've been on Reddit for too many years. 😅
Ah yes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's the Sign of the Three (dark shitter edition)
Act 1: the bathroom fleshlight, because that's what I read in the 1st comment
Act 2: the bathroom flashlight, my mistake
Act 3: the bathroom poop knife, return if the food baby
You gotta hide it now. Fair is fair.
Lol it was in the bathroom but since I live in a corner apartment since about 7pm I couldn't find it so now it's in the kitchen on the way to the bathroom. It's a complicated situation over here!
I reflexively opened my fridge multiple times. I’m probably the reason most of our food went rancid 😭😭😭
I’m sideshow Bob with the rakes, except with light switches. I even make the same grumble every time they don’t work.
The one advantage to having most of my house on motion sensing lights during a power outage is that I’ve long since broken myself of the instinctive gesture to reach toward the light switch every time I enter or leave the room.
I live with headlamps.
Omg I have usb rechargeable tap lights I'm not even using.
You might regret this at two in the morning when the power comes back on!
I keep trying to open the garage door when I come back from walking the dogs. Multiple times I’ve just walked up to the keypad and typed in my code only to be momentarily confused when it doesn’t open
That was so me after Ike.
It worked the other way too...
After a few weeks I started walking into rooms without turning the lights on and then thought, "Oh yeah, we have electricity again."
Edit: I said "a few" weeks. It was 2 or 3. Can't remember now, which is sad considering what a memorable experience it was.
Despite having a Litter Robot, I had to scoop litter today.
I have a battery pack to power my cpap, before I charged it today I used it to run the litter robot because I didn't want to try and scoop.
I really need to get a battery pack for my CPAP too. Do you have any advice or recommendations?
Rockpal or Jackery if you can, I think I caught my rockpal on woot. They are expensive but worth the investment. About the size of a car battery
Get the optional solar charger as well. It can charge other ways but this gives you options.
We do a lot of camping and bought it withnthat in mind, but used it more for outages. This powers the cpap and charges my phone the whole night with charge left over. Recharge it during the day, good to go at night.
Comes in handy for situations like this.
Thanks so much for letting me know. I was looking at the Jackery. I'll check out Rockpal too. Yes, now that I'm retired, I'd like to do some road trips and sleep in my car (stealthily) to save money. The solar option sounds like a great idea!
I'm so sick of smelling cat piss 🤢 I clean the boxes after every use since the power went out but the hot still air just permeates and marinates the smell. I've never had a litter robot but I'm strongly considering just buying one and getting it over with.
Broke my Wordle streak…
Same! Lol
Have to ration my reddit consumption 'cuz limited battery.
This was so rough. I wanted to check this page so bad Reddit drains the fuck out of my battery.
I’m a full time remote IT worker. I had to take off Thursday due to a migraine. Friday work was canceled for safety. Why couldn’t my migraine have waited!?
Migraines are not very respective of one's time IMHO.
I had taken Friday and this coming Monday off because I desperately needed a sit on the couch and do nothing long weekend. Had great timing after losing power so far all weekend.
Cold showers
But honestly this might be a great way to finally get into them
I tried them and did the cold plunge for a while. It’s exhilarating and the drive to push yourself into discomfort feels like it carries over to other things.
That all said I think it’s cost benefit doesn’t come close to healthy eating and consistent exercise.
They are really nice after being outside cleaning up tree detritus...
The fridge doesn't dispense water without power, so I have not been drinking enough water.
When my sister and I were kids we had our first real power outage that I remember. The fridge water wasn’t working so my mom told us we had to drink out of the tap. We looked at each other and screamed EEEWWWWWWWWW like she had told us to drink out of the toilet. She still teases us for it.
You didn't have any Brawndo?
It's got what plants want
It's what plants crave
Does your sink work??
Yes, once I realized what was happening, I filled a glass from the sink.
Had to use vacation time yesterday to deal with the aftermath and missed a friend’s wedding today :(
No power for 48 hours + now.
I woke up yesterday and was like, well, at least I can take a nice relaxing bath.
Run water, step away for a sec.
Get in…it’s freezing.
Then I remember.
My water heater is electric.
Sigh.
now you can join this cold plunge sub lol
Tankless? Eff those.
I have an electric tank and just took my 4th decently-hot shower 52+ hours later. Its cashed out now.
Gas tank heaters with non-electronic controls are the absolute best during power outages.
Everyone in this city needs a re-education (or a first time education) in how to handle a busted traffic light.
It's a problem exacerbated those who barrel through intersections without care for others, as well as by those who hesitate to go when it's their turn.
Yeah, I'm not driving at night right now. With them all off around here, anyone paying not enough attention and/or not familiar with the area, might not even see where they should be.
But yeah. I've been taking the freeways as much as possible, as they've oddly become less stressful than surface streets.
I know my local area pretty well and consider myself pretty observant, but I accidentally went through a couple of intersections driving home after the storm Thursday night.
With all of the damage, power out, and some of the traffic lights missing, it’s easy to lose your normal reference spots.
After that experience I have no desire to drive after dark around here until they have the lights repaired. It was still pretty sketchy during the day.
That first night drive to a friend's with power was scary as hell. Completely dark, no lights no power at all and other cars on the road. I drove very carefully and stopped long at each light looking around at other cars coming up because I don't trust y'all 😂
In their defense, when you have 4-way 2-lane traffic plus turn lanes it's nearly impossible to tell whose turn it is so I don't blame people for hesitating. Only the gun-through people need re-education camps.
Fun fact - at a 2 way stop, a person waiting to turn left does NOT have the right of way even if they arrived first if another car pulls up that is going straight at the other side.
Another fun fact - if you attempt to follow that rule as the car going straight you will be in an accident. Or get honked or screamed at.
it's nearly impossible to tell whose turn it is
Not really. There are two options at any given intersection:
- It's running like the traffic signals are functioning, so opposing cars go straight at the same time, and the poor slobs turning left go right after the opposing traffic goes. This is "normal" but not the law.
- People are following the law and the person on the right has the right of way. Traffic proceeds counter-clockwise. Except for the poor slobs turning left, who should have found an alternate route or made a right turn, a U-turn then gone straight.
In most cases, though, it's survival of the fittest--just like normal Houston driving. Watch traffic and if someone hesitates, take advantage.
I figured out how to get on the freeway to get to work without going through an intersection, or at least only making a right turn, almost immediately because screw that noise. My anxiety is high enough already without adding that to it.
And we go as a group, people! Folks next to me need to pay attention so we can advance together. Come on! 😡
I've seen so many instances of people playing chicken in these intersections. People are lunatics.
I had to go to Home Depot like 5 times for non-storm related emergency repair projects on Friday and it was a pain in the ass every time
I had a project I was going to do this weekend that required a Home Depot trip. The materials I need should have zero overlap with what anyone with storm damage would use. I decided to screw it and try again next weekend.
I actually saw the lifecycle of HD generator inventory during a natural disaster. I was there before they had them out, got back a few hours later as a final few pallets were sent out, and made my final visit to watch a sad blonde lady find the final generator at the customer service desk.
The generator is too loud to watch the intense (but quiet) TV show I was in the middle of. So I’ve had to settle for YouTube or rewatching comedies
I had to read a book on my iPad because I had no Internet. I also had to use my battery powered candles and menorah to light my condo.
Sadness is: there are many DIY oil lamps on YouTube that cast enough light for reading in an emergency BUT in an emergency, there is no YouTube.
That's awesome!
I live in an older house and bought light fixtures with rechargeable bulbs. They have been a life saver! For the snowstorm, I tried the diy oil lamps, but with rambunctious pets, they can be scary to use.
Oh, good! Yes, fire is lovely, but not the safest option. I cobbled together a weak oil lamp from an energy drink can that sits in a jam jar with a bed of salt, so I think it's much safer than candles -- getting knocked over should drown the flame. But, yeah, I have cats, so I think I'd only use them in a cold emergency under constant human supervision. I experiment with NO animals in the room, lol.
relatable, acting inconvenienced because i had to read on my kindle instead of watching youtube before bed 😭😭
I had to reschedule my pickleball reservation
The horror!!
Having no internet when I want to bed rot and watch true crime is hard :(
I’ll share my internet if you share your bed rot/true crime with me 👾
Power went out right when I started VACATION!!. I had plans to play games and watch movies!.
The cable in my hotel room isn't as good as the package I have at home. Plus the TV isn't "smart" so I can't cast Netflix from my phone.
I always bring a roku to hotels. Bonus that it’s preloaded with your accounts though occasionally hotels make it impossible to plug in.
My dad’s been in the hospital since last Monday and we decided to go with home hospice care on Thursday. Now he can’t come home until til we have power, so he’s just miserable there. Just awful timing.
I’m really sorry, this sucks and you should be able to complain as much as you need to.
I really appreciate it. I’m not one to confide or seek help usually but it’s been really hard seeing him like this.
Sending you a big virtual hug.
I’m really sorry, awful timing like you said. I hope he’s able to come home and be more comfortable soon.
i'm literally stuck to my couch. power came back on about 20 mins ago. YAY!
I can't microwave my microwave dinners.
I had to throw out all my microwave dinners😔
Listening to my neighbor have his house reroofed is giving me a headache.
Not showering. Whatever. Obviously don’t have to go to work if they don’t have power. Light one of those lady of guadalupe candles, read a book, enjoy my roommates not turning every single damn thing in the house on, constantly wreck the kitchen, and finally get some quality sleep (the neighbors aren’t bumping loud music, or revving their cars for an hour since they can’t go anywhere either).
Did piss me off when everyone kept opening the fridge though. We don’t have power, how you gonna cook? Ruined all my food.
I was using our battery powered lamp to do my cross stitch, but the light was the wrong color and I was having a hell of a time finding the right spots for my stitches. So rude!
My cable internet (Comcast) went down yesterday at 10am for some reason (12+ hours after the derecho) and is still out.
Montrose here as well, Xfinity also went down yesterday around 10:30am and still out. Website just says "Under Investigation" unfortunately....
Yeah it's very weird that it started hours after the storm, but I guess they - or others - need to take down parts of the system that affects it to make repairs? (Just guessing)
Almost all the traffic lights are out, so I would imagine that's not helping.
T-Mobile 5g home internet is still not available at my place.
I hate to complain about this with the shit many people are going through, still this really sucks.
It’s likely that their equipment was affected by the power outage but running off battery backup or small generator so it only died hours later when that ran out.
Mine’s been in and out every few minutes since the storm and was restored about an hour ago over in Midtown, so hopefully you guys are next!
My cable internet (Comcast) went down yesterday at 10am for some reason (12+ hours after the derecho)
Some of their equipment probably lost power during the storm and 12+ hours is how long it took the backup batteries to die.
Ah, that makes sense. If they had something like this on their outage page it would be really helpful.
Yeah I did line work for a long time. The batteries died.
All cable internet is, is a series of wires and amps. Amps require power so you will see boxes on the side of the road and have no idea what they are for. It's the power supplies.
They tend to have about 10 batteries and should last long enough to do repairs... Except when the whole transmission tower blows over.
Heres a link for what they look like. https://images.app.goo.gl/cLRkDowuVi3rH6T86
I missed the end of Young Sheldon and had to watch it a day later on a tiny phone in the car instead of in my bed with cheese fries like I had planned. 😭
Let's focus on the important. Where were you planning on getting cheese fries from?
I'm a fan of Shake Shack cheese fries as they remind me of Coney Island circa 1990s. You?
Same. Watched it tonight. Cried my eyes out.
How was it?
The second part was way better than the first.
My favorite online game is having an expansion on Monday. My new computer that I bought to run the game is being delivered on Sunday. -deep sigh-
My tofu bahn mi place was closed, so I had to drive A WHOLE TWO MINUTES to another bahn mi sandwich shop... smh
Lmaoo this one made me laugh, it’s so valid when it’s not your favorite spot tho AND you have to drive extra to it so we feel ya buddy
I set up my solar shower on the patio earlier today but it took forever to get dark enough outside to use it 👀
Last night I went to McDonald's to plug in my phone to charge.
The only place they had a wall outlet was at this particular booth.
A family of six was crowded into that booth made for four.
They looked more tired than me, was not upset, brain went into thinking mode.
Ended up going to HEB, where I knew the blood pressure station in the pharmacy had been out for a year.
Ceremoniously unplugged the out of order higi station, plugged in my phone and sat in a waiting chair for an hour while having some snacks.
Went back to that same McDonald's this morning as soon as they opened to get that booth. Brought an extension cord, and one of my 12 plug power strips so if anyone else needed to charge their phone they could do it while I was there.
Best bacon egg and cheese biscuit meals I've tasted in a long while.
Dr Pepper machine was out, had to settle for sweet tea, like a sucker.
Sounds like you are a first world disaster problem solver! Thanks for being a good human.
I had to drive to another Whataburger because my favorite one didn't have power.
Same with me and Torchy’s because their WiFi was down
My bidet is electric....now I feel gross.
Been slow at work but it's May and massage tends to slow down when it gets hot out. I do wonder if the storm has something to do with it though. I made $1,300 less this week than the second week of April.
I told my sister since she's forced to not work, she should go to her chiropractor or get a massage since those things don't need electricity. She's a workaholic, though, and I think she'd rather worry about work piling up.
My solar doesn’t charge my battery at night
Had to pick up meds for my folks. We never lost power - so, awesome? I go to the pharmacy - cash only. My folks always pay by card for budgeting purposes. I drive to the bank - power's out at the branch, next nearest is also out. Turn around to go home, get cash, go back out to pharmacy. They weren't able to process rx but both meds are "life or death" stuff so they make a paper note and hand over a partial amount until the systems were back online.
In the grand scheme of things, these are small inconveniences but it really seemed silly all of a sudden how many daily tasks are electronic these days.
We got our power back and then our AC went out🥲
I can’t remember the details, but it’s a thing for ac unit to go out after a power outage, and I am pretty sure this is usually a simple, inexpensive fix. GL.
My boyfriend fixed it( hopefully) lol. Thank you! 😊
I've got power now but friends don't, now I have survivors guilt. At least I can offer them a place to stay cool.
My side of the street got power back but one block over didn’t. I feel like I have to turn all my lights off and close the shades so they don’t see my lights.
My garden has been doing fantastic. I have been harvesting and freezing a massive amount of tomatoes and all of my freezers are stuffed full. I intended to do a huge canning round today.
Whelp.
Not sure we're still first world
It really doesn’t feel like it right now
Third world city with a Gucci belt and swangas
I live up on the northwest side and some of the major 249 feeder road intersection traffic lights are still totally dark, 48 hours after the storm. Not even flashing red, just... off. I don't think it was this bad during any of the hurricanes or deep freezes.
Doesn't feel much like first world.
You've got traffic lights?
It's only a few, but when I drove through an area where some were just...gone... Wow.
I had to go to work because even though my home in the Heights has no power my restaurant in uptown does. (Poor me, I have a job). I have to drive past all these restaurants with no power in the heights and think "their employees didn't have to come in today" 😭
Definitely meets the description lol. I never got off work either but assuming you ain't salary at least we hourly folk are getting paid 🤑
Have whole house generator, but had to choose between drying clothes or running the ac, can't run both at the same time with this setup. So I dried the clothes first before it got too hot inside.
My wife's mom complains it's too hot inside, while wearing a sweater
I certainly hope I do not offend any locals if I come off as "entitled". I am from Vegas and just flew in to Houston tonight for a work gig - I will be here two weeks of the month for the next year. The thing is, I read about the disaster and knew about it before flying into the area.
Having said that, I made a hotel (motel, actually - trying to save a little coin) reservation. It went smoothly, online... but then I arrived. Upon arriving, the motel had no record of my reservation and did not have any rooms left to book. I was assed-out. I called other hotels/motels but could not get through to a single one of them - because phone lines were down, as well as credit card/atm/POS systems... and I had no cash on hand. So I took my chances and went downtown, hoping that my luck may be better there, in person. I walked to no less than 10 surrounding hotels over a few hours: no occupancy whatsoever. So, here I am essentially "homeless" for the night.
The moral of the story is, that I had a firsthand dose of reality - for the first time in my life - of having absolutely no control of my fate. While chatting with my Uber driver on the way downtown before that, we got to talking about the tornado and all of the fallout. He informed me that this sort of thing happens every 6 months or so. I was dumbfounded. He said it so nonchalantly. I can't imagine what it must be like as a local having to work through the kind of resulting disruption regularly. And then I was even more horrified when thinking about the general daily plight of the homeless - the lack of control of their fate - on an everyday basis, disasters notwithstanding.
I don't know what else to say beyond that, but I am in a fairly dark place right now after stepping into the shoes of the less fortunate in this context. The plight of the homeless has always been so distant, being a bit more privileged. It seems so hopeless. I don't think volunteering to serve the homeless food at some shelter would be anywhere near enough. That would be insulting to myself, an empty gesture to make myself feel better. What can be done?? :(
This is not something that happens every 6 months.
What happened Thursday I have never experienced in the many decades I've lived here.
I've seen plenty of dangerous green skies here, I have never seen the sky go to black so quickly. Actually, I'm not sure I've ever seen it go that dark before. It was like being out in a fuzzy midnight.. I almost felt like I had been drugged and my eyesight was deceiving me.
I'm not sure Houston has ever had a derecho.
Floods? Yes
Storms? Yes
Tornado watches and warnings that usually don't come of anything? Yes
Hurricanes we have time to prepare for? Yes
Going from "Hey, be careful out there honey, it might rain and the roads will be slick" to Twister level drama 15 minutes later? No.
56 years here and have never seen the weather burst like that. Waugh at Allen Parkway. It was bad here but much worse close by.
I didnt stock up on bud before the shit went down, so now I have to ration my smokage. Need to find my old one hitter
I keep edibles in the freezer and forget about them, making accidental emergency storage
The gummies!! Holy shit...thank you for reminding me. I have some stashed away 🙏
Well I know what I'm doing tmrw
I have this one im scared of stashed away for hurricane season
I really like making oatmeal and letting it sit in the freezer a few hours as a desert and sadly it has remained warm the last few days
I've always had power but I have my MIL staying with me while her power is out. My family and her are political opposites so I gotta hear her sigh when I watch the news.
I can't charge my puffco
I’ve lost 3 of my freezes for Duolingo.
My deepest sympathies!
I had to scoop the automatic litter box.
Waking up to no coffee. How is this not #1?
You haven't been snorting coffee grounds like the rest of us?
Wucking Feirdo.
At this point, I might take it a step further and melt some with a spoon and lighter and inject it directly
Mall food court Chick fil a was closed yesterday
Spent almost an hour this morning picking up a coffee. Drove to 3 local coffee shops which were all closed due to having no power and finally found an open Starbucks.
My older dog is extremely inconvenienced, nay, straight up abused and neglected. He normally gets fresh food and kibble, but has been relegated to kibble only until the power returns because I'm desperately hoping that not opening the fridge will keep it cold enough for everything to survive a couple days. (Don't burst my bubble...I suspect I'll be tossing a lot, but still hold out hope lol.)
Have you considered getting a cooler and ice to help preserve some stuff? I had to toss out a bunch of stuff after 25 hours without power
I have. I was planning on doing that today after work cuz Walmart has dry ice, but I got my dogs coming to work with me, so stopping at the store isn't happening. I'm pretty much resigned to having to restock at this point 🤷♀️
My favorite only fans lady doesn't have Internet.
Can’t you go over to your sister’s house and sit on the couch?
Her electric toothbrush probably isn't charged, either.
I’m staying at my sister’s house until power returns at mine. Her cats don’t like my kitten. And my kitten is unhappy to be stuck in a bedroom while I’m downstairs without him.
It's too quiet, my dog barks at EVERY SINGLE SOUND outside. Was happy neighbors have a generator, it was at least white noise for her and a little peace for us.
How many times do I flick on the same light switch hour after hour thinking it's gonna come on.
I had to cram all of my cold/frozen food into my second fridge so my generator could run more stuff.
Never being able to escape the loud ass hum of the generator.
Having a generator that only powers your fridge and deep freezer, and needing to plug in appliances as you need them. Which means basically doing nothing all day, since work is out of power as well.
At least I have phone data. That I can hotspot to my laptop. Which is the only thing plugged in, barring the fridge/freezer.
All of our underground creamery pints melted.
My ordered range toys arrived at the amazon locker (chest rig), but because the power was out I couldn't pick it up :( (the thing gave me a few extra days though so it was okay!)
I had a Walmart order to pick up for my groceries, set at 6pm that day. Needless to say I felt sick and didn't go because I didn't want to make them work in the rain, and I'm glad I didn't given what happened. Unfortunately they cancelled my order, but given I had to throw out the fridge contents and I'm getting refunded for the order amount I'm not too upset.
Oh also I just got back in town from a business trip the night before. The last place I had showered was the west coast. It was very refreshing to have a hot shower 3 days later!
We made it out unscathed (I’m sorry—I suffered greatly during Ike as well as the 2021 freeze if that helps, our power never came back on in the 5 days, and I also have Hand Foot and Mouth Disease right now from my daughters daycare lmao), but I wanted to share a silly story from 2021:
My husband made a batch of chicken biryani right before the power went out in 21. We ate that until we ran out, and then we were left with canned refried beans.
For 3 years my husband has tried to recreate the magic of that particular batch of biryani, and it just hasn’t quite hit the same. We’ve gone through umpteen recipe renditions. It haunts him. I have recently tried convincing him it only tasted so good because of the circumstances, but that was a very unhelpful thing to say (“so you’re telling me I’ve never made a decent batch?”), and I regret saying it.
Every time my husband makes chicken biryani I have to watch the light leave his eyes once again. I have to set aside my silly problems in order to fully support his deep emotional anguish.
Chicken biryani is tearing my family apart.
Other side of the street never lost power.
ETA I don't have cold water to drink
My package was delayed, was looking forward to my new carbon fiber bike seatpost
My generator will run everything in the house except the ac, and the stove. Home internet is down, phone is OK, but slow.
I’m staying with my dad in Westbury. He has power, but he also has big ass tree roaches and I think he lies to me about how often pest control comes.
The fact that it’s actually hot rn ain’t helping, those fuckers try to get inside with all their might when it’s hot and humid
I had to take a cool water bath because no power means no hot water.
I had to use the internet hot spot on my phone to download things to watch on my iPad.
Charged my phone with my worklaptop so I didn't end up getting work done like I hoped.
My bf is a PC player. He loves spending his weekends gaming. And this was his birthday weekend (birthday is today). We're powerless so no AC no PC and we're stuck in a hot house and I just know he's not having the best birthday 😭😭
My vacation days accrue weekly and capped out on Friday. I took a vacation day for Friday since I either used it or lost it. Helluva vacation day
didn’t feel like eating room temp canned food yesterday so I went to get takeout from my favorite thai place and they were closed, then i decided to go to my favorite taco place and they were also closed
My hello fresh delivery has been delayed so I’ve had to eat out the past few days.
The dead silence trying to sleep when I usually fall asleep to true crime YouTube videos
I have no idea what I’m supposed to take for lunch at work this week. I’m a school teacher and don’t have time to pick up food in the morning on my way in.
In general, we should all stop and marvel at the miracles that are electricity and indoor plumbing. It’s so easy to take for granted.
Bought a 10 inch cheesecake to make a milkshake on tornado day. Poor little guy didn’t survive.
I had to get off the bike and bend down to crawl under a tree on the HHB today. Also the downtown YMCA has been closed.
Watching the Astros lose today
My AC went out the evening before and when power came back on, it still sucks.
My fav pizza place has no power.
I keep having to dodge trees and debris every 10 seconds on the road 👺
desperately missing my boyfriend because he's hosting two senior colleagues in his apartment because they're without power 😵💫
Me in my stairwell: Man I can't see fucking shit in this thing.
I door dashed a pizza right before the storm hit and had to wait 2 hours to get my pizza. Power also tripped for a second while I was in the middle of Helldivers. 10/10 horrible experience
Im blessed enough to have gotten a generator after the ice storms few years ago but it’s not one of those fancy ones that like is connected to the house or anything, so you have to use extension cords. The power at my house has been going off and on every few hours. each time it does come back on I put all the extension cords back up because they are everywhere in my house and drive me crazy and every time it goes off again I get pissed at myself for putting everything away but here we are lol it could always be worse!
Go to girlfriends house that has a generator. Still no Internet. Go back home because I would rather be in the dark than have no Internet.....
Power went out at work so we had to throw away a ton of food. Then delivery was late because stop lights were out. Extra prep but we got power back. Then EVERYONE shows up cuz we have power and they didn't,so we got our asses kicked. I was BOH and FOH this weekend. Plus side is money. Downside is I have so much shit to do on my one day off.
Also oven at home short circuited so only microwave food.
This subreddit is even more crowded than usual with repetitive posts and people asking about things a 30-second phone call or 15-second Google search would have solved for them.
My new electric toothbrush got delivered yesterday and I haven’t been able to try it out
