Part of it was to humiliate us in front of other family members rather than to just cool off. I thought it was normal time out until in later life I’ve revisited it in the context of realising that my parent is a highly controlling narcissist. There was a less than healthy agenda behind it for sure, they care less about good parenting strategies than they do about exerting their control. The reason why matters too - for us it was usually because we dared to ‘answer back’.

But does his so-called man's knife even have a parcel hook and magnifying glass?

Wrote all the shitty things he did in a list. Re-read it every now and then to remind myself who he actually is.

No point when you can still buy them NOS online for 400.

No difference between them other than the dial and people getting sucked in to paying more for the J.

Officially/playfully called the orange peeler, but it’s a generally useful cutting tool.

I’ve noticed that between new SAK’s there can be a significant difference in the difficulty of opening those back side tools especially the hook and awl. Some are relatively easy and others are a bit of a bastard to open no matter how well they’re oiled. I think it’s due to tiny variations in assembly. With the awl, try opening the corkscrew first, to allow you to get your thumb a bit flatter against the back of the body. You could consider returning it and trying your luck with another Explorer.

Yep that’s it. They’ve just put up prices to $408

No, it’s not a forbidden item in Victoria. It’s falls under controlled weapons which means you can use and carry it for lawful reasons including lawful recreation, work, sport, duties, collection etc.

I bought a NOS SKX from an online shop a few months ago from for $365. You can still get them for 400 now.

Really, what's the big deal. Victorinox has made bladeless models for decades. Jetsetter, SwissFlash, SwissMemory, Manicure etc. Leatherman have had the Knifeless Rebar, Knifeless Fuse and Style PS. Some people mod SAK's without blades and have been asking Victorinox to make more models available like that.

The media have eagerly pounced because they know it was a combination of words that trigger some people into engaging with their content.

Unfortunately you’re doing exactly what the media want.

Yes, it’s a triumph of media hype seizing on headlines that will get clicks and shares. No need to get hooked on that.

This is all very stupid because Victorinox has already produced bladeless models for many decades - the Jetsetter, the Bladeless, Manicure, SwissFlash, SwissMemory, etc etc.

You’re many decades too late - there’s quite a few bladeless models already.

That’s the tragedy of abusive parenting - the children don’t have the choice of not letting them have control over their life. Only as an older child and adult does it become possible to gain that power.

Ndad has done his own home made surgery on his dogs on the kitchen table. The “anaesthetic” was sleeping tablets and brandy shoved down their throats.

It would depend on the amplitude. It needs a solid amplitude reading in the correct range to be able to hold its accuracy after adjustment. Unfortunately the 6R is prone to having issues with amplitude so get a look at it on a timegrapher before purchase if possible.

The steam train today dropped oil and grease on the rails causing havoc with the revenue trains. The Siemens train has wheel sanders and the aim is to restore some traction to the rail head.

Said with such confidence 😂 Already has been for me.

Yes they are usually low from new, but I'm not convinced it's a design feature - rather a result of systemic haphazard assembly. From what I've seen, properly serviced and lubricated newish 7S/4R/6R movements can attain an amplitude around high 200's-toward 300 and much improved positional variance. Older used ones around 275 after service. All 5 of my 6R movements have shown 220-240 from new along with poor positional variance. That's a small sample size but it also does have quite the reputation with this. If you've got specialised experience on this I'm interested to hear more on whether it's an intentional design.

Yes I’ve got a Compact with the combo tool, it opens cans about 80-90% as well as the standard can opener. It just requires a bit of a different technique.

People pay good money for those limited editions. The scales will have to be removed for a mod. The mounting points are never quite the same afterwards, although being really careful can minimise the damage somewhat. You can do what you like with it of course, but consider selling it untouched, buy a standard one and the leftover money can help pay for the modding.
