Hi everyone,

I recently got my first Swiss Army Knife, the Explorer, and it's also my first time using a "nail nick" type of knife. I'm really excited about it, but I'm facing a significant challenge with opening some of the tools. While I've managed to open the main blade and some smaller multitools a few times, the parcel hook and the awl are almost impossible to open without a lot of struggle. After repeated attempts, my nail starts to lift from the flesh.

Could this issue be due to improper technique, a defective product, or are my nails possibly too thin for this type of knife? I'd appreciate any tips or advice on how to handle this better.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Thanks everyone for the replies! I think I've identified the issue—it's related to the shape of my nails. My thumb is wide and flat, lacking the curvature that provides strength (similar to an eggshell). When I try to pry anything open with my thumb, the nail just folds. My other nails have a normal curvature, so I hold the knife with my left hand and make an 'OK' sign using the middle finger of my right hand. The middle finger nail doesn't have any issues opening the tools. However, the awl is still a struggle to open.
