When I was training guides, I would always take a hard worker over a super-talented, lazy guide.

Thanks so much! Glad I asked.

I was planning on accessing the trail from South End Road; is that the same as FR 58? This trail https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/vermont/griffith-lake-loop--2

Do you have any suggestions for a moderate overnight hike in SW VT? I'll be in Brattleboro Fri evening, so anything close to that would be cool

I was surprised to see a large stack in an Auto upholstery shop; I didn't know it was used for that.

Search for "crosslink polyethylene foam" .. the NRS stuff is 2lb density. There are lots of online Foam distributers

Southern Vermont this weekend 5/11/2024Wilderness

I'm planning on traveling to VT this weekend to do a single overnighter in Green Mountain Forest on the Griffith Lake Loop

It looks like it might be a miserable weekend anyways, but does anyone know what the current trail conditions are for that hike?

I'm not familiar with the area. So any other advice would be much appreciated.

Update: We hiked the trail on 5/11 - 5/12. Out the long way towards Mt Baker first, then an overnight stay at Griffith Lake and back out the short way. Basically the opposite direction that All Trails shows for the Griffth Lake Loop Trail. Conditions were good. The hike in had very little mud. The hike out had more, but not impassable at all.

The cars might be different, but I would think a sympathetic judge might not find a reasonable difference between a car with no marking and a car that has markings that are purposely obfuscated.

OcoeeKayaking

Thinking about hitting the Ocoee this week. But AWA doesn't list a gauge and besides scheduled rec releases I can't find any info; though from the USGS gauge it looks like it's been spiking over the last month.

Can anyone help me understand what I need to look at to find out if it's running?

A popular Tshirt for tourists says, "Colombia, not Columbia". And I just realized I spelled it wrong in my comment

It's "my husband and I". You may have been treated better here on Reddit if you hadn't been so nonchalant about running over squirrels. Finally, stop misrepresenting people from PA; some of us like squirrels.

From the 'burgh! Have you done the GAP trail yet?

You asked about the Ocoee, but since people are talking about the nNw also, I'm going to suggest the Lower Yough

Guide training starts the same time as everyone else pretty much; right after Easter. Once peak season comes in, you'll be able to work 7 days a week if you want to.

Have been there once before, but didn't paddle. I'm going with my wife and paddling with an outfitter (Expediciones Colombia)

This video is from a guy who just went there a couple weeks ago; same Outfitter and there on the Rio Calderas (III). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5hCaxFFesc&t=391s

Roger was around last season, but probably not as much in 2024. Warren, the new owner, is a great guy and is keeping up the high standards that Roger had.

I'll sell you my 2008 F-150 XL with 2wd, 6cyl, 5-speed manual. Crank windows, no power seats..

Headed to Colombia in Feb. It always rains there ( Cocorna) so I'm hopeful

I heard February, but that was a couple months ago.

Allegheny Wine Mixer in addition in Lawrenceville

Two Frays especially since you can get food from Spak Brother's

yeah. I am going to make a "proto type" with all soft wood. But I'll still glue pieces together because good glue lines are pretty critical; so I want practice.

This is good advice though. I can do most of this with a couple purchases.

woodworking with handtools

I want to make some canoe and kayak paddles without buying expensive power tools. I have some basic stuff, but when seeing other people make paddles, they usually have a really good tablesaw, a band saw, router table and planer

I'd like to make some paddles with hand tools to get started

Does anyone have any recommendation for what to buy to get started?
