Does anyone know how/why Parma Heights police cruisers are allowed to get away with their police cruisers basically being unmarked?
It's dark grey text on black paint. It's nearly impossible to identify at night. Isn't that illegal in Ohio? Has there ever been a ruling on it?
Edit: Parma Heights not Parma. I always forget they're different.
They only put decals on in Parma because it is illegal to give traffic citations from a vehicle that does not have a clear jurisdiction labeled on the sides in Ohio.
It would be really interesting to see someone with enough money to burn to go in and challenge. What a “clear jurisdiction label” is in a traffic case. Because black on black does not seem clear to me.
They exist only to perform the opposite of saving taxpayers money. They are there but to seize funds, from the maximum number of humans, for the municipality.

The case you cited is not close to this. OP is not talking about a "ghost" car, he's referring to an actual police car.
In your case, the car had civilian plates, 3 inch lettering, and no lights. The cars OP is referring to has police plates, lettering that covers the entire side, and a panel of lights on top. 2 very different types of cars.
Regardless, just cause it's tough to see at night doesn't mean anything. It's night, alot of things might be tough to see. Maybe write your state representative that the law should include they need glow lights on the side so it's easier to read? The ones now are very readable
The cars might be different, but I would think a sympathetic judge might not find a reasonable difference between a car with no marking and a car that has markings that are purposely obfuscated.

I think they should be clearly marked so if someone needed help they could be easily seen. It's like their intent is not to help, but to sneak.

Random but one time I asked 3 cops for a bandaid (multiple small cuts all over my hand) and they said they didn’t have one. Probably just because they didn’t want to deal with a drunk bozo, but I know for a facts there’s bandaids in that car lol.
Believe you are talking about Parma Heights. Parma cruisers are the traditional black and white with blue lettering. Parma Heights cruisers are "blacked out".

I’ve started noticing this all over the country. In other countries, police vehicles are made to be easy to spot with bright colors and clear markings. But this is the US, where the cops are thugs lying in wait to ambush you.
Laws and regulations vary by state and locality, but you will find unmarked patrol cars pretty much anywhere in the US where they're permitted.

Call them and ask. Tell them you were reviewing the code on line for Ohio and wondered how their vehicles are considered compliant? Then give your neighbors name and address and throw away the burner phone.

Parma’s all black cruisers are the traffic enforcement unit. They are dispatched to high traffic complaints areas. The Standard cruiser is black and white. The K9 cruisers are all black with large gray Parma police lettering.

As already posted, you're talking about Parma Heights who run Explorers Chargers and Tahoes that are black on black. Parma only uses Tahoes and they are all either black and white with white lettering and a huge blue stripe down the side, or all black with white lettering as is the case with the traffic enforcement units. All of them have obvious police equipment as well.
The entire point of cops is to be visible so they’re able to correctly protect and serve the community. Any county implementing this is on ethical shaky grounds.
Have you seen the Georgia State Patrol “grim reaper” Hellcat or the semi truck!? Houston had sedans that were painted with the back and driver side to look like a taxi.
I feel like cops are finding more and more ways to not look like cops and that makes me uncomfortable.

IIRC, in Ohio a police car only needs the word "Police" on the front quarter panels (sides) of the car. I believe this may also be true in New York state. These are often the cars you may see on the slide of a highway or overpasses shooting radar for fun and profit. I believe the law reads:
Any motor vehicle used by a member of the state highway patrol or by any other peace officer, while said officer is on duty for the exclusive or main purpose of enforcing the motor vehicle or traffic laws of this state, provided the offense is punishable as a misdemeanor, shall be marked in some distinctive manner or color and shall be equipped with, but need not necessarily have in operation at all times, at least one flashing, oscillating, or rotating colored light mounted outside on top of the vehicle. The superintendent of the state highway patrol shall specify what constitutes such a distinctive marking or color for the state highway patrol.

Ghost graphics don't constitute to them being unmarket, they constitute them to being fucking legalized highway pirates here to pull you over at 7mph over the speed limit.

An unmarked car in the state of Ohio should never be pulling you over simple traffic related infractions.

There was one belligerently yelling at cars and generally acting like a tough guy dickhead directing traffic not too long ago. That way, they can say their cars are marked with two-foot block lettering. It goes against the spirit of marked vehicles law without technically violating it.

If a police car is unmarked, or even if it has small , not-so-obvious decals, it can’t pull you over for a traffic violation. State Supreme Court ruled a few years back. Contest those tickets if you get one. Take a photo of the cruiser that pulled you over for proof.

So two things here: first, this only applies to officers whose main or primary purpose is the enforcement of traffic laws. Second, those laws have to misdemeanors.
The Oho Supreme Court has been pretty clear that this section of the ORC only applies to traffic enforcement. Other officers on regular patrol would likely be exempt from the marked vehicle requirements.
