Wow, I feel like I could've written this post myself! I have obsessively weighed every single gram of food I put in my mouth for the last several years and up until recently the thought of stopping was inconceivable. I also used the same justification-I have to do this so that I eat enough. But when I'm able to be honest with myself I know that I also use the food scale and cronometer as a way to make sure I don't eat "too much".

I really don't know what the answer is. I have just started very slowly not weighing some things and it's excruciatingly uncomfortable but in a way it also feels kind of rewarding. I would urge you to be brutally honest with yourself about why you use the food scale and if any part of it is keeping you stuck in the ed, take any steps you can however small to break the addiction.

Advice For Young Puppy on Vegan Diet

I just found an abandoned 4 week old puppy on the side of the road. The vet says his teeth are developed enough to eat food. Commercial vegan dog food is not an option in my country. I want to make homemade dog food for him. Does anyone have advice or maybe a recipe specifically for puppies? Do they have different nutritional needs than adult dogs?

Cowboy Camping SetupWilderness

Hi, I'm lloking to do some overnight hiking trips carrying the least amount of gear possible. I've got a sleeping bag that's rated to 15 degrees celscius, an inflatable sleeping pad, groundcloth, pillow, and an emergency blanket to throw over my sleeping bag if I get cold. I live in Greece and this time of year the nights are pretty warm already. Does this sound like a good plan? Should I change anything about this setup?

I've been able to do this in the past for short periods of time but the last few years it has become so obsessive that I need to know the weight of everything down to the exact gram, particluarly the higher calorie foods that I eat.

And did you have help or support? Did you continue to make your own meals or did someone do it for you? How did you make that transition?

May I ask what was it that got you to the point of not being able to take it anymore? How could you just "put the scale away" if you were using it obsessively?

How To Overcome Major Food Weighing Obsession?

Anyone got any tips or advice on how to go about this? I've been weighing every single thing I put in my mouth for years now, and can't imagine not doing it, yet it's getting to a point where my life is so empty I feel I have to find a way to stop. I just don't know how to go about it. If anyone has had this obsession and overcome it, can you share please how you did it?

Young Fruit Tree Watering Requirements

How do I know how much to water my young fruit trees? I have just set up drip irrigation. The trees were mostly all planted last fall and they are covered with thick mulch. I live on Crete and summers are HOT! I don't want to water them too much. Any ideas?

Sicily Vs Crete

To those who have lived and/or spent a substantial amount of time in both Crete and Sicily, could you comment on the similarities and differences of each, pros and cons, etc? Climate and wind factor, cost of living, availability of good quality organic produce...

Thanks. Do you think the new shoots constantly sprouting up wil be detrimental to the veggies I'm trying to grow?

Thank you. I'm wondering though if the new shoots constantly sprouting up will be detrimental to the veggies I'm trying to grow?

Ok that's what I'm doing but will it be detrimental to the crops I'm trying to grow? Especially if it's sending up shoots right next to the seedlings?

Major Bindweed Problem

Hi,

I made 3 sheet mulched raised beds last fall and have planted them with greens, tomatoes and cucumbers mostly. For the last couple months that we've been having warmer temperatures here the bindweed has been coming up like crazy. I go out with a trowel everyday and remove all the new growth, which is tricky without damaging all the young seedlings, and the next day there's a dozens of new shoots coming up again. What can I do besides chemicals? I'm located on Crete in Greece.

Caloric Needs When Healing From Stress Fracture

I just got a stress fracture in my foot and cannotwalk at all so I'm basically sitting and lying down all day. For context I typically exercise a lot every day and eat 3000-3200 calories per day as a raw vegan. I am chronically underweight, healing from eating disorder and having a hard time knowing how much to eat now that I have suddenly been forced to drastically change my activity level. I have read that the body still needs a lot of fuel when healing from injuries even if we're sedentary...can anyone help me with a healthy amount of calories to eat know while I'm recovering?

Bone Problems

Hi friends, I am really struggling right now. A few days ago I bruised my
ribs for the 3rd time in the past year. I'm concerned because all I was
doing was trying to open a stiff door in a way that was putting some
pressure on my rib area. That injury has prevented me from doing most of
my calisthenics routine that I am trying to build up to increase my
bone density. Then this morning I woke up with a throbbing foot just out
of the blue. The symptoms seem to be consistent with a stress fracture
and I cannot walk at all.
To give some background info, I have struggled with anorexia for
the last 18 years and have been consistently underweight for that entire
time. I had a bone scan done about 6 years ago which showed that I had
pre-osteoporosis in most areas of my body. I typically walk around 2
hours a day at a very fast pace in addition to my calisthenics and
manual labor/gardening a few hours each day, and when I am unable to do
this I have a really hard time eating and intentionally decrease my
calorie intake as I still fear gaining weight and being sedentary. I
also hardly ever allow myself to sit and rest which I'm wondering if
that has contributed to my foot injury. If anyone has any thoughts I would love to hear.T

How to Stop Weighing Everything I Eat?Question

I've been using a food scale to weigh every single thing I put in my mouth for close to a decade now. It has become so normalized to me and I have come to believe that I have to do it to stay healthy because in the past whenever I've tried to stop I always end up eating less and less and losing weight.

Today my worst nightmare came true...my food scale stopped working, right as I was starting to make my lunch. I had to drive to town to buy another one which meant my lunch was over an hour late and I was starving. It was a wake up call for me that this is an addiction. I've been doing this for so long though, is there any hope for being able to stop and if so how?

Advice For Buying Land

When buying land to start a permaculture project, what do you look for?

Of course access to water, sun exposure, etc are the obvious ones, but what about slope?

Is it better to get land that is flat or gently sloping? Should land with a steep slope be ruled out?

How much of a consideration is wind exposure?

How much of a priority is it for you to buy land that already has producing fruit trees and great soil?

Would you be land that has been used to grow crops or has fruit trees that have been sprayed with chemicals?

I live on Crete which has a wide variety of microclimates, some areas which are more similar to North Africa and other areas that get more rainfall. My vision is to have a self sustaining food forest and be able to grow tropical fruit trees and also as many temperate trees as possible .

Hey! I'm actually looking for the same thing, a warmer, sunnier microclimate on Crete where I can grow tropical fruit trees. Are you already living on Crete?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. I think Freet shoes are probably too wide for my feet.
