Local men have an abundance of these opportunities and don't really respect these women, and if half the people with your opinion spoke another language you'd quickly learn that your views are in the minority among most of them. Ages gaps throughout history in the west are common. It's only people who think women 16-25 shouldn't have a family that also don't want to consider them capable of having an age-gap relationship. I don't think I'd personally enjoy being with someone in a relationship that is that much younger just because younger is prettier to me. But also there are a ton of irresponsible 30 yo women that haven't matured since their 20s and are likely to cause you headaches as a 25 yo. If a girl is being pushed into freelancing or bar work to bring money in for her family, she might attempt to latch onto a foreigner first to keep her sense of self-worth high, but her desperation and the family's eagerness would usually be noticeable.

There's nothing wrong with having less competition in the western music market. If you don't make all your money from playing live now, you definitely aren't going to in the next 10 to 20 years. And it'll be fine for people who like to make music. There just won't be as many deluded about it as a career. The 20th century is over forever.
This is how old fashioned people in the west do it too. It's not surprising. I'm not from Thailand but that's how my father's situation was. He paid off my mom's university, bought her stuff she couldn't afford, helped with her sick parent. All while she was young and working. She stopped working when she had us.
The way Thai people sometimes talk about it being expected seems weird, but not if they're expected to be fully involved in raising the children. But if there is no children and the family isn't sick and is old enough to work, than hypothetically I don't think it's imposing my culture on the situation to say no. The tradition is a good one but it's also good because it has a function. If you're not having kids and not providing support to an elderly or sick person from compassion, than what is it?
