Would you say an REI beanie is a warm enough hat? If not, what do you recommend?

What kind of stuff sack do you use? Brand and size?

I was looking at that exact poncho! You like it, huh? I saw it's like $120 so I just wasn't sure whether it was necessary. But at the moment I have nothing to keep my legs dry... Do you use dry bags at all to help keep gear dry? I could return the $55 set of 3 dry bags I got from REI and the $15 backpack cover I got to help fund the poncho if you think, standalone, that's all I'd need?

Rain Gear for a September NOBO Hike

Do I need rain pants? I have a rain jacket and a backpack cover. Is that enough? Do people prefer the big Sea to Summit ponchos? I understand it can rain a fair bit during September and it will be colder, and want to be sufficiently prepared to stay warm, but I've spent a ton on other new gear already and don't want to get gear I don't really need. What do people think about minimum necessary gear for rain given my start date? Things that have worked great for you? Thank you!

MPT Logistics on Exam Day

For MPTs I've been taking notes/outlining by hand with a pen in my Themis MPT book. On actual exam day, will we have to do everything virtual, or will we have printed copies of MPT materials to write on/outline with by hand? Want to make sure I'm not getting too comfortable with a method of execution that won't be available to me on exam day. Thanks!

I was thinking of just adding a 4th resupply and doing Independence, Bishop, VVR, and Mammoth Lakes. But it seems like a huge pain to add on the additional miles at both Independence and Bishop given how out of the way pick-ups are.

I already bought the BV500. Do you think it's not doable with that? By my math it's 92.4 miles from Kearsarge to VVR, at 12 miles a day that's 8 days' worth of food. What's the generally acceptable max # of days a BV500 can hold for most hikers?

I'm sorry which leg is this supposed to be helping me with? Isn't Bishop an alternative to Independence, which I don't have a problem with?

Hmm okay. Good idea on the store front. Thank you!

Yeah VVR's website says they'll hold until Sept. 30 so I should be fine, as long as I can make the long hike from Independence to VVR on just the one resupply. Seems like a lot.

Hmm... is that allowed? Or did you just get lucky that it was still there for you?

Resupply Points for NOBO Starting 9/8?

Hi all,

I'm almost done putting together my gear for a first-time trek going NOBO starting from Cottonwood Pass on September 8th, but it occurred to me over this last week I may have issues with resupply given my late start. I was planning on resupplying at (1) Independence from Kearsarge/Onion, (2) MTR, and (3) Red's Meadow. MTR wrote back to me the other day that they absolutely will not hold resupply past 9/15, and Red's Meadow wrote back to me today that they may not either. As it is, it looks like I'd have to go (1) Independence all the way to (2) VVR (which is a long haul), and then if Red's Meadow is out, I'm not sure what my back-up would be.

Folks who have left NOBO around when I will—what do you think is best for me by way of resupply destinations? I just want to make sure I'm not going to have issues and that this is feasible. Thank you to all for the continued support (I lurk here for helpful tips a lot).

This was hugely helpful. Thank you so much!

Appreciate that. What was your sleep system like for those colder nights? Also, what is your favorite sleeping pad? I've had a Big Agnes Q Core Deluxe and I hate it. Looking to replace

September NOBO Gear List

Would anyone who's done a NOBO hike in September mind sharing their gear list? Would love to compare to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thank you!

I’m a graduating 3L at GULC and am/was also an Opportunity Scholar. PM me if you have any questions :)

Hi everyone — I am the buddy referenced in the post. I’m hiking Nobo starting at cottonwood pass on 9/9. We’re trying to identify the first entry along the way that would allow him to easily meet up with me and still do as much of the hike as possible. But also one that he can reasonably count on getting. Thank you all!

I'm supposed to start NOBO on September 9th -- would be interested in the community's thoughts on whether that's too late too. And whether there are any particular things to keep in mind given a later start date.

Recommended Resources to Learn the Essentials?

I just secured a permit to hike the JMT NOBO this coming September 8-29. I grew up in Scouts and have been camping my whole life, but short of a 3-week trek in Nepal a few years back (where you stay at tea houses and eat hot cooked food every night along the way), I've never done a long trek like this.

So, what I'm saying is I have the general camping skills/equipment, but have to start from the beginning in terms of long distance backpacking logistics. And I know nothing about this trail in particular. Can folks recommend some resources for me to start with (books, articles, etc.) to make sense of recommended resupply points, other tips, etc.? Thank you!

This is real. I’m a 3L in DC and a number of my 1L mentees already have their 2025 summers locked down. They applied directly.

Evidence (4), Intl human rights law (3), a fed courts class focused specifically on how courts handle international law issues (2), a course on emerging technologies and the law (2), and two master’s degree classes for my other degree at (3) each, one on North Korea and one on Indo-Pacific strategy. So 17 credits. But most of them are fun

My fact pattern was all about national security and I somehow forgot to mention any of the 503 or N&C exceptions… idiot! So many points left on the table 😱 but I hope yours went well too!

I’m a 3L doing the same thing after my own admin law final!

Best Apps to Track Wealth from Multiple Accounts?

Hey everyone,

New to this sub. Seeing lots of screenshots of people's various holdings, wondering which (free) app is the best for tracking all this. I have Mint but it's seemed to stop tracking some of my accounts over the years, no longer very helpful. I have a brokerage account, roth, hysa, checking, and robinhood, so ideally something that can monitor all of those in one place would be great. Thanks!
