To be fair, almost nobody in the early James Bond films was an actor. Nearly every female in those movies was a model with no acting experience, and was dubbed over.

Lazenby had a LOT of print and television advertising experience, to be fair -- he'd just never uttered a single line of dialogue. He was a VERY in-demand model -- to the point where the tip-off to those paying attention that he would be the one was the Bond producers quietly buying up his modeling contracts long before the official announcement of his casting.

South Louisiana accent is the only one I've actually had trouble understanding. I work with a lot of country boys from there and at times I just stare blankly at them in a conversation.

All his movies were voiced by Thomas Dannenberg! Who also was the German voice for Stallone. So when both showed up in the same movies it was really funny since both had the same voice but everyone was used to it so it still sounded kinda natural.
Sadly he passed away last September. Great great voice actor.
Sorry but that is somewhat off an exaggeration. The two actors only appeared in four movies together, and in three of them Arnold was at best a tiny side character without much Stallone interaction. The only one they really starred in together was Escape Plan, and in that Arnold was voiced by Ralph Schicha to prevent any confusion.

He's from Graz, which is the urban centre of Styria. In the context of Austrian dialects, his is not particularly rural, but there's a status perception that would place his dialect - particularly because it is much stronger than "modern" dialects from the region, with Austrian dialects in general, and especially in the cities, converging towards a 'Austrian standard German' if you will - as being indicative of a lower status than a Viennese or the aforementioned "Austrian Standard".
Sort of like Americanized films trying to pass off a British lord with a strong cockney accent?

In Germany, the "Steiermark accent" sounds weird, but not redneck. It's more of a curiosity for us.

No, we don’t use a term like “Redneck” in Austria. The different regional dialects just sound different. We don’t really categorize them by anything except their region.
Something similar to this apparently happened with the Hungarian actress in the movie Chicago. They didn’t need to dub her Hungarian to another language (because the Hungarian was supposed to have a language barrier) because her regional accent was so thick most others couldn’t understand her anyways.
Reminds me of the SpongeBob episode where squidward pretends to be German, abd SpongeBob learns German and starts speaking to him in German, which squidward doesn't understand a word of. In the German dub, they give SpongeBob a thick Bavarian accent and dialect instead
Damn, that's hilarious. I basically lived that speaking with my extended German/Bavarian side of the family. Learned some German in college, a couple semesters. And it helped but took me maybe halfway. The rest was confusion and intuition.
Speaking to my Oma though I'd be unfamiliar with most of the words spoken but would understand her completely. It was basically like Han Solo speaking with Chewie without saying a word of wookie and yet it worked great, or at least better than it had any business being so. If only we had more time.

I heard it described as the equivalent of a redneck since he grew up in a rural farming village, IIRC. So, not quite as extreme as Boonhauer (as funny as that is), but still not at all "proper".

It's a great way of padding out your CV in real life. It's not a lie, but it's also not a complete truth.
It's a way of presenting the truth.
It's true that he has stage experience. It is true that this stage experience is relevant for the job. You still need stage presence in a bodybuilding competition after all - the skills transfer. So there is really nothing but the truth there.
But equally you know that there is a very high chance that the audition team would undervalue bodybuilding stage experience relative to more familiar kinds of experience. So you can either: A) Flail around trying to justify why your experience is relevant, wasting valuable time that could be spent on showing of your other skills. Or B) Just put it down as stage experience and address the difference when it become relevant.
Outside of math and the natural sciences "truth" is subjective. Your job when writing a job application is to present the truth that puts you into the best possible light.
If you'll allow me to get technical for a moment, you can think of it as a form of sensegiving: The assessors have a mental model of the world and they are trying to find out how you fit into their mental model. You need to think about what mental model you want them to have and how you can guide them through the process of building that model.

Arnold's Stage experience actually helped with his acting career. Learning how to pose and demonstrate his muscles was an asset in his career and not just a lie on a resume.
Tbf in body building he was known for his charisma and stage presence. He was a natural showman who thrived under the lights.
He was always told at first because of his accent, last name that can’t be pronounced, and his body just being too muscular that he would never be an actor just a joke. I thing we all know pretty much what happen. Beside the one major blemish of the maid incident he is the epitome of the American dream and even though gyms existed Arnold is the reason that is has become what it is today.
Obviously he was just being cheeky, but taking your clothes off for strangers on a stage for several years seems like it actually would help you become an actor in some ways.

So much of what made Arny so successful in life generally is how mentally strong and determined he was. It's one thing to be good at what you do, but to take that and do something entirely different is extremely brave in my opinion.
