Especially people that dislike them, or hate them no matter what. You will never please those people. I like the quote best "Other people's opinions of me are not my business".
Came here to say this.
Most people are too into what that stranger might think of them. Who cares!? I say, if they aren't paying my rent or bills, then their opinions of me don't matter. I have lived by that for a while and it's so freeing!!
The other thing I think people do too much of is being negative. Like, dude... chill. I could show a group a funny little video and some one will immediately say it's fake, it's a set up, it's AI/CGI, it's not realistic of real life, or whatever. And just not laugh. Meanwhile I am like "it's just for giggles, not serious, just a funny. But ok." Or if i am driving with a friend and we get all the reds. Annoying yes. But in my head, it's not a big deal. Just sing and enjoy the ride. While the other person will get bothered by other drivers, timing, how this ruins plans, which turns into anger. Argh!!!
New Year's Day, 1am, the year after everyone predicted, prepared, and took shelter from the Y2K doom, we all went out.
It was busy, crowded, cold, and miserable. Nobody was having fun, so we decided to switch venues. My friends were absolutely miserable to hang out with, party poopers, if you will.
I decided to change that. So, when a train was stopped, packed with people, in the middle of a busy intersection, I ran up, jumped, and slapped my whole body against a window, and nobody inside could see me coming. I was like a fly on a windshield. Slap, right against the train.
I wanted to make my friends laugh, and it worked. I scared the shit out of 20+ people inside the train, and immediately paid the price. I landed on the side of my ankle and broke two bones, not fracture, broke. My friends pissed themselves laughing while I was writhing in pain.
Their laughter, and the look on everyone's face inside the train made it worth it. However, they had to find a shopping cart to push me in so we could get back to my car, about a mile away.
We spent the rest of the night, plus a couple of months laughing about it. We still reminisce about that night, and they, obviously, have a happier memory than I do, but it was fucking epic.
So, chill, relax, and if everything else fails, just fuck yourself up in an epic fashion, and make people happy. JK, don't fuck yourself up intentionally, unless you like pain and hospital drugs.
I feel you here, and I have some experience. Laughter changes everything.
Ffs let’s go and have a coffee, chat. I don’t want to get drunk (and won’t because I don’t drink) to engage with you.
Long term it can create alcoholism (addiction) or fuck you up big time health wise.
I’ve been looked as if I were a kid for not drinking before, almost every time. My god people 😂 I don’t enjoy recreational poison (no offense it’s my take on it)
Totally agree with you. The deeper you dive into studies about what alcohol does to your body, even in moderate amounts, the more you realize how little anyone is being told. If people really knew how alcohol affects them, they wouldn't drink as much, or even at all.
I feel the same and when you say “no thanks , I don’t drink” they say” Howd you quit?” Like everyone does it…I’m sorry but alcohol is a cleaning agent I’m not gonna ingest it, right?!
Most people including myself live in their heads. Far too much thought about past and future events. Worry about something that will most likely never happen. Not living in the present moment will cause serious psychological distress.
Ask strangers for advice or to validate them on social media.
They have no background on this persons morals, values, state of mind, education or life experience. They don’t know anything about them, but they ask them for validation, advice, relationship suggestions, medical advice, financial recommendations, legal information and then act off of the words of a complete stranger to guide them on their path.
I’d seen a post from some guy blaming Reddit for telling him to get divorced. Some people really just blindly follow what they’re told by strangers with very little knowledge on the matter.
Taking offense with inoffensive words that suddenly became an issue because they chose to be offended by them. instead of moving on and not wasting time and brain power and get upset over something trivial.
Think they are irreplaceable at their job. Which leads to them not taking and enjoying the vacation time they have rightfully earned! Corporate America could give 2 shitz. You are, can, and will be replaced before your cold body hits the floor.
Eating without thinking. Drinking alcohol without realizing they've been drinking for X years. Reading nothing worth reading, when they do actually read. Disregarding critical thinking. Moving through life, weeks, months and longer - not truly paying attention.
Show the internet only the bad qualities of their partner spouse girlfriend or boyfriend for sympathy or justifies cheating behavior
Say people are narsistic or on the spectrum based on one post some one wrote without context and believing these people are those things no further questions asked
Engaging in negative self talks, complaining, staying up late, watching tv, procrastinating, working, overeating, driving instead of walking or using a bike, shopping or spending money on unnecessary things, worrying or overthinking, smartphones, and social media… if you look at the question from a more logical standpoint, people just be doing too much in general. Sometimes I wish the people around me could just chill out and maybe not exist. If it was possible to travel through different dimensions, earth would be the last choice on where I would want to be. Unless I was here by myself😂
belive what they are told instead of thinking for themselves
and no, i dont mean in that "but scientists are all lying to us! you ahve to think for yourself!!!" conspiracy theory way, i mean in the actual legitimate way like "there is a god because some old book says so despite no actual evidence its true" kind of thing
attach moral judgement to food choices ie certain foods, ie, red meat bad, kale is good. And way too much time dieting in the belief that only slender bodies are acceptable.
Electronic panhandling: The screen prompts asking for tips. Weird new surcharges on restaurant bills. Podcasters and YouTubers constantly plugging their channels and subscribe buttons.
